Cat has decided to sleep on my bed - READ OP'S UPDATE BEFORE RESPONDING *Edited by MNHQ*

I have an eleven year old female, who has never really been particularly friendly, and has never, ever slept on my bed….or even jumped on the bed wanting attention or when I’m offering dreamies. Never..in eleven years…until the day before yesterday.

She spent the day on my bed. I even took photos to send to my family it was so unusual. Evening on the couch as normal. Then the night, back on my bed.

Yesterday, same again. This morning she woke DH up at 5:30 by sleeping on his chest! Right now she’s cuddled close to me in the bed.

She doesn’t seem unwell. It’s just so bizarre I don’t quite know what to make of it.

Anyone got any ideas?

Behavioural changes often are a sign that something isn’t right. When is she next due a check up with the vet?

I'd get her to the vet for a check-up. Could be in pain. Or have that animal sense of something wrong.

I'm so sorry. That's really sad.
She gave you a lovely goodbye.
Hugs for you.

MardyMillylala · 29/01/2026 13:18

Sincerest apologies, I replied without seeing your very sad update 😢. If its any comfort she'll have known she was loved & chose to seek comfort with you.

Sending many condolences. How very moving that she wanted to be as close to you as possible in her last few days. She clearly knew how very loved she was. All best wishes to you, OP.

@mumsandaunties if you report your thread to MNHQ they’d add a note to the title asking people to read updates before posting - only if you think that would help you of course.

I was interested in what the vet said about her cat.

Maybe she doesn’t want to tell you.
Maybe she is dealing with her and her family’s grief.
You have made it very clear you want more information. Please leave it now.

I hope you are never in a position of posting bad news here and having someone pester you for news.

Ubugly · 29/01/2026 21:17

So sorry OP. My cat did similar although different. She was super grumpy to and loved attacking me and NEVER sat on my lap until randomly one day after 15 odd years. I cant tell you how happy that made me then she died about 6 months later I think. She had kidney failure.

Thank you all for the kind wishes. She was ok right up until the last.

On Sunday she was chasing a laser pointer around as I was measuring for carpet. On Tuesday she sat on the mantelpiece watching my daughter running on the treadmill, like a personal trainer.

She didn’t go curl up someplace to die. I think she was on her way outside, as when i found her she was right in the middle of the floor.. head towards the door with the cat flap. It must have been so sudden. I’m glad of that.
