Cat pinched and ate a food today I didn’t expect her

She’s normally one for begging when we have meat based foods such as chicken. I will happily toss her some chicken too especially Chinese chicken.

Today, I had a chippie. I ate all the sausage so when I finished eating but had chips left, I didn’t think much of it. Cat jumped up, sniffed a chip…the pinched it and ate it.

Granted they are cooked in beef dripping from this particular restaurant but I didn’t expect her to eat it

Oh how could you refuse?!😧

I didn't think cats liked Rich Tea biscuits!

Ilovemyshed · 07/03/2024 16:49

My boy likes to lick gingernut biscuits, plus any dregs on a plate.. soup, gravy, ice cream. No shame.

Mine used to love them with vinegar. She’d scarf it down and wince when the found particularly tart spots.

Reminds me of a friends cat licking a plate then hitting a lump of English mustard and her eyes nearly popped 😂

Mine snuck up and scarpered off with the nice half of the piece of steak I had been saving for last. Went to eat it and it had gone. Looked down to see Felix happily munching away without a care in the world. He was quickly forgiven though as it was the first time I'd seen him in almost 2 years. He was also known to sneak up and pinch chips off the plate or play tug of war with a pizza crust. The best though was when my exh left a cooplands steak bake on the kitchen work top whilst he went to get changed. He came to pick me up from work later that day full of hell. Apparently he'd gone back to the the kitchen to find his steak bake now steakless and a Moggy licking his lips in glee 😅 I did ask him why he had left it on the kitchen worktops and he said he didn't think he could jump up there. Erm how the fuck do you think he gets to the top of the kitchen cupboards to knock his biscuits down onto the floor.

I often wonder why/how people think cats don't jump places! Ever since I saw my 2 kittens years ago scale the living room curtains I knew they could climb...

Add in anything related to food and somewhere they know they're not allowed (the kitchen...) and you have Jedi climbers in cat form. I had a cat try to grab a dead mouse from a mouse trap... had to hastily take the trap and dead mouse away...

My cat pinches cheese strings. Another pinched and ate a Yorkshire pudding once. 😂

lifeisawillow3 · 07/03/2024 17:26

My boy loves chicken in a curry. Will not eat plain chicken 😆

gershwinsdog · 07/03/2024 17:29

Mine used to love melon. If I remember correctly it's why cats drink antifreeze because it has the same sweet taste.

DaBlackCatsAreDaBestCats · 07/03/2024 17:36

Arthur is quite partial to a French stick. He’s dragged one in its wrapper off the kitchen side a couple of times 🥖😔

ditalini · 07/03/2024 17:37

My late lamented girl used to go crazy if we were eating custard or especially Ambrosia Creamed Rice.

When she was in the Vet hospital and we'd agreed that more treatment was futile and she'd need to be PTS, the staff asked if there was anything they could give her to make her last wee while as good as it could be (she wasn't really eating by then). I thought they'd be horrified re: the creamed rice, but no they did try her with it, bless them 💐

Years ago two of mine liked curry takeaways I’ve now remembered and also Chinese takeaways, a new posh Chinese place opened and the cats definitely nicked some of that. Can’t recall what though.

Salt and vinegar Pringles, will eat other s&v crisps but let's you know they're not his preference. Also meringue, only the crispy part (but hates eggs), roast chicken and beef (hates lamb), ham, the fat from streaky bacon (soft not crispy) custard creams, cherry cake, mayonnaise (only full fat Helmans), cheese, rice pudding and of course melted ice cream...... I think he may not be all cat....

My cat also got locked in the dining room by accident one Christmas Day.
I'd left the turkey on the table out of his way, or so I thought.
I want in a bit later and he was lying on the table stuffed to the gills and couldn't even move.

Readthelastpagefirst · 07/03/2024 18:19

I also had a cat who loved curry. I'm vegetarian so it wasn't about the meat. He'd go mad when we had a takeaway and would lick the containers spotlessly clean. Bless him, he lived to 19 - they say turmeric is good for you!

lifebeginsaftercoffee · 07/03/2024 18:39

My kitten loves salt and vinegar crisps, peanut butter, vegemite and strong cheddar cheese Grin

soupfiend · 07/03/2024 18:41

Yes I had a cat who liked plain sponge cake and another who liked crisps, most flavours

Along with all the usual cheese, tuna, bits of egg, bits of meat

romdowa · 07/03/2024 18:49

My cat ate playdoh today ! He also loves chips , gravy, corn , oat bars and licking plastic. He's a very odd cat

namestevalian · 07/03/2024 18:54

Our neighbors cat comes into our home and garden and often would eat bowls of crisps set out for bbq / entertaining

LynetteScavo · 07/03/2024 19:00

My cat used to run off with the kids packed lunch sandwiches (in plastic bags). He'd rip it open like it was his prey. He also had a thing for carrot sticks. And he loves the smell of pukka night time tea, but hasn't actually drink any, just repeatedly sniffs it.

mitogoshi · 07/03/2024 19:05

The only thing the cat would steal was aioli dip or similar off the coffee table if left unattended, also begged for eggs. Ddog doesn't touch anything because he knows better, can put food on plates on the floor so it was a surprise the dsd s cat swiped anything

Queenfreak · 07/03/2024 19:10

We once had a cat that absolutely lived cooked chilies! If we had used them in the dish, we had to ensure any leftovers were put straight into a sealed container.
Didn't think they were terribly good for him. Didn't care for any other human food.

😂😹that was his Christmas dinner/present!

Robinkitty · 07/03/2024 19:20

I left some vegan chicken pieces out on the counter the other day thinking that not being meat it was safe from the cats - nope they enjoyed those.
my lovely boy cat will always find me if I sit down to eat a slice of cake and longingly look at me until I share it. We often share a slice of cake and glass of water..

longtompot · 07/03/2024 19:30

We have recently discovered our cat is partial to Pizza pepperoni slices and Kung Pao sauce! She has spicy tastes.
She also likes roast pork

MrsMitford3 · 07/03/2024 19:32

My cat was caught nicking a bacon wrapped sausage off of a plate on christmas last year. She came back for more!

She has a penchant for twiglets 😂

And yesterday did a very fast swipe of some sliced ham

Also mentioned on another thread-she and the dog were in cahoots-she knocked an entire Easter ham off of the counter and she and the dog gobbled it up off of the floor!

Deathraystare · 07/03/2024 19:41

Our first family cat went nuts for scrambled egg and omelettes. When Dad used to have breakfast in bed she would not too subtle-y stalk down the bed where she would be fed some! We used to have Bovril to drink and she would not leave us alone until she had some! I don't think the other cats had favourite things although mum got some monkfish and put it in a dish with some flour right on top of the oven grill (old fashioned over oven sort). Our little black cat got up there. It was hilarious! A totally black cat with a floured 'O' mouth! Like and black and white minstrel!!!
