I think it's Smith Missmarple... will and kate smith... Grin

Chubfuddler · 20/07/2013 22:00

I think their surname is Wales.

GoofyIsACow · 20/07/2013 22:04

I think you are right chub

NomDeClavier · 20/07/2013 22:05

He uses Wales, but they could use Cambridge. I imagine they will stick with Wales as he will be PoW and baby will then be Baby Wales but I suspect Harry, when he married/gets a dukedom, will change his surname to whatever he gets.

MissMarplesBloomers · 20/07/2013 22:39

Thanks experts all !! Grin I remembered the bit about the Germanic name, isn't that why Philip chose Mountbatten?

ooh look......

Snazzyenjoyingsummer · 20/07/2013 22:50

Charles, Anne, Andrew and Edward were technically Mountbatten-Windsor. I think it's in my Penguin Royal Wedding (Charles & Di) hardback Smile So William could use that but I believe adopted Wales as his 'working' surname for use in the forces. I wonder what he used at St Andrews?

lurcherlover · 20/07/2013 22:52

Snazzy he has always used Wales - at Eton and uni he was just "William Wales".

Snazzyenjoyingsummer · 20/07/2013 22:58

lurcher ah, thanks - interesting

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 20/07/2013 23:15

That's interesting.

So when Wills eventually becomes King, presumably he will pass Wales onto one of his children - with this new law we could have a Princess of Wales in her own right I suppose which would be an excellent way of breaking the link between that name and Diana.

Will he then become Windsor again?

NomDeClavier · 20/07/2013 23:27

He would technically be Mountbatten-Windsor but he doesn't need a surname. He doesn't even need a passport.

Someone suggest we could have a female Prince of Wales, which given that the Welsh accepted a Prince ruling them and said nothing about a Princess is logical, and certain titles the Monarch holds are male styles regardless of the Monarch's sex.

It would be interesting....

MissMarplesBloomers · 20/07/2013 23:33

Well if its a gel she could do a lot worse than learn from her great- granny!!!

Ponders · 20/07/2013 23:40

Mountbatten is the Anglicisation of Battenberg

'Mountbatten is the family name originally adopted by a branch of the Battenberg family during World War I because of rising anti-German sentiment among the British public. On 14 July 1917, Prince Louis of Battenberg assumed the surname Mountbatten (having rejected an alternative translation, "Battenhill") for himself and his descendants and was created Marquess of Milford Haven. The name is an Anglicisation of the German Battenberg, a small town in Hesse. The title of count of Battenberg, later prince of Battenberg, was granted to a morganatic branch of the House of Hesse-Darmstadt in the mid 19th century.
Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark, the consort of now-Queen Elizabeth II, adopted the surname of Mountbatten from his mother's family in 1947, although he is a member of the House of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg by patrilineal descent.'

she is the current Duke of Lancaster I think?

KittenofDoom · 21/07/2013 00:02

No one automatically gets to be Prince of Wales, it has to be granted. Charles wasn't PoW when he was born, he was about 10 when he got it, I think. So William doesn't automatically become PoW when his pa becomes King (although he will automatically become Duke of Cornwall). Charles may even not grant it, he may think Wills has enough titles already as he will have 2 dukedoms.

ZingWidge · 21/07/2013 12:08

I can imagine the Queen sitting on her suitcases and drumming with her fingers and thinking: "Oh hurry up, will you? One wishes to commence with one's annual vacation!"

I just realized this will be here first great- grand child. is that correct?

MortifiedAdams · 21/07/2013 12:11

Pannalash · 21/07/2013 12:12

Zing, the Queen already has two Great Grandaughters - the daughters of her Grandson Peter Phillips who is Prince Anne's son.

ZingWidge · 21/07/2013 12:23

Do you think we'll be able to keep this thread going long enough or will we get bored? Imagine how bored she is now.

MissMarplesBloomers · 21/07/2013 15:43

I'm hoping she 's been slipped quietly into the Lindo or RBH & is not-so quietly getting on with it & first we'll know is when the announcement goes up on Buck House gates!!!

marriedinwhiteagain · 21/07/2013 15:43

Wouldn't it be great if they announce about tuesday that the royal baby was safely delivered last saturday and mother and baby are doing well. How I would love to see the faces of the camped out press. I don't think she'll have it in the lindo Wing at all and will have the last laugh. And I think it's a boy and that it will be called Philip Edward Michael Charles.

TrinaAbney76 · 21/07/2013 15:45

Ohhh..I am anxiously awaiting the birth of the Royal baby!!! Please, hurry Kate!!! Flowers

MissMarplesBloomers · 21/07/2013 15:56

Married wouldn't it just.....the editors of all these papers & news channels around the world who have paid the journos etc to get there & camp out will be seething!!

Wasn't ti Cherie Blair who managed to slip away & have young Leo & then first we all knew is when they were on the doorstep of No 10?

Not that HRH is anything like that auld witch dear lady. Grin

katydid02 · 21/07/2013 15:58
