Keep your paws crossed that Penelope (also to be known as Pickle) will be right for Cheddar and arrive soon.
I'm a bit confused by her story, but she's an ex show cat. So hopefully will be healthy.
She's not yet in the rescue so we do t k ow her personality. But from what I've seen as show cats. They are pretty docile.

The rescue told me about her when O told them of Magic's death. And when I got to work that night. We had a patient called Penelope. So I take it as a sign!

I'm trying to speed it up a bit but the rescue is busy.

Hi Toddler
How's she getting on with Cheds?

Scampuss · 16/10/2023 23:53

Toddlerteaplease · 16/10/2023 23:19

My sister has also decided that she's going to call her Sea Potato. 🙄

She was all over my mum last night. I haven't seen her!

Your sister loves to give your cats mean names, Toddler! She needs to read one of the threads here about family members refusing to use the right name. Good news about Penelope setting in so well though.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 17/10/2023 09:57

I still prefer Pickle as a name. Sounds like she might get into a few...

Toddlerteaplease · 17/10/2023 10:44

Apparently the reason for 'Sea Potato' is because she came across walrus with the same name. Still it's an improvement on Walrus Walruson.
Can now honestly say that I do love her now. Wasn't feeling it before.thought she is very cute and sweet. But 'fake it till you make it' has worked

It was the moment I walked into to the bathroom to find her sitting in the sink. 🥰🥰

That's lovely, Toddler. It's true that Penelope does look very irresistible in the sink. I wonder how she will react when you take her to the groomers, but perhaps being an ex show cat she won't mind.

Toddlerteaplease · 17/10/2023 11:08

She won't need to go to the groomer. She adores being brushed. Hoping she'll be fairly cooperative with claw clipping as well. But she's as slippery as an eel when you pick her up.

I particularly wanted an exotic to avoid grooming bills.

If she was a showcat, did she used to have baths before shows, and therefore likes themShock?
If not, then perhaps she just likes spa pamper days.
My only other theory is that what you have is a mer-cat.

Toddlerteaplease · 17/10/2023 17:51

She may well have done. She absolutely adores being brushed. I think Magic secretly quite liked being bathed. She liked being snuggled in a towel afterwards. Not that she would admit it. Cheddar will put her paws on the side of the bath. But absolutely would not entertain being on the side or in it.

One of my favourite pictures of Cheddar is her looking on at you in the bath @Toddlerteaplease

I've had Penelope a month tomorrow. There is still a bit of growling and chasing. It that normal
At this stage? I've put a barrier between good bowls and they were eating side by side yesterday. And no litter tray issues.

OP posts:
Scampuss · 17/10/2023 23:25

Totally normal.

Defiantlynot41 · 18/10/2023 00:07

@Toddlerteaplease yes, that one. The look of concern on her little face

As for growling/minor spats - 100% normal at this stage

Toddlerteaplease · 18/10/2023 09:32

My mum
Keeps telling me that Cheddar is intimidating her. She is a little. At times. But Penelope seems not bothered!

Are you going to go ahead with the adoption Toddlerteaplease? I do hope so!

SequentialAnalyst · 18/10/2023 15:01

I should imagine there will always be the odd spat. Think of them as being like siblings.

I have a younger brother, and I was a horrid bossy older sister. Now DB tries to tell me what to do Wink

Toddlerteaplease · 18/10/2023 16:11

@Bagpuss1200 she was officially adopted on the 5.10. The day her ears got the all clear. And we discovered her teeth are actually fine!

She's been pretty good with the extra people in the house. But I think she'll be glad they've gone!

There is a little known breed of cat similar to the Norwegian Forest cat: the Mexican Water cat. Penelope must have one in her family tree. Signs include sitting adorably in the bathroom sink.

Allergictoironing · 18/10/2023 18:27

"Proper" growling at each other with mine took about 3-4 months to die down properly, though Tobias does this cute sort of growly noise when he is playing especially with Girlcat. He's quite happy, does it when he's playing on his own with a toy as well, just his voice I think. That, or he used to smoke 40 a day when he was a street cat!

She definitely bullies him slightly, but a) she's the incumbent, b) she's older and c) she's the Queen (in both senses of the word).

Toddlerteaplease · 18/10/2023 22:27

She's just wrapped her paw round my finger and put it in her mouth and given it a gentle bite. I had just told her that she needs her claws clipping though.
