As we approach the festive season, they're already finessing their plans and recalling last year's successes............

That's amazing @CatsonPollock although I think it would end in chaos and destruction here as the cats would try to catch the bird, the tree would get knocked over, there would be owl poo everywhere. Kind of a smaller version of Frank Kelly's 12 Days of Christmas.

RumNotRun · 22/12/2024 10:41

I think Lex is trying to control me with his mind.

I think Lex is trying to control me with his mind.

Gizmo was thinking about doing the same to me this morning.
He ended up just making biscuits on my duvet.

Did you find yourself filling his bowl with Dreamies and roast chicken?

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 22/12/2024 11:48

Argh our Christmas butcher order won't be delivered today after all. He has to come over 100 miles.
There have been cancelled boats due to the wind and storm.

I made lots of room in the fridge for the turkey, too.

Oh well. It'll come. Eventually. This is one of the problems with living so far from civilisation.

🤣🤣

Esgaroth · 22/12/2024 12:26

Kettle just melted my heart. My 9 year old daughter was crying on the sofa (about some perceived Christmas injustice, not relevant). He came over meowing and patted her gently with his paw, then jumped up and snuggled next to her.

Who says cats are aloof and unloving? My cat is an angel.

Oh Kettle, you lovely, lovely boy.

Did that cheer her up?

Oh gosh. Do Gizmo & Linney know their turkey might be late?

RumNotRun · 22/12/2024 12:44

@EmpressaurusKitty to his disgust I did not. The mind control failed so he stomped off and went to sleep. I seem to be disappointing all the cats today as I just got the turkey out of the freezer but put it in the fridge, not on the floor for the cats. I don't think they'd like frozen meat although Toad reckons he would give it a try.

If there were wild turkeys in Scotland I wouldn't put it past Gizmo to catch his own.

Yes, much better than I could have done!

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 22/12/2024 13:12

I do love Kettle. He's a lovely fella.
And yes, I've been consoled by a cat when I was crying.
Cats aren't aloof IMO. They do their best (usually).

EmpressaurusKitty · 22/12/2024 13:26

I was crying about something once & my foster at that time, a real bruiser who’s apparently now the terror of his neighbourhood, came over to pat my arm & make worried noises. He even let me hug him - briefly.

EmpressaurusKitty · 22/12/2024 13:31

I’m a veggie but I thought Kitty should have at least a bit of fresh meat over Christmas - not on the day though because I’m away.

The woman at the local farm shop said her cat liked lamb kidneys, sold me one & told me exactly how to cook it.

So I cooked it this morning, let it cool, cut it up & put a couple of the bits in her bowl.

She licked one & wandered off to bed.

Huh.

I am not buying bits of every available animal so I can eventually find out that Kitty has a partiality for breast of kangaroo.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 22/12/2024 13:31

When I was getting dressed Gizmo swiped my ankles and I yelled.

So he guiltily went and hid behind the bedside cabinet.

Breadcat24 · 22/12/2024 13:35

@Esgaroth Kettle is a star
I think cats can be more empathetic than they get credit for- Breadcat has always sat with me when I am ill.
Till of course she thinks I am sufficiently better then she biffs me when I stroke her!
Currently curled up in spare bedroom because

  1. I have washed the throw on the bed she usually prefers and she does not like the smell of the freshly washed version
  2. I need to vacuum the spare bedroom

2025willbemytime · 22/12/2024 16:40

I don't want to admit how many times I've not vacuumed or exactly how many days I've had to wait to change my bed because the cats were asleep where I needed to clean or on the bed..

EmpressaurusKitty · 22/12/2024 16:45

I caught myself not putting the light on in the bedroom the other day because I didn’t want to wake Kitty.

CatsonPollock · 22/12/2024 17:10

Something tells me I'm being watched...

Lucky DP.

Pianoaholic · 22/12/2024 18:36

Smart thinking , wearing a jumper the same colour as Finlay, stops the cat hairs showing up!

Pudmyboy · 22/12/2024 19:18

CatsonPollock · 22/12/2024 10:09

The Pollock duo have been exceptionally well behaved around the Christmas tree this year... but they may have lulled me into a false sense of security so I'm still suspicious... a leopard never changes its spots (even black ones)

However I just saw this on Bluesky - a NMO!
(A huge barred owl flew down a Virginia family’s chimney, knocked over the star on top of their Christmas tree, and perched himself on top) 🙀

This is amazing: hope it got out okay!

JaceLancs · 22/12/2024 19:36

@EmpressaurusKitty and @Pianoaholic DP is rather tall with size 14 feet and hands to match makes Finlay look like a kitten again! He’s a smallish cat anyway!

RumNotRun · 22/12/2024 20:40

I have two cats on my lap, both snuggled under the blanket. It's lovely to have them being affectionate but I really want to move my legs.
