Even with air con in our living room my poor girl is feeling it today.

How are your cats all doing in this heat?

Yes. I know I need to hoover. Not doing it til it cools down 😆

What a gorgeous floof!

Mine are coping well. They're being sensible and staying inside or in the shade, though they universally will not sit in front of a fan.

Blackcatahotcat · 25/06/2026 13:24

Your cat is huge! My boy has gone to find some shade but today we have a breeze so it’s cooler x

Sparrowsandbudgies · 25/06/2026 13:24

Aw what a lovely looking cat ❤️

Gary is lounging across the top of the stairs because I think it gets a good breeze from all the rooms!

Mine is flaked out on the floor of my office and has been since about 9am. It's reasonably cool and dark in here and I have a fan on. She doesn't like having a fan blowing on her, but she likes to benefit from its cooling, so she's placed herself beneath it and to one side. But to answer your question, she's struggling a bit. She's only eating when it's cool and otherwise she's moving as little as possible 🙁

murasaki · 25/06/2026 13:27

When I went to bed last night I found small cat in the bath. To the best of my knowledge she's never been in the bathroom in the 19 years we've lived here. But smart thinking, the window was open and it was cool. Big cat was on a windowsill where it was cracked open a little bit just outside the bathroom.

God knows where they are today, I've not seen them since I put the biscuits down....

LadyFlumpalot · 25/06/2026 13:28

My other one has decided that melting into the table is a sensible option!

Mine are missing. They disappear during the day and pop up about 5pm. Pretty sure they are in bushes somewhere not far away.I tried to keep them in yesterday but one was desperate to go out all day and made his escape through a window.

Shedmistress · 25/06/2026 13:31

Mine are all refusing to come indoors, to be fair only 2 come indoors anyway but even they are having their food and going straight out.

The others are keeping low profiles and melting into the terrace and one even batted an ice cube about for 5 seconds. I am making up mousse with a little additional water for any of them that come to the back door.

I'm also cooling down the terrace and any grass in the shade using the hose and water from the well so that when they do sleep on the grass, it is hopefully cooler than before I dampened it down.

We live abroad and our cat when she goes out and comes back in as if she is feeling hot goes on a cool mat we put it in the fridge - She lies on that cools down and then goes to any spot in the house ( Ok we do have AC....) She has been known to lie on a damp towel as well ( daughter left on floor !!). She doesnt scratch the mat either !

EnjoyingTheArmoire · 25/06/2026 13:32

Mine are struggling Sad

One was happy to walk around yesterday wearing a wet tea towel as a cloak, but they are generally unco-operative with my attempts to cool them down.

We're in the red zone so I feel like I'm counting down the hours until I can open the windows and cool us down properly.

Alittlebitofthebauble · 25/06/2026 13:32

Mine is lying next to his litter tray in front of the fan relaxing. Makes a change from using it as a bed... He has an actual soft, comfy cat bed, but much prefers the gritty litter to lay on...!

Alittlebitofthebauble · 25/06/2026 13:33

Not sure why it won't show. It is not at all sensitive.

We are in the red zone too. It’s horrendous, counting down the hours til this thunderstorm is supposed to appear!

I love a Big Floof but do feel sorry for them in this weather... 😻

My six month-old siblings were idiot-chasing each other around in the breeze all morning, but have run out of steam now as it 'feels like 36c'. I keep googling 'how to keep your cat cool', but we have lots of shrubs and a shady pond so they seem to be mostly taking care of themselves and hanging out there.

It's their first summer, bless them, they're just figuring all this out... 😍

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 25/06/2026 13:39

Mine has positioned herself in the down draft of an AC unit.

SabreIsMyFave · 25/06/2026 13:40

Oh the poor baby, she's soooo hot! ☀ What a great pic. Gorgeous cat! 😍

Some other lovely felines on here too. Smile

Doppe · 25/06/2026 13:41

I'm a horse girl but I have been looking after a friend's 3 cats. I usually would defend horses to the nth degree but I cannot deny that cats are much smarter - they find the shade instantly and cool surfaces to lie on and just chill.

Isobel201 · 25/06/2026 13:42

Melting into the floor at the moment, she's been sleeping underneath my bed or going outside in the shade. My local vets say keep them in, but tbh I'm just letting her do what she wants to do. Downstairs is cooler anyway, so she has got a cooler room to sleep in (three storey house).

TeaandHobnobs · 25/06/2026 13:46

One of mine insists on sprawling across the inside windowsill - yes I imagine the terracotta tiles are cooling, but given I’ve shut the curtains to keep the heat out, I’d have thought it would be very warm in that space!
The other keeps going under my bed, also not the coolest place to be.

Big boy is being sensible (very unlike him) and lying on the cool (ish) hard floor. Small girl is not so sensible, she's lying on the bottom rung of her carpeted cat tree by the back door. Every time I move her into a cooler part of the house she goes back.

My poor black kitty was panting this morning! She was so hot. The old girl was doing her bear rug impression. There are bowls of water all over the house for them.

At least there's a little bit of a breeze today. I hope my furry lunatics are ok.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 25/06/2026 14:26

It’s nowhere near as hot here, so business as usual for this fella, although he is currently tucked up in an ancient cat bed I shoved out of the way under the utility room sink ages ago and he’s adopted as an afternoon nap spot.
