Cat pinched and ate a food today I didn’t expect her

She’s normally one for begging when we have meat based foods such as chicken. I will happily toss her some chicken too especially Chinese chicken.

Today, I had a chippie. I ate all the sausage so when I finished eating but had chips left, I didn’t think much of it. Cat jumped up, sniffed a chip…the pinched it and ate it.

Granted they are cooked in beef dripping from this particular restaurant but I didn’t expect her to eat it

A ham sandwich was never safe with our old cat. Come to think of it, when I was a kid, our pony would nick ham sandwiches too.

Beamur · 07/03/2024 16:07

My cats are absolute menaces if we have fish and chips..will eat the fish and the chips.
They went through a phase of raiding the bread bin and chomping holes in wraps and pittas.

Floopani · 07/03/2024 16:09

Mine likes paprika pringles, peas and mashed potatoes.

Also discovered he likes yum yums when I came downstairs to find he was eating one out the packet he had broken into on the kitchen counter. He looked so happy and had eaten half!

My sadly missed old boy loved cheese and onion crisps!

Mie did too. He used to climb up my chest waiting for crumbs.

shellyleppard · 07/03/2024 16:15

Op my old cat once pinched half a roast joint of beef I had left cooling on the side after lunch.... then growled at me when I tried to claim it back!!!! 😂😂😜😂 Our other cat knocked my partner's lunchbox off the side and ran off with his sandwich for work 😂😂😂

Plump82 · 07/03/2024 16:24

Girl cat loves a nibble at a coconut snowball. My old cat was partial to some Bombay mix!!

AwkwardPaws27 · 07/03/2024 16:25

I shared my salmon fillet with Older Cat, she turned her nose up at it.
Five minutes later she took a chunk out of a white chocolate chip cookie Hmm

Allergictoironing · 07/03/2024 16:28

ISTR that Ollie (formerly of these forums) was a demon for jacket potatoes with baked beans on top, as well as all milk based desserts.

One of DBro's Burmese loved lemon drizzle cake! I was always told cats hate citrus...

Octavia64 · 07/03/2024 16:32

Mine like crème eggs. One is partial to a cup of tea.

I suppose in a cat's mind - "why should we have to put up with boring old cat food and the odd mouse/rat/bird when our humans have much more tasty stuff on offer - which they should of course share with us - or at least offer it to us!"

Before I got cats (I did have a childhood cat but we had dogs and other small pets as children) I didn't think cats begged. Boy, was I wrong on that score!

They don't beg. They wait expectantly till their slaves finally notice that their overlord is waiting to be served. They are very tolerant on occasion but if not served promptly, after a while will just take what is theirs by right of being a cat 😺🐈

CormorantStrikesBack · 07/03/2024 16:35

One of my cats goes crazy for raspberries.

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 07/03/2024 16:36

I used to have a cat that would fight me for McDonalds fries.

All mine beg - well actually the current one doesn't but the others did!

My last one (half Siamese half moggy), I got him at 4.5 months old and he hid under a church bench seat in a box room before he came out. I was advised by the vet's receptionist to read in that room with him with a cup of tea, so I did this one day, with a Rich Tea biscuit. I was reading away then noticed he'd jumped out and onto the seat in that room and was reaching up to my hand for the Rich Tea biscuit I held in that hand, so a sort of beg. He didn't get it!

Foods my cats love

  • broccoli (only cooked and preferably a little charred with oil)
  • bread
  • popcorn
  • cheese
  • cold tea
  • butter
  • fish
  • chips
  • anything with oil, pepper and salt on
  • cake (but not chocolate)
  • biscuits
  • crisps

Boy cat fights me to get to McDonald's chips.

EarlofShrewsbury · 07/03/2024 16:38

My old cat used to go nuts for a bit of cucumber.

My current cat steals cake.

Iloveanicegarden · 07/03/2024 16:38

Variously over the years our cats have eaten cat type foods but our first was specially partial to
bran flakes
marmite smeared on his nose Great fun was had by all as he licked it off
crumbly vitamin tablets from the vet. Curry sauce also as long as it wasn't too hot

My two cats when I was younger as I treat I used to feed them ham which they loved, I didn't realise it wasn't the best for them.

My parents cats, brother and sister, would wait in the kitchen on top of the breadbin next to the fridge freezer for scraps that my stepdad gave them off any roast he was doing, usually chicken but could be anything from roast lamb, pheasant etc. One of them stole anchovies off a pizza once.

My boy loves nandos hot sauce 🤦‍♀️

IBegYourBiggestPardon · 07/03/2024 16:42

Mine snuck up and scarpered off with the nice half of the piece of steak I had been saving for last. Went to eat it and it had gone. Looked down to see Felix happily munching away without a care in the world. He was quickly forgiven though as it was the first time I'd seen him in almost 2 years. He was also known to sneak up and pinch chips off the plate or play tug of war with a pizza crust. The best though was when my exh left a cooplands steak bake on the kitchen work top whilst he went to get changed. He came to pick me up from work later that day full of hell. Apparently he'd gone back to the the kitchen to find his steak bake now steakless and a Moggy licking his lips in glee 😅 I did ask him why he had left it on the kitchen worktops and he said he didn't think he could jump up there. Erm how the fuck do you think he gets to the top of the kitchen cupboards to knock his biscuits down onto the floor.

BaronessBomburst · 07/03/2024 16:43

One cat I had was partial to a G&T! You couldn't leave your drink unattended as she'd soon have her head in the glass.
