How much of a problem are unspayed girls?

Penelope is not yet spayed, I have just discovered that they can spray. Are they as bad as male cats. I really don't want her doing it all over the house. Obviously she'll be done asap.

You'll have millions of kittens!

Toddlerteaplease · 06/09/2023 11:45

@HoliHormonalTigerLillyTheSecond I do hope not!! The rescue can keep her if she's pregnant!

Awful. Spaying ours was delayed due to Covid. You know what's was than being stuck in lockdown? Stuck in lockdown with horny cats...

I didn't post the back story as I only expected people who knew me, in this board to post.

The rescue know me very well. I've had all my cats from them. And have driven all round the country to pick up and transport cats.

The cat is not in the rescue yet. She's coming straight from the breeder to me, on a foster to adopt basis.

I will get her into the vet to be spayed as soon as I possibly can. She has a vets appointment on Friday night.

Maybe you should have put that in your title then - this is a public message board after all.

You know the rules Toddler- let’s be seeing her!

Toddlerteaplease · 06/09/2023 22:18

I'll post plenty of pictures don't worry.

@sashh was the housemate disturbed or the cat?!! 😂

Housemate, the cat is female.

AmandaHoldensLips · 07/09/2023 01:48

First season, she turned into a Jezebel, shouted the house down, fell in love with DH and was ordering negligés off the internet.

She may be spraying because she is stressed with the move and needs to mark her territory. My girl did this when we took in another girl and it continued for a few weeks and was focussed on the curtains. She didn’t do it when we took in another boy. Mine was already spayed so I don’t think that is necessarily the issue for you (but there are other reasons why I know you will have her spayed). I hope she settles for you.

@DaughterNo2 Toddler has been posting about her female cats in the Litter Tray for some years. Spraying is pretty uncommon behaviour in female cats (speaking having had 7 females over the years)

One of my two rescue girls sprays sometimes. She was spayed before we adopted her nearly a year and a half ago. She seems to spray when upset after an altercation with our other cat, but other than that, we can't identify a reason! She just pissed on my DD1's bed tonight. Only reason we can think of is that the other cat loves to sleep there.

At a loss to know what to do about it!! The two cats don't really get on. They tolerate each other at best. Younger one (sprayer!) we think wants to play with the older one, and she's not having it. They can sleep in the same room now.

I've had cats all my life, and never had another female who sprayed...

I knew a priest with a cat called Jezabel. Such a cool name for a cat. I have seriously considered it for Penelope.

Is she a breeding queen they’re now putting to rescue because she’s finished with breeding? I think it’s just awful when breeders do that :(

Toddlerteaplease · 07/09/2023 03:23

@PhilippePhiloppe I presume so. Better than selling her on a dodgy website though.

I just think if they’ve made their money from her, they at least owe her a decent retirement.

One of my past cats was a Bengal ex breeding queen. Who I got on pets4homes before I knew of its reputation for dodginess. I just felt she was really being very badly treated having had multiple litters, to then be turned out.

Blimey, when did the Litter Tray topic become such a bitchy clique?

I'm sure it used to be nice and friendly to all.

Toddlerteaplease · 07/09/2023 16:47

@TheSpottedZebra yes I wondered the same! Really unusual for this board.

OP posts:
TheSpottedZebra · 07/09/2023 16:52

^ But you joined in with it!

>Everyone who matters understood.

To which you replied, 'Precisely'.

I've had so much support with my various cats from this board that it's awful to think of someone being chased away like that.

Yarnysaurus · 07/09/2023 17:45

There have always been established communities within the non-generalist topic boards. They're not cliques, they're posters who don't name change much and get to know each other and, here, each others cats too. It's lovely. I've always found it a real bonus of being on MN, and I kinda miss it it now I'm a regular name-changer.

Toddlerteaplease · 07/09/2023 17:57

I've never name changed! I posted at 3am so I think the post was picked up my non regular litter tray posters. And it was my fault for not putting in the back story.

Did you miss this message?

Someone being told that they don't matter?
On the Litter Tray?

I've also been here years without name changing. Is that a flex?
And that message, and the agreeing with it, was bitchy, for no reason.

Anyway, Toddler, enjoy Penelope. Hope you have many happy years with her, and wishing you no spraying.

Toddlerteaplease · 07/09/2023 18:29

@TheSpottedZebra thanks. Her arrival is delayed at the minute as the rescue lady's childcare has fallen through. So trying to arrange another date. Am a bit gutted!

OP posts:
Alycidon · 07/09/2023 18:35

Oh, Toddler, I am a long-term follower of your cats so I knew this would be about the not-yet-arrived Penelope - but I also guessed people would be jumping on to lecture you about spaying.😂

CurlewKate · 07/09/2023 18:42

@YetAnotherSpartacus "Everyone who matters understood."

Where do I apply for my permit to post about cats?

BackToOklahoma · 08/09/2023 06:51

Everyone who matters understood

Wow! And then for the OP to answer this shitty comment with ‘precisely’. 😅

There is definitely a cliquey feel to this board at times and it’s those posters that make it unpleasant. It’s a section about cats on a public forum, ‘everyone who matters understood’...🤣 ffs.
