How much of a problem are unspayed girls?

Toddlerteaplease · 05/09/2023 22:54

Penelope is not yet spayed, I have just discovered that they can spray. Are they as bad as male cats. I really don't want her doing it all over the house. Obviously she'll be done asap.

Maybe you should have put that in your title then - this is a public message board after all.

Everyone who matters understood.

Well said YetAnotherSpartacus. There must be millions of very experienced cat owners who have always got spayed cats via rescues and have never experienced a cat who sprays.

There's no need to turn a simple question into a judgement.

I am looking forward to seeing the updates about Penelope, Toddler.

Everyone who matters understood

Wow! And then for the OP to answer this shitty comment with ‘precisely’. 😅

There is definitely a cliquey feel to this board at times and it’s those posters that make it unpleasant. It’s a section about cats on a public forum, ‘everyone who matters understood’...🤣 ffs.

Exactly - no wonder some people are put off posting on here.

I'm a very regular name-changer and a lot of the cat threads are really clique-y. It's a shame as there's lots of good advice to be had.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 08/09/2023 13:30

I agree and you put this really well.

This is especially the case since the 'new inmate at Toddler Towers' thread is prominent on the litter tray and a quick search would have revealed many posts by Toddler.

But instead, petit tyrants go looking for opportunities to hoist their judgy pants.

People aren't going to go searching for someone's old threads just in case they've missed some tiny detail.

I'm very familiar with Toddler and her girls but I don't go out of my way to read all her threads so of course I don't know every single piece of information.

I also haven't seen much judgement on here from anyone except those who expect everyone to know everything about Toddler's situation.

@YetAnotherSpartacus

I read on the litter tray sometimes, I haven’t a clue who anyone is. I’m not into mumsnetters who think they’re Queen bee types on here or their followers.

Your comment of ‘Everyone who matters understood’ sounded ridiculous, and for the OP to agree saying ‘precisely’ was very, very cliquey. Imagine thinking you’re some sort of famous name on mumsnet and thinking there are people who matter here and people who don’t. It’s a part of a forum full of random people talking about cats. 🤣🤣🤣

Toddlerteaplease · 08/09/2023 14:40

Bloody he'll I wish I'd never bothered posting now. So much Agro! I only wanted answers to a question!

Maybe don’t agree with someone who thinks some people on here matter more than others then. Ffs. 🤣🤣🤣

I had no idea who you are, but having AS, as I thought I was missing some celeb or something, you seem to put a lot of details about your life on here which maybe leads to your and other people’s impression of self importance on mumsnet. I was only shocked at the lack of online safety applied. Crazy.

Toddlerteaplease · 08/09/2023 15:20

I have absolutely no sense of self importance at all.

OP posts:
Toddlerteaplease · 08/09/2023 15:47

My cats are very well known on this board, that's all.

OP posts:
BackToOklahoma · 08/09/2023 16:18

I’m not sure that justifies agreeing with someone who says ‘Everyone who matters understood’.

Everyone matters, do they not Toddle?

No need for that sort of unkind, cliquey, self important queen bee and her followers type attitude on a board about cats. Everyone is free to post and there’s no one that matters more than others.

I hope your cat settles in well. These breeders are disgusting, using her body for money and then discarding her when she’s no use to them. May she have many happy and relaxing years with you.

Toddlerteaplease · 08/09/2023 16:20

I apologise to anyone who's offended. It wasn't my intention.

Seryse · 08/09/2023 16:24

The screeching for dick drove me absolutely BATSHIT. It got to the point where our girl (strictly indoor cat, we live right by a main road) would screaming pretty much all day for 5-7 days , then shed go off season for a day or 2 and right back in. We'd tried to get her spayed but the vet had a 6 week waiting list for it. Longest 6 weeks of my life 🤣 Luckily she only started spraying the last week before it and it was in the bathroom so was easy to clean and didn't leave a smell, we kept her in the bedroom with my daughter (she's 19, cat usually sleeps in her room with her anyways, litter box is in there, gets fed there etc but wanders thw house during the day usually) as she has laminate flooring which we were changing soon anyways. I felt sorry for the poor cat, I'm ashamed to say the week before it I did shout to shut up a few times, then felt terrible about it as its not her fault, stopped at the fishmongers on the way home from work that day and got her some salmon to say sorry 😅

Puppylucky · 08/09/2023 16:29

Leave Toddler alone for God's sake! This is just a ridiculous take down of a particularly inoffensive poster . People who post particularly regularly do get to know each other and I have never seen OP act like a queen bee - the only mistake she made was thinking that she was posting amongst friends which is clearly not the case anywhere on MN anymore.

Edited

Nobody's "taken her down" - people are just saying not everyone will know the backstory and it's not fair to assume they will (then jump on them when they get it wrong).

Puppylucky · 08/09/2023 17:05

Saying that she's a queen bee and thinks she's a celeb feels like a takedown to me

Well, the attitude of some posters earlier in the thread certainly gave it that kind of feel, really. Like if you don't know the back story, you may as well not bother responding as you don't matter anyway.

It's not very...welcoming.

Toddlerteaplease · 08/09/2023 17:18

@Seryse apparently the heat can make them come into season. As there had been a delay in her arrival, I hope that I might have missed it. I tried to book her in provisionally, so at least she has a slot. But they want to do it when they actually see her. Hopefully it'll be done within a week.

OP posts:
Toddlerteaplease · 08/09/2023 17:18

If my usual vet can't do it quickly, I'll shop round and take her anywhere that will. My parents vet are pretty good.

OP posts:
pickledandpuzzled · 08/09/2023 17:26

I'm in and out. Not a regular here. The cliquey judgemental posters here are the ones that lectured OP before asking about the circumstances.

That was where the aggro started, not with the defence of OP.

mostlydrinkstea · 08/09/2023 17:34

One of my old girls sprayed after she was done. She might have been just odd.

I kept one of my foster kittens during lock down and we only knew she had come into heat at 4 months when one of the other girls started to get interested. Foster fail was straight to the vet and it took weeks to find a slot where she was not actually on heat and the vet had space on his list to do the spay. Good luck. Your new cat looks gorgeous.

PhilippePhiloppe · 07/09/2023 13:44

I just think if they’ve made their money from her, they at least owe her a decent retirement.

One of my past cats was a Bengal ex breeding queen. Who I got on pets4homes before I knew of its reputation for dodginess. I just felt she was really being very badly treated having had multiple litters, to then be turned out.

My son got his cat from there and she was an absolute sweetheart. He was glad to give her a good home.

CurlewKate · 08/09/2023 17:48

Getting cats spayed/neutered is a hobby horse of mine-so I will always say something. If the OP or someone had said something about the backstory, -even just "can you check my other thread"- I would have been suitably apologetic. But "Everyone that matters understood" followed by "precisely" was just so dismissive. This isn't a private club!

Toddlerteaplease · 08/09/2023 17:52

I don't understand why the current owner wouldn't get her done, as soon as she's retired. Surely it makes like easier for everyone, and is nicer for the cat. Having had two very damaged ex breeding queens. I'm hoping this one has been better treated.

The cynical part of me would say that once she was past her usefulness as a prize-winner and breeding queen, the owner didn't want to spend any more money on her Sad

I agree - unfortunately lots of breeders don't care about their cats once they're no longer making them money.

Not all breeders, obviously, before I get jumped on Wink
