Missing Cat - Any Happy Outcomes?

My cat has been missing for 8 days now. He's the sweetest and gentlest fella. We've done the FB threads, knocking on neighbours, flyering. Going to deliver some more today. Walked around calling. Looked for his body on main roads. Etc. I know there are a lot of threads on this topic. I'm just feeling so sad and would love to hear positive stories. We lost a cat on the road a couple of years ago and this actually feels worse. Thanks for listening.

Found her trapped in a drawer under my son's bed. After walking round the block calling. Very relieved. Back down to only 1 cat missing.

And yes it's weird @xSideshowAuntSallyXx if it's a woman. I couldn't tell. You'd imagine it would be stupid teenage boys wouldn't you. Sorry about your experience. It really brings out the best and the worst in some people. I'm sure I read on one thread that someone called pretending to be Chinese (??) and saying they had eaten the missing cat. Wtaf

More cat tax. Just because I'm so relieved she hadn't run off!

Awww she is beautiful @Springroll89❤️❤️❤️

So sorry about the prank calls thats awful.

Also what a bizarre situation with the other cat. Sounds like the lady who has been feeding that cat likes it being around without her having to take full responsibility for him!

Just had someone call up twice on 2 different numbers and meow at me. There are no words

Maybe overreacting, but I hope there is a special place in hell for people who delight in this sort of torment.🤬

Springroll89 · 03/09/2025 07:22

@takingcareofme2023 any sign of your cat? Still nothing here. It's been 2 weeks and 2 days. I put our unwashed bedding and clothes on the line yesterday hoping that might make a difference 😕

I also called about a dozen vets in the area. A lot of them did tell me positive things. So still just hoping he'll appear.

Ours went missing in July, a week after our other cat got hit by a car. One night in November, we were in the kitchen and he turned up at the door! Perfectly fine. No idea where he had been!

YouOughtToSeeADoctorAboutThat · 03/09/2025 07:35

My son's cat went missing for 3 weeks. He'd made flyers to distribute round a 1 mile radius, put them through doors, on lampposts, in shops. Rang about 8 vets, the council, PDSA, RSPCA, put advertisements in the local newspaper.

The cat turned up, thin and hungry. It had been shut in the shed of the local primary school.

Freysimo · 03/09/2025 07:46

Our cat went missing for five days once. He was in a neighbour's house. They were on holiday but he had followed in a relative who was feeding their fish and then was unable to escape. Any chance you have a neighbour who has recently gone away?

I'd had a feeling he wasn't far and had gone round our close calling his name and heard him crying.

Good luck, OP.

Springroll89 · 03/09/2025 13:05

Thanks for the stories. It's my dream that he'll just turn up.

I've asked all the neighbours but not everyone answers. I can't just break in can I...?

Our immediate neighbours have gone away for a long time but I have their key and have been in to check a couple of times. I even sheepishly went upstairs to call him. They left before he disappeared though and are big cat lovers. They know to secure the place so no cat can get in. I will check again though.

@takingcareofme2023 I really hope you've had some positive news x

I'm sorry @takingcareofme2023 😔Every other person I meet has a cat returning after a long time story. Come on God/the universe/the kitten spirit in the sky. Bring them home!!

I haven’t RTFT but I just want to say I’m thinking of you @Springroll89 . My cat went missing for 4 days, and it would’ve been forever if I hadn’t found her.

What I’d say is you know your cat. What are they likely to have done? Are they a wanderer, are they likely to have found another home etc? I felt that my cat was nearby, and she was. She’s a very anxious girl who had never ventured out of our garden before. She had holed herself up in a garden across the road - I suspect she sneaked out and got spooked by a car or a dog and just ran to safety. She came out when she heard me calling.

Please don’t give up x

Springroll89 · 03/09/2025 13:26

Thanks @ForMerryMauveDreamer Yeah. Even 4 days felt like forever. One day did tbh.

He's a friendly cat, but so affectionate. When he was a kitten he woke me up every morning at 2 am licking my face. He stopped doing that eventually but was still mega affectionate and liked a cuddle and a cat nap with me most days. Plus v affectionate with our other cats.

I just don't see him running off to another house. I feel he's either trapped (I can't bear to think about that), stolen, hit by a car and just not been found/hiding as injured or got into a delivery van. He's never gone off before.

I really hope it is just that at nearly 2 he's suddenly decided he wants to be a wanderer when he never was previously.

Thanks for the support x

I keeping checking this thread in the hope there's some good new. Thinking of you and hoping your cat turns up.

Springroll89 · 09/09/2025 20:45

Thanks @snowgirl1 I did have a call from a kind gent earlier who doesn't live very far away from us and who thought he saw him in his garden. Couldn't see the cat when I went round. But it always gives me hope. And I've met so many wonderful people who've kept a flyer on their fridge for weeks just in case they can help someone they've never met x

My cat Ellie went missing for nearly 6 weeks 2 years ago. She was 6 at the time and never been a wanderer but we think she was scared by foxes fighting and ran off and got lost.

We tried everything to find her, she's always been a plump girl but one night at 3 am we heard loud meowing and she walked in skinny and wet but otherwise unharmed. We saw nothing of her all that time and neither did anyone else nearby.

We also had a scare with Delta our nearly 2 year old boy who got out a window at the front of the house in the early hours of the morning and went missing for 3 days.

He was only used to our back garden but luckily he loves humans (unlike Ellie who's more nervy) and howled in one of the neighbours gardens till he was found.

They only go in the back garden now, think they both had a scare.

I hope your cat and all the missing ones come home soon safely.

No news here either. Heartbreaking. A lot of cats with similar markings around so have had a lot of sightings but not her. Like you, been heartened by number of kind people ringing, messaging and keeping an eye out. Sending love. It's so hard. Miss her so much. Xxxxx

Springroll89 · 10/09/2025 14:09

Sorry @takingcareofme2023 fingers and toes crossed. Hope we get news soon. Thanks for your stories @LittleMissLateForWorkAgain

Oh it's so tough waiting for them to come back!
Got everything crossed for a safe (and soon) return of the wanderers 😿😿😿😿

GRCP · 11/09/2025 19:35

My brother’s cat crawled into the back of a lorry or van and ended up over 50 miles away. 3 months later he got a phone call from the vets who had found his microchip. If he’s chipped, he’ll find his way home.

siliconcover · 11/09/2025 20:03

It was a long time ago (like, 40 years ago!) but we had an unusually beautiful cat who went missing for a year. We found her 4 miles away. She had been looked after. We also had a dog who went missing & was found at the GPO hub 12m away (he'd hopped into a postman the daft bugger) Fingers crossed for your lovely mog's return x

Liltzero · 11/09/2025 20:08

Dcat was missing for 7 weeks, 5 years ago. TBH I’d given up hope then I got a call from somebody who’d seen her in their garden and recognised her from a poster.

AllyC · 11/09/2025 22:43

Ah I feel for you all. My cat Milo went missing for 6 weeks. We thought he was gone but he walked in the cat flap one morning very skinny and weak but alive. We think he got locked into an Air B&B up the field from us as he was clean and didn’t smell or anything so they do come back. Are there any houses in your area used for Air B&B that are empty for periods of time. I really really wish all the missing cats manage to get home. I’ll never forget how devastating the experience was. I have my fingers and toes crossed for you.

GetToHeaven · 11/09/2025 23:10

My neighbour’s cat went missing for months (October to March) and turned up on the other side of town, skinny but otherwise unscathed.
