If you’ve lost a loved cat and hesitating whether to take the plunge again..

Just do it! (Of course, usual pet owners caveats being able to provide long term care and love, insurance and a safe home).

I’m posting this because only 4 weeks ago we had to say goodbye to our beautiful 20yrold lady who we’ve had since a stray kitten.

Perhaps we grieved in the months before her passing, she was diagnosed with a large tumour and was 20. Still, the grief when we said goodbye was immense.

We dithered with what to do with her left over pouches and bags of litter … looked at our local rescue a few days later and adopted two 7 mth old black kittens a week ago.

Oh the life they have brought to our house! Just recommending really in case anyone out there is dithering like we were (admittedly we didn’t dither for long!)

Just hoping someone might read this who is pondering whether to get another or not…. our Rescue has a waiting list of cats to be DROPPED OFF (sorry not shouting!) for potential rescue going back to early September. They desperately need existing cats to be adopted to make space for the incoming ones.
I just wondered if I might sway someone who is seesawing

Your beautiful old lady definitely sent those gorgeous kittens to you <3

PuzzlingRecluse · 22/11/2024 21:17

Omg they are all gorgeous ❤️❤️❤️

ClementineChurchill · 22/11/2024 21:32

I was always very ‘the cat distribution system will send me one if it’s the right moment’ but after my old girl died and the other was getting lonely I decided the cat distribution system needed a kick up the arse so I went to the shelter and took in a splendid wee chap who needed a home (and they needed the bed for another poor creature …). Haven’t regretted it! Sometimes you need to just crack on with things and not wait for them to come to you. They can’t come to you because they’re stuck in a shelter waiting to be adopted!

Our CPL is the same. It’s heartbreaking - this week there was a 16 year old boy whose elderly owner had passed away 💔.

Your kittens are gorgeous. We had an indecently short gap between losing our beautiful girl to cancer and adopting our little boy - I 100% believe she sent him to me. This photo from yesterday is him recreating one of her favourite poses, which is also her on the desktop background.

It’s hard to believe this time last year he was a stray kitten that a lady was feeding in her shed/garden, and eventually brought in when the snow started.

Our last cat was put down when DD was a baby (she's now 15) and it was quite traumatic. Then the DC were small and we didn't want the responsibility. But six weeks ago we adopted a 1yr old rescue girl, who is just so lovely that I wish we'd done it sooner. Teen DD is well smitten!

My old boy was hit by a car and died, and I was adamant I didn’t want another as it was too painful. 6 weeks later 2 one year old girlies joined the family. They didn’t replace him, but they filled a little gap that I had in my heart 🥰

Stormyweatheroutthere · 22/11/2024 22:00

We lost 1 of our 2 dbs.. 1 pined so badly I thought he would waste away. CPL had a lone time 1kg black dkitten.. Within a week or 2 they were besties...
Been together 4 years now..

I lost my best boy in September and we recently adopted a young cat. I still miss my cat but the presence of another (naughty) cat has helped. He’s super affectionate and a real joy. I was told by everyone to wait but I’m glad I didn’t. I wanted to get one in the winter as then it was easier to keep him in to settle as well.

TheHorneSection · 22/11/2024 22:40

We lost our rescue boy after just a year, still had our old fat lazy cat, but then somehow four weeks later we ended up with this little terror. He’s about 8 months old and less than three weeks in is already causing havoc and pissing off the older cat by trying to get her to play. DS is in love and that’s all that matters though!
