Keep your paws crossed that Penelope (also to be known as Pickle) will be right for Cheddar and arrive soon.
I'm a bit confused by her story, but she's an ex show cat. So hopefully will be healthy.
She's not yet in the rescue so we do t k ow her personality. But from what I've seen as show cats. They are pretty docile.

The rescue told me about her when O told them of Magic's death. And when I got to work that night. We had a patient called Penelope. So I take it as a sign!

I'm trying to speed it up a bit but the rescue is busy.

Problem is when they loose them under the furniture! You spend your life retrieving the bloody things.

Oh, well, they'd be company for the million wine corks which my cats have batted under there over the years.

Stupid question, but where could I buy pingpong balls these days?

Sports shop? Or toy shop like Smythes?

Actually Argos sell them but ebay is probably cheaper.

If you don't have carpets a bit of penne pasta can have similar effects. Must admit our little girl found those balls a bit frightening but was willing to kill a foil ball made from a large easter egg packaging. Apparently it was better than scrunched kitchen foil. We were more than happy to accommodate her request and binged ate every Easter 😂

mildlydispeptic · 25/10/2023 21:10

My cats love tin foil balls, rolled really tight.

This is true.
I used to keep pet rats. I would let them out to keep me company in the living room. The problem then is losing the actual rats under the furniture, and trying to coax them out. Thankfully, some rats (especially females) are clever enough that you can train them to come when you call them.

Toddlerteaplease · 26/10/2023 09:45

Apparently they haven't been fed for a year.

Poor neglected things :)

LostCats · 26/10/2023 11:02

Ahahaha!! The look on Cheddar’s face! And Penelope is actually shouting at you! She’s at home now isn’t she ❤️

Toddlerteaplease · 26/10/2023 11:29

Penelope is very vocal. She greets me with a squeak. And going into the kitchen is just like it was with Magic shouting at me demanding treats. Cheddar did eat to quick and puked on the carpet though.
Cheddar seems much more active. And was playing with a tennis ball this morning. I've ordered some of those spring things. And will go and buy a wand toy.

Ah, I do look forward to these updates. I too have a very squeaky grey girl cat. Glad to hear Cheddar's on good form too.

Toddlerteaplease · 26/10/2023 22:41

I bought some of the springs that @RumNotRun suggested and Cheddar loves them. Don't think the tiny Trent has discovered them yet.

My mum had 3 rescued ex breeding Persians. The only thing they ever played with was the scrunched up silver paper from my Dad's cigarette packets.

They would wait when he opened a new pack and play "fetch". That's a good memory that this thread has just brought back to me, thank you

Toddlerteaplease · 27/10/2023 03:42

I do t think that Persians are particularly bothered about playing in general. It would involve effort!

I'm glad Cheddar enjoys the springs 😁 I'm sure I first discovered them from someone on here so it's like a MN Pay It Forward

Toddlerteaplease · 27/10/2023 11:02

I walked into the bedroom to find them both on the bed giving me daggers. Unfortunately I didn't have my phone handy to get a picture. Not sure what my crime was. 😂

It might not have been recent. Cheddar was probably giving Pickle the low down on your past misdemeanours.

Toddlerteaplease · 27/10/2023 19:50

I must be forgiven then. She's sitting on my chest. Unfortunately my mug of tea is out of reach!

@Toddlerteaplease this is the only time the rule about not moving because the cat is sitting on you can be broken. In my book, anyway BrewBrew Of course, there is the danger that, in the meantime, said cat re-locates to the nice warm space on the sofa you just got up from...

Peace reigns for now...

I think you are all doing really well in the circumstances. I know it's stressful but you are all learning to get on with each other really well. Penelope seems to be enjoying her new house and human and Cheddar seems to be sharing pretty well. Every relationship is going to be different. Your updates are great.

FutureThroughLensOfThePast · 27/10/2023 23:47

My two can run round scrapping all day and then curl up next to each other just like Cheddar and Pickle.

SequentialAnalyst · 28/10/2023 01:03

When I have a spare moment I will find the film I took, now digitised, which shows my DM's cat Penny playing rough and tumble with her close friend Cuddles, a neutered male. Fur flies! But no-one gets hurt! They are having the time of their lives, and this was a regular occurrence. That's what litter mates do - they playfight. (I think in their feline minds they thought of each other as siblings, though they weren't related.)

Toddlerteaplease · 28/10/2023 04:22

Cheddar and Magic very rarely say that close together. And I'm sure Penelope was giving her a groom earlier. She certainly had her face buried in Cheddar's side. Because Penelope is so little, Cheddar walks over her.

Went to get a collar tag engraved for madam. As still waiting for her chip to be transferred to me. And the bloke asked if I could shorten her name as it's too big for their smallest tag. Penelope is already highly offended that she needs a kitten collar. And kitten flea treatment.

That is a brilliant picture to get after such a short time! I wouldn't be surprised if you find them even closer in the colder winter months 😉

Please tell Cheddar she is being amazing ❤
