No point looking for cat lost for 24 hours now is there?

Indoor cat got out last night. Have looked everywhere for her. Put posts out on the local fb group, nobody has seen her, she was on my ring doorbell this morning and has now disappeared. There’s no point continuing to look any more is there as she’s obviously gone. 😢. She’s got out a couple of times before and always found her way back but this time I just know she’s gone. You know when you know that kind of thing?

24 hrs is no time for a cat. Definitely keep looking,

Of course you continue looking for her. Go outside at dusk and dawn and let her hear your voice.

Put something that smells of you outside. Vacuum cleaner dust, some worn socks etc. as well as calling and taking food out. It should help her find her way home.

I’m on a local Facebook missing cat group and someone has just found a cat - it’s been reunited with its owner now after going missing in April!

So yes one day not nearly enough - yours may be trapped in a shed or house somewhere, or just losing low until she feels safe enough to venture out home.

Def keep searching. I've had cats go missing for 3 days before and then found them. One was in a neighbours garage.

Absolutely rubbish. I am sure they will come back. Can you patrol with a bag of dreamies to shake?

Some cats take weeks to turn back up again. Keep looking.
Have you gone door to door with your nearest neighbours? Have you walked round with food or treats? Checked all possible garages and sheds and bushes??
Feel you’ve given up rather quickly!

Oh definitely keep looking one of mine disappeared off the face of the earth for 6 weeks but we got him back. Fingers crossed for you and puss. It’s horrible

We once found our cat after a week. She ran off into a field. Thankfully it was rural so we weren’t really worried about cars, just wildlife. She showed up at the house bedraggled, but ultimately fine.

24 hours is nothing at all. I promise don't lose hope!

Keep looking.
You need to do some research on what to do!
Post leaflets through lots of houses asking them to check their garages and sheds and keep an eye out.
Put leaflets up on lampposts.
Post on more than one local facebook group.
Facebook will probably have other pages for lost cats and may have a group that will help you.

She doesn’t respond to dreamies, in fact she’s the ultimate picky cat, the other one will eat sardines and salmon and pretty much anything, which stood her in good stead when she had FIP and needed feeding back up six times a day. This one loves her food now, they’re on Katkin, but it took forever to find one she’d eat. None of the houses round here have garages. I’ve called round all the vets to see if she’s been brought in, she’s chipped but thought I’d check anyway. Been round the neighbours and put a picture up on the local fb group. Realistically there’s nothing more I can do now anyway 😢. This is why I don’t like outdoor cats, they invariably go bloody missing and meet with some horrible end.

My cat was missing for four days before someone spotted her hiding up a very tall tree.

My friends cat got out and was lost for 40 hours. He was hiding in a garage too scared to respond to calls, he was finally found safe.

It's very early to jump to conclusions. Three or four days at least is within the reasonable timeframe.

MIL's mostly-indoor cat once absconded for over a week.

Far too early. One of my cats went missing for 3 weeks. Just ambled in like nothing happened.

My old cat who was pretty much surgically attached to me disappeared one evening. He turned up 8 days later screaming at the front door. Had a dislocated hip and lost about a kg in weight and still have no idea what happened
he refused to go out for weeks and cried if I opened a window after that

Have you actually put her bedding and litter tray outside so she can pick up the scent?

No! Keep going. Ours was missing for a week and DH managed to get her back at 1am by calling her name quietly with some treats. She’s 12 and we think she’d got confused about where our house was (huge garden, lived there less than a year). Neighbour picked her up on their Ring after a few days so we knew she was still around. Don’t give up!

Don't be daft, 24 hrs is nothing for a cat. Have you been and knocked at your neighbours or done posters? It's eturely possible something has spooked her and she has run in a garage or shed.

My girl went missing for 13 days, i searched everyday at dusk, driving around calling her name.

Multiple fb posts, and she was apotted miles from home.

If she's an indoor cat then she's probably just enjoying a bit of freedom.

Maybe if you let them out regularly they wouldn't have to run off and would be home for dinner. Your problem is indoor cats not outdoor ones.

This is not advised for indoor cats as it alerts others in the area that there is a new cat in their territory. Something that smells like you, yes, like a pp said, vacuum fluff or similar but not the litter tray or her bedding.
Our old boy got out at 15 and was too scared to respond to us calling him, he was only a street away when he was found but hiding under a bush that we’d walked past and checked at least 4 times, we had to reach in and drag him out as he didn’t come to us when called.

24 hours is absolutely nothing for a cat. One if mine was gone for a week once. The fact that you’ve seen her on the ring camera today is really positive, she obviously knows where the house is and isn’t totally lost. What’s also positive is that you haven’t seen any evidence of roadkill locally nor had a call from the vets. So she’s not been run over, knows where the house is, and is still local. If she’s indoor only she’s probably enjoying the freedom and will come back when she’s done with her adventure.
