Just got in to find Kitty surrounded by her smelliest catnip toys. I think she’s off her face.

@EmpressaurusKitty she does look a bit stoned!

@JaceLancs TopKitten looks adorable with his collar and tracker. I periodically wonder if I should at least put a collar on my two, but I can't imagine either of them going for it. They can't really get beyond the gardens to the street, anyway - well, they could, but they would have to go all the way through a bunch of gardens to the very end of the block and over a high brick wall, and I don't really see what's in it for them. We have no front-facing windows at all, although FC4 does sometimes like to come out front and "help" me with the recycling.

I don't know if I ever "confessed" this, but when FC3 had been with me for only a few days, she somehow got out through the tiniest crack in the bedroom window and leapt into the downstairs garden. It was about midnight and the garden is my neighbours', so I couldn't realistically go out to retrieve her. In any case, it was pitch dark and I could just see her eyes looking at me insolently from the middle of some bushes (as if to say, "see, you can't keep me in there if I want to go out"). The window is quite high up and none of the other cats will do that jump, so it hadn't even occurred to me that she would make a leap for it.

So I go to bed, leaving the window open and planning to go out to search for her at first light. I was already imagining how I'd have to tell the charity that I'd lost their cat...

A few hours later, I wake up and she's sitting nonchalantly on the end of the bed like it never happened. Clearly having made her point, she thought she might as well come back to where the food was..!

Gawd that must have been hairy for you Kirova , any idea how she got back in?
Edited to add: was it a jump or did she climb vegetation, or free-style climb up the wall?

Kirova · 03/11/2026 22:57

She must have got up onto the garden wall and done quite an angled jump up onto the window sill. It's not an easy route, but I've seen her do it a few times since (now that she's adopted and allowed to go out!).

@Pudmyboy ETA, but the jump down itself was just a full on leap. No other cats seem up for trying it, despite the fact that the rampage around the gardens and rooftops freely here. I felt quite bad that she was so keen to flee, but at least she came back 😀

RumNotRun · 03/11/2026 23:48

@WorthySloth one of my previous cats, Pigeon, was falling over, walking into things, and generally acting drunk when I got home from work once. Panicking, I rushed her to the vet where, after much examination, they discovered she had ideopathic vestibular syndrome. The vet said it was very common in cats although no one I know has ever heard of it with a cat. It's a bit similar to labyrinthitis in humans as it's an ear thing that affects balance. It did wear off after a few days although she was left with a slight tilt to her head plus her balance was always slightly off. I hope Wednesday makes a similarly good recovery, but I wanted to share Pigeon's story so you don't worry too much about Wednesday's balance still being off.

I moved the pet cam to the landing so I could see if Boudi made an appearance without having to search my room every time I go up there. She finally appeared at about 8, although didn't make it into my room as something (probably Raven) spooked her. I have just had another alert though and this time it seems that she's gone into my room. I hope she's realised where the litter trays are downstairs and won't be looking for one in my room! I still have no idea where she was hiding, she's managed to go in and out of the hiding space without making any noise. Perhaps she was in the portal that cats seem to have access to. Hopefully this is the start of her feeling confident enough to walk round the house of her own volition rather than just when the others (Raven) scared her.

Very pleased to hear that Wednesday cat has been diagnosed and is hopefully on the way to recovery!

@learieonthewildmoor how are you doing? I was just thinking about Cat 4's tail.

I am slowly recovering from my chronic illness. It’s made processing information difficult so I haven’t been posting. So sad to hear of the passing of so many excellent cats.
Cat Fourandhertail are both continuing to live full and happy lives. I do not need insect spray; Cat Fourandhertail eliminates all winged and crawling invaders.

Oh my learie, she's grown up into a magnificent cat hasn't she!

Glad to hear you're feeling a bit improved. My recommendation is to come here but just look at the thread gallery, and not read the posts 😁

JoanOgden · 04/11/2026 09:21

Great to hear from you, learie, and v glad that you are gradually recovering and that Cat Four is supporting you by providing pest control as well as showing off her magnificent tail.

Pixiedust1234 · 04/11/2026 12:21

Cat4 has certainly turned into an absolutely stunning young ladycat 😍

I've always said to DD, once wild beasties cross my threshold I will remove them by any means necessary and if that means death then so be it. Stay outside and be admired instead.

Breadcat24 · 04/11/2026 12:28

Hope you are OK Learie?
Cat4 has a magnificent tail
Today we are playing with the thing on the string

@Breadcat24 Micia is looking particularly gorgeous there. @learieonthewildmoor cat 4 continues to be most impressive too and @JaceLancs Fergus is doing a marvellous job being Fergus 😻.
Best wishes to everyone here (human or feline) who's poorly at present - with a callout for the lovely Wednesday, and anyone I've forgotten.

Has the kitten found a home Kirova?

Not yet... 😥Seriously, I wish all these people who can't find cats to adopt and end up buying them could find me. She would be a wonderful addition to any household!

Good grief, that is an interesting thread isn't it Broon!
😂
As soon as I saw the word 'tolerate' I thought 'this won't end well' 😂

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 05/11/2026 09:19

That has to be a wind-up post 😆

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 05/11/2026 10:00

And it's gone.

Allergictoironing · 05/11/2026 11:01

Yay great news! Tobias has put back on the 200g he'd lost last vet visit 6 weeks ago 😺.

Vet (not his usual one today) was very pleased with him. Also commented that with FIV cats in colonies it's as much the stress that carries them off as illnesses - usually 1-2 years just from stress. As Tobias has been here almost 4 years and would have had it before going into the rescue, she thinks I'm doing a very good job with him and if the FIV was his only problem he would make it to a normal full life.

Pity about the chronic IBD which could even be a very slow acting cancer!

Breadcat24 · 05/11/2026 11:06

@Allergictoironing Well done Tobias

LostCats2 · 05/11/2026 12:15

Oh well done Allergic and Tobias! What wonderful news. Great eating Tobias and great love and caring Allergic!

It is quite amazing what love and care can do isn't it. My beloved Boone was given weeks - months by the Neurologist and ended up surviving 46 months!

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 05/11/2026 12:32

Great news Tobias 😻.
That's a relief @Allergictoironing .

Kirova · 05/11/2026 12:42

Well done Tobias and @Allergictoironing!

I'm curious what was on that disappeared thread now 😃

CatsonPollock · 05/11/2026 12:56

Excellent news @Allergictoironing Tobias is in the right place. 😻

RumNotRun · 05/11/2026 13:50

Well done Tobias and Allergic, that's the kind of news we want on this new thread!

I feel like David Attenborough with my pet cam. I keep spotting a rare glimpse of Boudi as she walks past.

Kirova · 05/11/2026 14:31

I have a question for the wise cat people of this thread: how much truth do you attach to the idea that you should have one litter tray per cat, plus an extra one?

I currently have 3 litter trays (2 large and 1 smaller tray) but they are rarely used. On the rare occasion they do, both of them go in the same one.

If the per cat plus extra litter tray requirement is not as essential as all that, I'd be much more open to a third cat. Nothing against the litter trays, but I have a finite number of empty room corners in which to put them...
