I have lost my cat inside the house

I am working from home and my cat was sleeping on the bed, the sun was shining through the window and she was lay in a patch of sun. I left her there while I put a wash on and ate some food. I came back upstairs and she wasn’t on the bed anymore. I assumed she had to just moved to one of her other spots, but when I eventually got up to look for her I couldn’t find her. I have looked around everywhere 3 times now. Shouting her name, shaking her food, looking inside the wardrobes and under the couches etc. I just have no idea where she is! It has been nearly 3 hours I am so confused

I knew it! These cats cause chaos but we love them!
thanks so much for updating us, I’ve been thinking of you both xx

WonderingWanda · 14/05/2025 18:38

Glad she has reappeared. Mine disappeared under the decking once so we had to block up all the entry points. Mostly he just likes to get right under my feet or sprawl across whichever seat I might want to sit on or desk I want to work at! He's never been one for hiding.

I am glad your cat turned up OP and luckily silly cat didn't go far into the space or it could have been a (very costly) disaster.

My black cat likes the top of the TIVO box inside the TV unit and it took me a while to work out that she was 'disappearing' there. Very hard to see.

I found her! I walked upstairs and she was suddenly just on the landing but she was covered in fluff. Someone on here has commented asking me if she could be under the floorboards…. Actually we have recently ripped the carpet up in the bedroom as we are getting a new one fitted and there is a hole in the floor. But I wouldn’t have thought she could fit in it. If I knew she was in there I would have had a breakdown thinking she was stuck so if that’s where she was I’m glad I didn’t know… I have now covered the hole with something so she can’t get back in

Edited

Glad you have found her. ☺️

One of our old cats used to go inside pillow cases on the bed. I’d never have known as once he was in, you couldn’t see, but I saw him go in one day and so from then on knew to check there if I couldn’t find him.

MirandaWest · 14/05/2025 18:58

Glad she appeared 😊

One of ours would disappear/sleep in unusual places/hide when we took him away to my parents.

Underneath a fridge, amongst its inner workings another time on top of some doors resting on the rafters of a garage.

Another cat sneaked up into our loft whilst the ladder was down. We went away for the weekend and only found him on our return. Hungry but fine.

Couple of years ago we stayed at my BILs house and looked after his cats while they went away. We lost the cat for a full day, panic set in (they didn't go outside), and we eventually had to phone his brother and tell him. He told us to check on top the wardrobe and there he was lol

OnTheBoardwalk · 14/05/2025 20:35

glad You found her @Nootellaontoast you need to pay the cat tax now though

and I’m sorry but I have now covered the hole with something so she can’t get back in. That made me really laugh, as if!

just make sure you check, check and check again before you put the carpet down 😁

That's great she decided to put you out of your misery so quickly - for future reference, if you can get your hand into something, a cat's head will fit into it. And smaller, what with them being pointy and twisty/made mostly of liquid underneath the fluff...

outforawalkb · 14/05/2025 22:21

They’re like little ghosts sometimes
I have a not my cat and he just appears in my house. Sometimes I think he’s left and he appears yawning 3hrs later and makes me shriek

This is her right now. I am glad she has chosen under the covers instead of under the floorboards tonight 😆

Oh what a pretty darling.

As for squeezing down the hole in the floorboards - that is just typical cat!

Ah look at that face! Absolutely fabulous.

I look forward to all your many tales on the litter tray over the next many years

dustydvd · 14/05/2025 22:48

Under the bath. That’s where ours goes(tiny gap between bath panel and wall!)

AddictedToBooks · 14/05/2025 17:13

One of my cats did this once - he's crawled behind a partially open drawer underneath the bed and was in the bed base.

Yes, my cat did this too, you couldn’t see him at all, even with the drawers full pulled open. Why do cats do this? I guess they like small spaces.

Hollyhobbi · 14/05/2025 23:43

Our little Princess. When she was a kitten she used to get in the drawers of the dresser in the sitting room through a tiny gap. First time she did it, it took us ages to find her!

She doesn't look sorry at all :)

thequeenoftarts · 15/05/2025 08:22

Wee devil lol, so glad she is ok tho

nhsmanagersanonymous · 15/05/2025 11:22

We lost ours in a drawer too. And she got shut in the neighbours shed overnight. Neighbour adores her and was devastated when she checked in response to my anxious text and madam sauntered out.

Tarkan · 15/05/2025 11:40

The first time I was cat sitting for a friend I texted her in a total panic as one of her cats had totally vanished. Both indoor cats and at the time they were in a block of flats with loads of internal fire doors between their door and the exit so logically I knew he couldn’t have got out but I just couldn’t find him.

It turned out that he found if he went round the back of her bedside table, he could fit underneath the bottom drawer and just have a nice quiet nap there away from the strange people he didn’t like being in his home. 🙈

Igmum · 15/05/2025 12:06

So pleased you found her! Tell her she’s an arsehole but a gorgeous one ❤️

Minesril · 15/05/2025 12:55
