Passports, buckets and spades - the Excellent Cats go on their holidays

The last thread filled up very quickly, mainly thanks to Gizmo's adventures. He is now a fully-fledged Excellent Cat.

And it's allegedly summertime so Ho for the Hols!

Mine will quite happily eat any RC dry (indoor, renal, hairball, satiety balance) but offer them another brand and I get The Look.

Partly because I now have a cat with very soft poos, and partly because Annie is trying out different recipes on her new(ish) girls, I've been trying different wet foods. I've been looking at grain free, and turns out they love both Webbox Naturals, and Morrisons Tasty grain free of all brands! AND these are comparatively cheap, so win/win.

Pixiedust1234 · 07/08/2024 09:13

oooo I might try the Webblox for the stray. Since getting spayed her poos have been awful and I'm unsure whether it's because she's eating more biscuits or whether it's the Felix soups she had due to the hot weather (and now insistent demands). She was on Whiskas wet prior to spay (and living outdoors) but now only licks the gravy off it. Vets say mess with diet or expensive blood tests. Cat says no thanks to both.

The vet advised us to stop giving dry food to Gizmo, because of his diarrhoea.

It seems to have worked. It's difficult, because Linney likes it very much, but if I leave it out, of course Gizmo eats it, too.

The vet also gave us some sachets to mix with some Lickelix (Serenicare) and he has one a day. They're very expensive, but they've stopped his awful poos.

Honestly! What a discussion. But it's important.

Stopping the neighbour from giving Gizmo dry dog food and bowls of milk has also helped

That's interesting - when we used to 'look after' TC when TC's dad was away - he only ever had wet food. When he did successfully break into ours he would however hoover everything including dry food.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 07/08/2024 09:54

Louie is fussy about wet food - he’d had Whiskas in his previous home so I gave him that the first week with us just for consistency and he only licked the jelly off it. Plus it was revolting. Our previous cat had Sheba and after faffing around with Blink (made him puke) and a freezer full of raw Katkin (wouldn’t touch it after the first day) we’ve circled back to Sheba.

I don’t mind if he doesn’t eat that much of it/prefers dry because he does drink. S would only drink puddle water off the top of the garden waste bin so got most of her liquid from wet food.

Pixiedust1234 · 07/08/2024 10:13

That frightened me. SereniCare is a funeral home in N.Utah 😂

Will investigate that so thank you. At the moment we are giving her cat probiotics (FortiFlora) which is causing her to eat anything that doesn't move but hasn't settled her digestion.

HouseofHolbein · 07/08/2024 15:39

Mine only eat dry food. And they tend to have Morrisons own brand. Vet keeps giving them a clean bill of health so I'll stick with it.

Feel like a cheapskate now 🤣🤣

Stigsmother · 07/08/2024 17:18

Hello, everyone, handmaiden to two excellent black cats here, delighted to have caught up with Gizmo 😊

TheShellBeach · 07/08/2024 17:20

Waves at @Stigsmother .
Nice to see a regular from the TC threads again 😁.

TheShellBeach · 07/08/2024 17:30

Poor old Gizmo has been hissed at by Suzy.
He slunk in very carefully, edging past her.

And I've discovered that Gizmo has been visiting yet another neighbour. A lady, who came over to see me, to ask where he'd come from.

It turns out that Mr. G. has made himself at home in her house. I told her about not feeding him, and she understood.

But she did tell me that the male neighbour gave Gizmo a whole tin of sardines, on top of the dog food and milk.

No wonder the litter tray was unspeakable the next day.

Hi Grumpy (waves back) so pleased I have found you and TC/Gizmo, and looking forward to meeting a whole new group of excellent cats, and their supplicants 😀

Good grief! I think I would have tummy troubles with that too 😮

Welcome Stigsmother but you need to post pics of your two!! 😁

ShoutyCatSlave · 07/08/2024 22:02

Agatha loves webbox naturals. And go-cat crunchies. So does the stray MMC who I feed every day. And the foxes (parents and 5 kits), who are probably well past the point of leaving home, but are now used to a mouthful of cat biscuits. Not sure how I make sure that MMC is fed and watered without inviting foxes to my garden....

RumNotRun · 07/08/2024 22:42

I just stood up and noticed that I was being watched (sorry for the poor quality, my phone doesn't like zooming in).

Happy international cat day everyone! 🐱 🐈 🐈‍⬛ 😽

Allergictoironing · 08/08/2024 08:17

Wish me luck guys & gals - Girlcat MoT time this morning, she really doesn't appreciate being crated! She won't scratch or bite, but I need to grab her first go then walk downstairs without letting the squirming slippery creature get away.

Breadcat24 · 08/08/2024 09:50

@Papergirl1968 and everyone
Happy International cat day to you too.
Though everyday is an international cat day on this thread

YesItsMeIDontCare · 08/08/2024 09:51

Happy Cat Day!!!

Leroy reckons every day is Cat Day... he's not wrong in this house tbf 🤷🏼‍♀️

Sympthies Allergic - Leroy has his on Saturday 🙈

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 08/08/2024 10:08

Happy International Cat day to all. 😻
As others have said - our cats don't give a tinker's cuss about this because they are treated like royalty every day anyway..

Good luck Allergic ours aren't due until October but I think I'm going to have to take Karl and Lenny to the vet shortly as both have scabby ears at present (probably harvest mites again).

Allergictoironing · 08/08/2024 10:24

She was pretty good, didn't really struggle until she realised we were heading for the crate. Cried quietly the entire journey which is normal, settled one we were in the vets because I had the top of the crate open & was scratching her neck.

Vet had to drag her out of the crate & she kept on trying to slither back in, but tolerated jabs & temp being taken well. Cried only part of the way home.

DIDN'T charge off behind the sofa or upstairs when we got home & I let her out, instead demanded treats (which she got of course).

The really difficult one will be Tobias in another month or so 😱

Breadcat24 · 08/08/2024 11:00

@Allergictoironing well done and good luck!

I pay a vet to home visit because I cannot cope with the stress!
To be fair it was not as expensive as I thought.

She is registered with a local vet as well though
