Mm, probably not that. Maybe an interesting leaf.

He did actually bring in a leaf earlier on.
It had got stuck on his tail.

Shell Are you sure Linney wasn't trying to show you something he'd found in the car park, or take you for a walk?

You mean like Flipper, warning people that something is on fire, or people needing to be rescued from a river?

Or like Lassie? I might sometimes pretend that my cats are Lassie when they shout at me. I may have been known to ask them if Timmy is stuck down a well, then I remembered that cats are heartless bastards and would probably just mock Timmy for not being able to jump out of the well.

Congrats @YesItsMeIDontCare and Mr Yes, that is fantastic news!

Hello to all the new cats and their slaves.

Fred sat staring at where his fireplace used to be before the blue and purple shield appeared. He seemed quite despondent, poor little guy.

@TheShellBeach Picard and Linney look lovely- jealous as we have rain here.
Please do not swallow the bubblegum!

Breadcat24 · 01/05/2024 17:23

excellent news @YesItsMeIDontCare
So I am reading the thread backwards.

I'm a lost cause with that.

HouseofHolbein · 01/05/2024 18:56

So pleased @YesItsMeIDontCare! Best news I've heard for a while! The idiot sisters will send love 💕

What a day? I'll tell you what a day today is...

Today is a day that we found out that DH is now in "surveillance only" and, provided his path lab results are clear, he's one of the top few who have responded so well to cancer treatment 😁👏🏻🥳🙌🏻

Leroy is as bothered about it all as ever 🙄😂

Great news Yes and Mr Yes. Delighted for you both.

RumNotRun · 01/05/2024 19:44

Oh @Breadcat24 we have had that conversation about swallowing bubblegum before. @TheShellBeach is a law unto herself!

I can't remember if we discussed this last time the bubblegum arrived, but did anyone else's grandparents tell them stories of children who died hideous deaths such as swallowing apple seeds and then a tree growing inside them (and killing them), or swallowing bubblegum which blocked their lungs so they suffocated to death. I think there was one about a child diving into the wrong end of a swimming pool and cracking their head open.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 01/05/2024 20:13

Parents rather than grandparents in my case...
My dad told me a story about a lad (friend of a friend of course) diving into a swimming pool (East End of London - late 1920s for added verisimilitude) getting his fingers stuck in a grill at the bottom of the pool and drowning. For years I dived with clenched fists...
And yes - my mum didn't allow us to have bubblegum in case we died some random bubblegum induced horrible death. I just ensured she never saw me with bubblegum 🤣

YesItsMeIDontCare · 01/05/2024 20:17

or swallowing bubblegum which blocked their lungs so they suffocated to death.

Nooooo - it stays in your stomach for 7 years and you starve because you can't eat properly!

Thank you to everyone for the love and good wishes, I really do appreciate it 🥰

TheShellBeach · 01/05/2024 20:22

I've been swallowing bubblegum for 60 years and I'm still alive.

Edited

A very similar thing happened in 2022 in the Canary Islands. This really does happen. I won't link to any of the reports as I find them very distressing.

Although it does appear that it wasn't as a result of "diving" but afterwards getting his hand trapped.

There are also many other examples of this sort of thing happening.

"For years I dived with clenched fists..."

Frankly not a bad idea unless you're an Olympic diver.

I’m reading the thread backwards too!
That is excellent news, @YesItsMeIDontCare , so pleased for you both.
Re cat nicknames, Matt is Mattieboo, or sometimes just Boo or The Boo.
Socks is SocksyKitten because she’s my baby and is scared of her own shadow, although she’s about four.

RumNotRun · 01/05/2024 21:22

Vixen has taken possession of the latest Amazon box to arrive. She started by diving under the packing paper and destroying it from below so it looked like some wild crazed animal was trying to break free. She keeps "changing position" which involves circling three times and lying back in the exact same position you started in. Weirdo.

Pets At Home had a catnip kicker with feather at half price today. Thrifty approves. We got it specially for her because she doesn't do a lot of exercise but does go doolally for catnip. She's been chatting about it most of the evening. Meanwhile, Izzy is trying to get a look in.
