Both of my cats are extremely fussy with food but both will wolf down various flies/insects if they catch them (neither are very good hunters). I could understand them enjoying a juicy rodent or bird if they ever caught one, but flies etc don’t seem particularly tasty!

My cats LOVE flies and have done since teeny kittens. They chase them round like lunatics bouncing off windowsills etc.

My latest acquisition has been a very steep learning curve. We too have to have a food safe (oven or microwave depending on state of oven). All cooking dishes must be away or they will be licked. Nerf bullets have also been consumed. He will shred old butter wrappers (even if they’ve been washed). Nabbed a packet of Sainsburys’ granola squares and pretty sure he scarfed an entire one before I caught him, has stolen toast from someone who backs onto our garden. Total nightmare! He’s also very pretty, so is forgiven a lot but the food drive is something else. (I would add a photo but apparently ones from iPhone are no longer an acceptable format!! 🤷🏻‍♀️).

Oirs are rescues and have broken into a packet of scones and packet of flatbreads. Like others, food is put to cool in the microwave/second oven - I can't leave anything out.

Our old boy (RIP) loved to chew through a cable. I'm surprised he wasn't electrocuted.

My cat once licked half the frosting off a home-made chocolate log cake which I’d put on a serving plate ready for Christmas dinner, on a shelf she definitely couldn’t get to.

I have never known a cat like chocolate as much as her!

She also really likes Walkers crisps.

Don't want to spoil kitties treat but chocolate is highly toxic to cats

My current cat used to go to other people’s houses (not when she lived with me), she made off with a joint of lamb the neighbours had cooked. The husband wasn’t pleased and his wife mentioned it to me. My old cats also used to take meat and fish off the bbq. When the food was hot.

@Judystilldreamsofhorses that pic is amazing! You can just see your cat plotting! 😂

He’s the very definition of a loveable rogue 🐈

Popdropper · 23/05/2026 14:23

Mine loves lemon drizzle cake but only if I've made it myself Grin

mondaytosunday · 23/05/2026 14:25

most cats I’ve had like to eat tinsel. I get it out of their mouths if I catch them but occasionally see it coming out the other end 😬

Beachtastic · 23/05/2026 14:32

Had a cat that used to love spaghetti, sucking in each strand slowly so it disappeared into her mouth like an endless worm. Maybe that's what she thought it was.

TroysMammy · 23/05/2026 21:42

Butter chicken. He couldn't deny it as being mostly white he had orange chops.

I’ve got one that is a master thief and loves bread, I had to buy a new bread bin because he worked out how to open the bread bin, he’s also been known to steal sandwiches from the worktop while packed lunches are being made. The other cat has a plastic addiction, likes to eat hair (I once had to pull a small clump of dd’s waist length hair out of his bottom when he ran out of his litter tray with it trailing from him 🤮), but weirdest of all is red roses. I have a vase that I usually have roses in, any other colour he leaves alone, but if I buy red roses, he pulls them out of the vase and eats the heads but never the stems and leaves

For those of you with master thief cats and ones that steal food have they always been this way? Mine is a rescue and supposedly 12 although seems younger. As far as we know he’s been in one home since birth, prior to us and obviously much loved as they all have great temperaments, but have no idea what previous food habits were like or if some food instability may have occurred in the last year or so prior to the shelter. But totally food obsessed. They start demanding dinner 3 hours before it’s due!
Sorry switching between he and they as we acquired a family of three, mum isn’t too bothered beyond its dinner time feed me but the boys are pretty obsessive, both will hunt the counters, but one gets aggressive at meal times and is constantly on the look out for possible food opportunities.

Caterpillars! We didn’t know until she yakked it up on the carpet (of course) & we had to get it checked out at the vet to make sure she hadn’t poisoned herself 🐛😫

UncannyToad · Yesterday 11:03

Late cat loved Marmite. And mice.
Newcomer 1 eats plastic, and tries to mug me for absolutely anything I’m eating. Had to pull plastic from his butt, never had that kind of idiot before!

Newcomer 2 stuck her head in and took a mouthful of my Scotch one night. Much regret (her) and terror (me). She’s been well behaved since.

Thai green curry. Yogurt. Cake. Sausages. Spiders. Moths. I have 5 and they all have their little dietary foibles.

Our microwave is also the Cat Safe.

AndStand · Yesterday 19:31

Melons. All sorts apart from watermelon.

BaronessBomburst · Yesterday 19:36

I had a cat that would go loopy over pistachio nuts.

7catsisnotenough · Yesterday 19:43

Previous cat - olive bread and became incredibly stroppy and hissy when I dared to try to retrieve it (not to eat, I was worried it would make him ill as the loaf was bigger than he was 🤣)
Current cats have eaten homemade (completely vegetarian) lentil soup....?!

tillytoodles1 · Yesterday 19:49

A long piece of tinsel. I saw a bit by his tail and pulled it off, only for the cat to jump a foot into the air as the rest came out of his bum.

PencilsInSpace · Yesterday 19:56

Ancient cat had a thing for blueberry muffins and the charred stalks off roasted peppers. Current cat has far more conventional tastes which is good because she seems to be allergic to almost everything. I've known a few cats who go nuts for potato peelings.

Rozendantz · Yesterday 20:02

My ginger boy chewed through a glow stick, which terrified me when I saw him with the liquid all over his face! I had to take him into a dark bathroom to see how much his mouth was glowing to try to figure out how much he'd swallowed.

He was fine. Still deranged though...

Greenandyellowday · Yesterday 21:11

Big spiders, the legs poking out of his mouth, chomping with gusto, and a big 😀 on his face.

Clockolli · Yesterday 21:18

Needle and thread - saw it go down. When it came out the needle was in one poo, and another poo followed joined to it by the thread 🤢

CrikeyMajikey · Yesterday 21:19

Pringles
chips
croissant
watermelon
spiderplant leaves

CoolEmptySilence · Yesterday 21:36

Rubber bands.

I don't know if it's the smell of them or that they look a bit like mouse tails but I can't leave one lying around or our lovely girl will have it. After the first one (which thankfully passed through without incident) I put up a notice for the postmen who used to frequently drop them on our drive.

My vet friend says a taste for them is quite common in cats and she's done several operations to untangle and extract them from cat guts.
