The last thread filled up very quickly, mainly thanks to Gizmo's adventures. He is now a fully-fledged Excellent Cat.

And it's allegedly summertime so Ho for the Hols!

Aww, look at Leroy’s little green bandage.
And was Gizmo a good boy for the vet?

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 21/08/2024 17:54

Well done Leroy 👍

TheShellBeach · 21/08/2024 17:54

Gizmo went on Monday and he was NOT a good boy for the vet. He tried to bite her. Again.

Linney went today and he WAS a good boy for the vet. As ever.

Sorry, yes, just came back to correct myself and say Linney not Gizmo.
Good boy Linney. Naughty Gizmo!

RumNotRun · 21/08/2024 18:13

Well done Linney and Leroy - may all other cats use you both as role models.

Breadcat24 · 21/08/2024 19:11

Only Leroy could look so chic in a bandage

Breadcat24 · 21/08/2024 19:16

HELP PLEASE!
I am being bitten to shreds. Only on the torso and in very inconvenient places (TMI)
I am pretty convinced Breadcat does not have fleas but gave her another spot on dose to be sure- she is not scratching -just looking at me resentfully.
I have sprayed every carpet in the house.
I am still getting bitten- I cannot see a mosquito or gnats or midges. No evidence of bedbugs.
Any advice

YesItsMeIDontCare · 21/08/2024 19:22

If you've got nails, give Breadcat a really good scritch especially in the rump region at the base of her tail, If you get flea dirt under your nails she's got fleas, if you don't she hasn't.

Yes, yes it is a bit grim 😂

Breadcat24 · 21/08/2024 19:27

@YesItsMeIDontCare Thank you
I'll let you know when I catch her. Just about to run around the garden.

Breadcat24 · 21/08/2024 20:05

I am googling like a frenzied itchy person covered in citronella
Breadcat is hiding in a bush.
I have been cutting back brambles and picking blackberries on the allotment so it is possible apparently that this is harvest mites who burrow into your skin (lovely) also known as chiggers
I am going full DEFCON 1
I have boiled in a bath
Coated myself in DEET
Sprayed the house in Indorex.
Boiled all bedding
Ordered a load of Avon skin so soft and sonic plug in pest defenders from amazon (are these ok with cats - they say they are but..)

In my defense I have a bite in my bellybutton that is driving me loopy.
Can I let Breadcat off- nothing on legs or ankles- which fleas have always gone for in the past

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 21/08/2024 22:03

Sorry to hear of excellent cats going to the vet, and also of possible infestations @Breadcat24 😬. Louie is both furious that the weather has changed, and slightly loopy with the full moon. Does anyone else’s cat get that? Here he is enjoying the sun on Sunday, just before trying and failing (thankfully) to murder a butterfly.

Lovely Louie
I get told by Breadcat that the weather is my fault and she is most disappointed that I cannot change it.
Also checks if the weather is the same at the front of the house and the back

Our previous cat toileted outside and would go out in all weathers rather than use the litter tray. She really really hated the snow though. I cleared this path up to her toilet area, and dug that over for her - DP carried her out. Obviously she was furious at having to walk back in rather than him wait for her and carry her back. Oh, I miss her so much, my sweet girl 🤍

Basil is balancing on the mound of coats on the newel post. Never seen him there before (more commonly Sybil's territory)

Walter and Benny think the weather is different at the front end back doors too. And in the evenings Walt will only go out of the front door, despite the back being wide open. Not a thought exists in his furry little head.

Allergictoironing · 22/08/2024 08:32

Nearly had a major disaster this morning. I open the door into the conservatory area first thing in summer, mainly to get cooler air in the kitchen & in case Girlcat wants to check it out (she still lives in hope we will get another mouse infestation I think).

Making final tea to take with me to work, suddenly realised that the door was closed & there was a black moving shadow the other side of it - Girlcat had gone in, & the door had closed on her! If I hadn't seen her then, I would have just assumed she was in the bottom of the wardrobe & merrily gone to work, with it being a late afternoon today for me, and the poor thing would have been stuck there all day with no food, water, company, litter tray.....

She was upset when she came in & just had to spend 10 mins on cuddles & treats 😢

Cailleach1 · 22/08/2024 09:02

@Breadcat24 , It sounds miserable. We have twice been ‘infested’ with something that gave us bites. And, we never found the source for either time. My husband used to travel a lot, and I wonder if something came home on a suitcase.

The first was when I used to dry my clothes and bedding on the line, outside. I started using my dryer, but put the clothes through the dryer so that the warm air and agitation would kill and dislodge anything. Whatever it was cleared up in a relatively short time. It may just be a coincidence.

The second time, I did the same. Also started hoovering mattresses and bedsteads. Also wiping them with a wet cloth, and the same with chests of drawers and cupboards. It was exhausting, but eventually stopped as well.

I now dry my clothes and bedding on racks in the loft. I still put them through the dryer for 20 mins when they are dry though.

RumNotRun · 22/08/2024 10:08

I went out to top up the bird feeders this morning, unaccompanied because it's raining. I felt like I was being watched...

I was shouted at by Ghostie when I came back inside as I hadn't taken her out (despite her not wanting to go out because of the aforementioned rain).

He's trying to keep out of your way, having heard that you were planning to eat him, Grumpy.

In non cat news the smallest human idiot sister got her gcse results this morning. Very proud of her. Good passes in everything apart from a U in English Lit which was totally expected due to her handing in blank papers for the last 2/3 years 😭😭

Anyway college to study art in September! No more dealing with school for me 😊 end of an era 28 years of children in school! No more now tho!

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 22/08/2024 11:11

@HouseofHolbein Many congrats to your smallest human clearly not an idiot sister. 😁
Exciting times for her going forward.

RumNotRun · 22/08/2024 11:31

Congrats to the smallest human!

Breadcat24 · 22/08/2024 12:41

@Cailleach1 Thank you
@YesItsMeIDontCare did the scritch nothing!

So hooray not fleas- only I have been bitten and only after working in the brambles so it is chiggers. Not great but on the bright side my house, carpets and bedding are now super clean washed and treated and the sonic things might reduce autumn spiders.

@Grumpyoldpersonwithcats perhaps Basil appreciated the coats widening the area he could sit Have you thought of putting a seat on the banister next to your newel post?
