"Ooh twinges....could this be it?"

I wish. Think I must be a closet royalist as I am rathrr excited about this impending birth. Anyone want to keep watch with me?

The title Prince of Wales does need to be granted but I can't imagine that it wouldn't be. William has reached his majority and he will be the Heir Apparent. Charles didn't get it until he was 10 because he was still so young when the queen inherited (as was she) and the queen was only ever heiress presumptive.

NonnoMum · 21/07/2013 17:02

Bet she is soooooo hot. Poor lady.

Viviennemary · 21/07/2013 17:10

I agree that the birth probably won't be in the Lindo wing. Maybe she's even had the baby and it will be announced on Monday. I wouldn't blame them for not giving everyone a minute by minute update.

Januarymadness · 21/07/2013 17:42

Noono I thought that. Then I thought...bet they have air con

NonnoMum · 21/07/2013 18:44

Kate looks like a sensible, healthy type. Bet it'll be 12 hours from twinge to first cuddle and she won't even swear...

You go girl...

NonnoMum · 21/07/2013 18:46

I think they should draft in that lovely Old Skool midwife from the first season of OBEM. She'll shoo away all those old male Gynaes. Who wants your grandma in law's lady doctor around when you can have your DH, your DM and an Old Skool midwife...?

NonnoMum · 21/07/2013 18:47

Actually, feel like sending her some fresh pineapple...

MissMarplesBloomers · 21/07/2013 18:55

I'd like to think she has a midwife & not just 2 gynae consultants pacing around with Wills outside deciding everything for her!

I think her Mum is quite capable of speaking up for Kate should the need arise Grin and I imagine William (or his minder) will be guarding her like a lion agaianst all the Buck house officals!!

Sizzlesthedog · 21/07/2013 19:48

I don't think that she will go to the Lindo. No way would William let his wife go past the paps in labour.

I think a home birth chez Middleton, with Carole as birth partner.

Then few days later casually tell the world, after they've had time to have relax together.

Can't imagine that she would feel truly safe at the hospital from the paps.

Snazzyenjoyingsummer · 21/07/2013 20:26

It's a nice idea but I very much doubt it as the anxiety about something going wrong will be very high indeed. She might have a home birth for the next baby if this one arrives in a straightforward manner. I think there will be a plan in place to get her into the Lindo without going past the paps. There are probably wartime underground tunnels or something!

Zynzong · 21/07/2013 20:42

oh now I want to know about these tunnels. how exciting. there's a tunnel in to The Whitehouse. Why not The Lindo?!

Viviennemary · 21/07/2013 21:06

But I'm sure Diana was the first royal to opt for a hospital birth. All other royals weren't born in hospital. Not entirely sure of this. So quite possibly all equipment could be taken to the Middletons.

Sizzlesthedog · 21/07/2013 21:22

Yes, pretty sure Diana was the first to birth in hospital. Breaking the tradition of home births for royal babies.

Snazzyenjoyingsummer · 21/07/2013 22:51

I've just checked (using Wikipedia Wink) and actually St Mary's, ie the Lindo, had been used before Diana's time for the Queen's grandchildren. The Princess Royal, the first of the Queen's kids to give birth, had Peter Phillips there in 1977, and also Zara Phillips, now Tindall.

Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie were both born at the Portland. Viscount Severn and Lady Louise were both born at Frimley Park in Surrey.

The Queen herself had all the children at home: Charles, Andrew and Edward at Buckingham Palace; Anne at Clarence House.

So it's actually Anne who started the use of St Mary's/the Lindo, and of that royal generation being born in hospital.

Viviennemary · 21/07/2013 23:50

I checked it too. Sad or what! But I think what I must have read is that William was the first future monarch to be born in a hospital.

marriedinwhiteagain · 22/07/2013 06:39

Well thunder's rumbling in SW London with and electric storm pending in the air. This should shift it - I reckon there'll be news in 24-48 hours. Let's hope it's all more sanitary and safe than the weekly birth on the White Queen !! Thank goodness things have moved on a bit.

Sizzlesthedog · 22/07/2013 06:52

Thread in chat says she's at the hospital

hurricanewyn · 22/07/2013 06:58

I just came on to see if the chat thread is right.
It just says reports on Twitter that she's at the hospital.

worm77daisy · 22/07/2013 07:35

It is being reported on Radio 5 she is labour.

MissMarplesBloomers · 22/07/2013 07:37

Yep on BBC breaking news!

It's official!

SoupDragon · 22/07/2013 07:37

Good luck to her :)

TheOneWithTheHair · 22/07/2013 07:39

Good luck to her. Fingers crossed it all goes safely. :)

StealthPolarBear · 22/07/2013 07:44

yay! Good luck Kate, hope it's all manageable.
I have just been to tell the children that the princess is having her baby (relates to a conversation I had with 3yo DD about why aren't there any real princesses). DD said "yes". DS said "Muuuuum I'm watching Tom and Jerry"

MissMarplesBloomers · 22/07/2013 07:45

Stealth Grin

DS has his priorities right eh?
