I've got a new kitten - photo attached as tax - and looking for some great toys. We've got balls, a crinkle tunnel, cat nip mice and da bird. I'm looking for maybe one of those 3 tier things with balls in that roll around. And anything else that is recommended.

Those ball things got 5 min of use when new and then never again. Ping pong balls are quite popular, especially if you can set up an 'arena' somewhere the ball can bounce off the edges. Or curled up balls of foil, or pipe cleaners.

ERKOON Cat Silvervine Chew... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0C1GDX53S? is the current favourite, still in use after Christmas.

Thanks I'll look at those. Might not bother with the other one then. We've got ping pong balls 😊

Don’t have a picture but a Flying Frenzy is the best toy I ever got my cat. Got it when he was a kitten and he’ still loves it now he’s a senior. They’re absolutely brilliant, you do have to play with them with the cat but they tire them out so much.

Ping pong ball in a dry bathtub.
Feathers on a fishing line wand.
Crinkly balls
Sweetie wrappers
Pencils
Knitting needles
Carrots
Your kids favourite soft toy
Socks
Dishwashing sponge
Anything you do not want them playing with....

Oh, gorgeous kitty! Mine aren't kittens anymore but still love an empty cardboard box. They also have lots of foil pompoms things, which they LOVE but are ridiculously irritating.

CocoapuffPuff · 12/01/2025 15:13

A pile of amazon packaging paper - the brown sugar paper type. My smallest has a heap of this in the hall that she spends hours in, diving into it and chirping away as she buries other toys in it. She hides in it and leaps out on her brother and sister. The paper gets softer with play and eventually falls apart, but she gets so much fun out of it that it's worth the mess.

My two have allllllll the toys in the world but the one thing that consistently played with is little plastic springs.

My mum's cat is 5 now but still loves the fishing rod cat teaser with a bell and pompoms on the string that he had when he was a kitten. I picked it up in poundland to distract him from climbing the curtains and it works brilliantly. Mum trained him to get a treat at the end of play time and the used it to call him in from the garden after she started to let him out.
He also likes a flat box thing with a ping-pong ball in that rolls around under a layer of corrugated cardboard... There are paw sized holes on the top and sides that he tries to reach the ball through. He loves it.

Mollies mice and plastic springs have been very popular in my house. Also welch Allyen sure temp thermometer covers. (If you happen to be a nurse!)

Toddlerteaplease · 12/01/2025 16:01

Having said that. Penelope thinks playing is beneath her.

A scratching post with a dangling mouse. Never tires of it.

Overtheatlantic · 12/01/2025 17:11

Two shoelaces tied together and you waving it in front of the kitten and dragging it along the floor. 😹

Inkythemouse · 12/01/2025 17:15

Plastic springs. All 3 of mine love these and play for hours with them.
Amazon do packets of about 50

Ball tracks are great for interactive play though, especially post-surgery if you need to entertain your kitten without them getting too excited. I’ve got a Catit one & foster cats of all ages have enjoyed pushing the ball back & forth with me.

Of course cardboard boxes are the classic.

roobyred · 12/01/2025 18:02

The tiered ball thing was a complete hit for years here.

We have both those 😁 weren't a hit with my old tabby, but kitten loves the springs.

Cardboard box or two.
This one is slept in by Boycat and chewed into interesting shapes by Girlcat.
The yellow pompom toy is vaguely interesting for about a minute.

Kittens a babe! Out of every toy I've ever bought mine (he has his own toy box 🤣) the favourite and one that he never gets bored of is springs! I think it's because he can chase them around the wooden floor!

MyNameIsAckinckacker · 13/01/2025 12:17

The boxes the toys arrive in lol..

Pieces of pasta on a hard floor. Sweetie wrappers. Our old cat would play fetch(or flicky) for hours. They had to be flicked, not thrown. But you would get them dropped off your head at 3 in the morning.
