Passports, buckets and spades - the Excellent Cats go on their holidays

The last thread filled up very quickly, mainly thanks to Gizmo's adventures. He is now a fully-fledged Excellent Cat.

And it's allegedly summertime so Ho for the Hols!

...the sonic things might reduce autumn spiders.

Don't get spiders in my house any more, not since Girlcat moved in. I do remember her strolling into the room one autumn with legs sticking out of her mouth still faintly waving (yuk).

Breadcat24 · 21/08/2024 19:16

HELP PLEASE!
I am being bitten to shreds. Only on the torso and in very inconvenient places (TMI)
I am pretty convinced Breadcat does not have fleas but gave her another spot on dose to be sure- she is not scratching -just looking at me resentfully.
I have sprayed every carpet in the house.
I am still getting bitten- I cannot see a mosquito or gnats or midges. No evidence of bedbugs.
Any advice

I had that. It turned out to be carpet beetles. They don't actually bite you, it's the fibres from the larvae or something, in the air.

Easy to get rid of if it's that.

Anniegetyourgun · 22/08/2024 20:41

Izzy is a mighty hunter of anything with multiple legs. I didn't realise there had been so many large spiders lurking in the house until I found the flattened corpses. And I rather think she saved me from a mosquito the other night, which is impressive. Normally if there is a mozzie in the room I WILL get bitten. Such a useful little fuzzy housemate.

JoanOgden · 23/08/2024 02:56

Once I was lying in bed with my cat when an annoying fly turned up and started buzzing around the bed, stopping me from falling asleep. I was just resentfully contemplating getting up to open the window or locate the fly swatter, when my cat leapt up and swallowed the fly!

Honestly she was worth the adoption fee for that moment alone.

TheShellBeach · 23/08/2024 12:03

Oh Gizmo!

Just after I got up, he jumped on to the bed and started biting the duvet cover.

Then he accidentally bit Mr SB.

Oh well. At least it made Mr SB get up.

Are you sure it was an accident? had he been served breakfast?

Yes he'd had a full pouch of Sheba.

Looking contrite............

Nah, that's a sorry-not-sorry-don't-care face!

Pudmyboy · 23/08/2024 13:01

(he is a photogenic fella!)

RumNotRun · 23/08/2024 13:26

He's so handsome! I still do not believe that sweet angel would ever do anything wrong. Clearly Mr SB was lollygagging and should have been up doing some of the jobs around the house (there's bound to be a list or is that just me/my family?).

Icantfindanewname · 23/08/2024 15:35

Gotta love that face!

After some absenteeism since the weather improved, (although he did keep appearing with his hunting spoils, as obviously we are soooo bad at hunting ourselves, he has to show us the potential benefits Envy), Thistle has decided to take at least one of his afternoon naps on his own sofa. Never mind the nail kit, tape measure and hairbrush which had been discarded there before him (I carefully fished them out). It's HIS seat in the sun 😂

Aaaaaaaaand he's been out on patrol and come back. With a look like this, I can't help wonder what he's been up to 🤔. I don't want to go and look at our back step...

Thistle is beautiful

Mr SB does have a list, which starts with making us tea, then making our breakfast (and more tea).

He then gets dressed, mops the kitchen floor and makes more tea for me.

He sorts out the bins, washes up, makes more tea for me and then does some gardening.

And I? Well, in between drinking all that tea, I feed the cats, sort out the litter tray, make the bed and clean the bathroom.

Eventually, I do my face and get dressed.

There is generally a background of classical music playing in the background for all this activity and tea drinking.

It's a peaceful household on the whole.

At least it was until Gizmo joined us

🤣

Another baby step forwards in the progress of Tobias.

There's a direct route from the feeding station past the TV to the living room door, which is also a good route to the windowsill. The alternative is to cut across the room and pass through the quite narrow gap between the coffee table & the sofa then cut back across the room. Sort of like a semi circle - you can either take the shorter, straighter, (wide) route or go round the longer, curved, narrow route past the scary monster.

So tonight Tobias decided that his preferred option was to come across the room, go between the table & sofa and pause by where I was sitting, allow me to stroke him, then saunter on back to the other side of the room to go out of the door. First time he's actually come to me for a stroke, rather than letting me go to him & permitting the interaction.

Breadcat24 · 23/08/2024 22:42

@Allergictoironing tobias making progress well done
@TheShellBeach ha ha ha ha

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 24/08/2024 07:17

Well worth a look - any ideas?
(The 'red sock' and 'eaten a flamingo' comments really did make me snort 😂)

On holiday at the moment (Cornwall) for a couple of weeks. A friend is house sitting and minding our fluffies.
Will post updates about any holiday cats 😁.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 24/08/2024 07:32

Tobias seems to making good progress.

@TheShellBeach - sorry, your photo of TC is definitely not that of a 'contrite' cat. It's an 'I have you in my power' look 😽.

It's the best I could do. He always looks like that.

I was trying to change the sheets this morning and Gizmo didn't want to get off the bed.

I've never heard a cat growl like that.
A guard dog would have been proud of the outraged noise he emitted.

OP posts:
TheShellBeach · 24/08/2024 11:25

And Gizmo seems to have either been stung by a wasp, or scratched by one of the other cats. His lower lip on one side is swollen.

I suspect Picard.

The (small) wound isn't stopping him from eating, though.

Gorgeous cat, gorgeous colouring! 😻

Leroy had his first check up today and the vet was so pleased she doesn't think he needs the second one 😊

Leroy's a better patient than his daddy is 😂
