I’ve seen or spoken to four doctors amazingly - three GPs and a 111 doctor, but they all seem at a bit of a loss.
DM and DD have had it too. DD often doesn’t wash her hands after changing baby’s nappy so I’ve had words about the importance of hygiene.
It could also be that my weight loss injections are a factor so I’ve got to stop them for a couple of weeks. You’d think weight would be dropping off me with all the d&v, but it’s not. 1-2lbs at most! 🥲

Supersimkin7 · 22/07/2024 16:42

Darling Matt loves you so much. Don’t worry about weight loss when you’re this weak - d&v can last a fortnight, so take it easy, you poor girl.

Follow Matt’s lead and rest.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 22/07/2024 18:16

So there I was this afternoon, on hold to the DWP, giving Leroy the attention he was demanding and, obviously, telling him how much I love him. And I thought to myself "Why? Why do I love him?" And I don't know, because all the reasons I could think of I would love him without anyway 🤷🏼‍♀️

So c'mon, help me out here guys... Why do you love your cat/s?

AnneKipankitoo · 22/07/2024 18:17

I thought I was on the wrong thread there.

Because they’re just…so loveable?
Matt is my big brave boy, who takes no shit from anyone, insists on sitting on me or by me and rubbing his head against mine, is always hungry and came to us at 12 weeks from the RSPCA and stepped out of his carrier, looking around as if to say this will do.
Socks is my shy, gentle sweetheart who hid for weeks but has come out of her shell since ddog died, puts a polite paw on my arm when she wants a fuss, needs me to sit by her when she eats so her greedy brother doesn’t scoff it, and often comes to fetch me to bed at around 10pm where she waits patients for her supper and her dreamies and then settles down for cuddles.
I sometimes worry that I love them more than the kids. 😻

At the talk of d&v?
Sorry to derail 😆

Chaos in the Car Park

I was called to the aid of an elderly lady today who had fallen, got concussed, was bleeding from a head wound and generally injured, close to our house this afternoon.

While waiting for the ambulance and trying to stop her 90 year old husband from standing her up I was assisted in my endeavours by Picard's mum.

I was also assisted by Linney and Picard, who sat near the patient, being nosy and not helping in the slightest.

I showed Picard's mum some of the pictures of Picard in our house.

It turns out that he is 5. And he lets her groom and trim his fur. I am impressed.

(Can you imagine grooming Gizmo? You'd also need an ambulance after trying that)

@Papergirl1968 but would you love them any less if they weren't all those things? I mean, Leroy is cute, fluffy, beautiful, gorgeous, feisty, fluffy, chatty, crafty, fluffy, cuddly, and he brings me so much joy and happiness... but I don't think I'd love him any less if he wasn't all that, iyswim.

Allergictoironing · 22/07/2024 19:05

So I came home tonight to find a rather large vomit, mostly undigested food but in the centre the longest hairball I have ever seen. It was literally 8cm long - I measured it! Think it must be Tobias's, as I've not seen anything like it in 8 years of Girlcat being here.

This is the third, and longest by far, I've found in the last month. I know the cure would be to brush him loads, but we are still at the stage of occasional strokes and I think me approaching with a brush would terrify him. Looks like I'm going to have to increase the proportion of Indoor (has anti hairball in it) dry food, and when that runs out get some specific anti hairball. Paste is unlikely to be accepted, especially if he's supposed to eat it off my finger!

Defiantlynot41 · 22/07/2024 19:17

Hairball paste on front of foreleg. They HAVE to lick it off. Don't be like me and apply so much they can flick it off with a shake of the leg 😂

Or smear it around their mouth if they are not bitey.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 22/07/2024 19:28

Don't be like me and apply so much they can flick it off with a shake of the leg 😂

Don't worry, we've all done that Defiantly 😂

RumNotRun · 22/07/2024 19:56

@YesItsMeIDontCare you've made me think now! I was going to say cause they're adorable and love me and are all funny little weirdos with their own personality, but yeah I'd still love them if they were more aloof and weren't such floofy balls of gorgeousness.

Incidentally if you need a hand navigating the world of DWP, let me know. I worked there for 14yrs and still have some friends within the system (who haven't managed to escape yet!)

Allergictoironing · 22/07/2024 20:05

... if they are not bitey.

Tobias would have my hand off if I tried to put it on his leg, let alone round his mouth!

Papergirl1968 · 22/07/2024 20:33

That is true, @YesItsMeIDontCare
and I’d love them nevertheless ❤️

Supersimkin7 · 22/07/2024 20:43

I just do love my cats. Deeply, instantly and properly.

It’s the daily delight mixed with cuddles that does it for me - and what interesting people they are.

Even on mega furball days.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 22/07/2024 20:58

Even on mega furball days.

God yes - DH or DS barf and they get cleaning stuff thrown at them. Leroy brings up a hairball and he's "Mummy's brave boy", "do you feel a bit better now?" etc 😂

RumNotRun · 22/07/2024 21:59

The terrible twins say that the question should not be why we love our cats, but why our cats love us even though we continually disappoint them by not providing a constant supply of chicken and Dreamies, not turning the rain off when they want to go out, moving when they've designed to sit on our laps etc.

@RumNotRun tbh I'll accept tolerance from Leroy 😁

learieonthewildmoor · 23/07/2024 00:31

I read an article that said cats infect us with a parasite that makes us love them.
A cat would totally do that, and it explains a lot.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 23/07/2024 01:18

@learieonthewildmoor - toxoplasmosis. Its sole purpose is to get inside cats to complete its lifecycle so it makes cat's prey unafraid of them, and well, cat's gonna cat. There's evidence that in humans it causes a slight increase in risky behaviour - so we do something stupid, die and then cats can find our dead bodies and y'know, complete the lifecycle 🤷🏼‍♀️😁

Supersimkin7 · 23/07/2024 10:58

Quite right too, Yes.

Ending my days as an enormous Dreamie would be the highest privilege.

RumNotRun · 23/07/2024 11:48

My sister is convinced that one day I'm going to die in my house by falling down the stairs or something, and then I'll get eaten by my cats as no-one will realise what's happened 😂 She made me give keys to a neighbour and let her know their details so she can get them to check on me if I disappear. I thought I was the one with the crazy imagination in the family!

TheShellBeach · 23/07/2024 12:40

I read a book by a forensic pathologist which makes it clear that while your faithful dogs will sit sadly by your dead body, your faithless cats will cheerfully see you as a giant, additional bag of Dreamies, and eat you.

Good at survival innit? Much better at it than dogs, mainly because we've ruined dogs with many generations of selective breeding. And much, much better than people. I mean, if any of us were starving to death could we really bring ourselves to eat our precious furry friends? there's not much meat on Izzy anyway

Supersimkin7 · 23/07/2024 13:20

That’s a very sweet sis Rum 😀

Even tho she not a pet lover, hem.

I’ve insisted on checking up on mates who live alone during Covid. Of course they were fine albeit irritated at the interruption.
