No point looking for cat lost for 24 hours now is there?

Indoor cat got out last night. Have looked everywhere for her. Put posts out on the local fb group, nobody has seen her, she was on my ring doorbell this morning and has now disappeared. There’s no point continuing to look any more is there as she’s obviously gone. 😢. She’s got out a couple of times before and always found her way back but this time I just know she’s gone. You know when you know that kind of thing?

I really don’t think so. Everyone I know with cats has a story of that time they went off for an extended jolly. Remember that they are usually outdoor animals that go out daily and nearly always come home. So why wouldn’t she? If you leave the door open she’ll probably come back at some point and give you a shock by reappearing suddenly like nothing has happened. Also if she had been run over you’d have seen it walking the streets. Even if someone had picked her up, it would be to a vet who would have scanned her chip and called you, because the council don’t come out that quickly for roadkill, and from sad experience it actually stains the tarmac for quite some time afterwards. Most likely she’s stuck in a neighbours shed or very nearby but nervously hiding in a bush or something. I know it’s horrible but stay positive. Put up posters and get on all the local groups. Go out tomorrow at dawn and again at dusk, when cats are often at their most active, and search really throughly. Take a torch to shine in bushes. Good luck.

One cat disappeared for exactly 7 days. My guess is someone locked her in their house/shed, went on holiday and then came home and whoosh. Another cat went for 3 days, and another was found 12 hours later after someone who shall remain nameless locked them in our garage...
Don't give up yet, cats are clever, quick and good at hiding.

No time at all. I had an indoor cat that went missing. She turned up at a vets around 3 weeks later, someone had found her and took her there.

our little boy who never wandered from the garden, went missing for two weeks, we spent the whole time calling him, walking round all the local roads at dawn and dusk, shaking dreamies, I thought we had lost him forever,

he turned up two weeks to the day and walked in like nothing had happened
he had lost weight and was very clingy for a bit but all back to normal now

Hang a sheet or blanket ( or something) from where the cat often sleeps in the garden. It's like a homing beacon for them.

Keep looking, I found someone’s lost dog recently that had been missing for 48 hours

I mean most people don't give up on their outdoor cats when they're only missing a short while. Cats can sulk under a bed for weeks if you change the furniture, I can imagine an indoor cat would still be well and truly in the hiding phase after being out for only 24hrs. In that time, how many people can you have possibly asked to help look? They won't have even had a chance to try yet.

My friends cat just returned home after 5 days away. My mums cat was found after being missing for 2 years.

My daughter’s cat was awol for a week before a neighbour spotted him. It’s early days.

I found mine after 9 days missing. He wasn’t far away but off his territory

Check area vets again in a couple of days, or drop off a missing poster to them?

Cats, even indoor cats, have come home after days, weeks, months! Our local missing pet fb page always has stories of such happenings. Ask on fb for people to check their sheds in case she wandered in and someone shut the door.

My indoor ragdoll escapee turned up ten days later. He had moved into the garden of a house four streets away as they had gone on holiday, he wasn't spotted until they came back from Bali.. He was stealing their cat's food and pooping in their cat's tray, the cat sitter was baffled by how much poo was in the box. 😀We thought it was hilarious that even out in the wild he was too posh to poo! So don't give up. Fluffy was found using internet, posters and a humane trap (which he ignored). And consider keeping your cats indoors in future, its much safer for them.

My cat did the same. Don't give up its just been One day.

My cat has gone missing for weeks at a time several times, he always finds his way back, my cat when i was younger went missing for 6 months (later found out my parents had sold her to someone who lived miles away) was like bloody homeward bound 😂

We found a stray cat in the garden a few years back, she was so skinnny we could feel every bone in her spine, the vet said she was very old and had a heart murmur. We asked around the neighbourhood and local FB sites and put posters up. Ten days later a teary man called me "I believe you found our cat". Turns out she was 21 years old, besides the heart murmur she also had a thyroid issue and wonky hips and lived almost three miles from us and by the time we found her in the garden she'd already been missing for two weeks.
24 hours is nothing when it comes to cats.

Sorry- you don’t know things like that. Cats are famous for turning up as if nothing had happened. (Whether you look for them or not!)

DD's cat went missing for 2 months after she moved into her own house. We put leaflets through doors, posters on lamp posts in a wide radius and posts on every Facebook page we possibly could. We went out searching every single day and night for the whole 8 weeks and would have kept going for as long as it took. We responded to every message and call we had that might possibly have been him even if the area seemed too far away. We never would have given up on him. He was found because a lovely man saw a poster and then realised that our cat had been filmed by his doorbell camera.

Mu indoor cat got out a couple of years ago. Legged it chasing another cat and was gone in a blink of an eye.

We saw her go went out immediately and couldn't see her she didn't come when called.
Multiple walks looking for her, social media posts, no sign of her. Started to loose hope after night 1.

Night 3 at silly time in the morning heard a miowing and there she was at the front door.

I would recommend putting a used litter tray out. We were advised to do this apparently smelly.is stronger and more specific than home to a cat than food/ treats.

Our cat went missing for 3 days and we had posters up. Our elderly neighbour eventually told us that she was up his tall tree in the back of his large garden. He didn’t think to mention it earlier as he thought if she got herself up there she could get herself down

Our cat was missing for 5 weeks. We got her back by putting up posters locally. Of course you haven’t done everything you could. It would be very easy for an indoor cat to wander too far and lose the way back.

My dad's indoor car got out last year and was gone for three nights. He continued to hang clothes on their washing line they'd taken off that day. Kept her litter tray out. Called her late at night and early in the morning and put her bed and a bowl of fresh food in the shed and woke up one morning and she was in there.
