Just do it! (Of course, usual pet owners caveats being able to provide long term care and love, insurance and a safe home).

I’m posting this because only 4 weeks ago we had to say goodbye to our beautiful 20yrold lady who we’ve had since a stray kitten.

Perhaps we grieved in the months before her passing, she was diagnosed with a large tumour and was 20. Still, the grief when we said goodbye was immense.

We dithered with what to do with her left over pouches and bags of litter … looked at our local rescue a few days later and adopted two 7 mth old black kittens a week ago.

Oh the life they have brought to our house! Just recommending really in case anyone out there is dithering like we were (admittedly we didn’t dither for long!)

I only have one cat at a time - I have my 14-year-old ginger girl now, and I sometimes wonder if when she goes I can put myself through it again. I am nearly 70 and live alone although my DSs are local and visit often. I think if I do go for another, I would look for an older cat - not sure at 70 if it would be fair to take on a young cat who might well outlive me. Also, not a very busy household now, and I worry that a young cat would be bored.

I know we have thanks, but the litter tray needs a like heart for all these lovely kitties. I lost my gorgeous boy yesterday and it’s so raw. His sister has been snuggling me all day which is a big comfort.

Oh my goodness @HyggeTyggeDotCom I recognise your (amazing) user name! Is that your beautiful boy?

HyggeTyggeDotCom · 26/11/2024 20:05

Yes @Puppylucky my handsome Ted. He had been poorly but rallied and was doing really well. Then Sunday evening I found him collapsed and had to PTS yesterday. Missing him so much already.

ClementineChurchill · 26/11/2024 20:29

We lost our old boy at new year and I found a way to be involved with animals but am now feeling quite broody for a cat in the house again... It has taken a while for me though, I wouldn't have been ready straight away (everyone's different though). Partly because it was quite hard work looking after him in his old age around a generally hectic life so after we lost him I just felt the need for a break and couldn't face taking on another cat and then doing the elderly bit again. If we took on another cat I would have to stop doing something else I'm doing in the house though (bit outing so hard to explain fully). So a bit of a dilemma...
