National Cat Day on Sunday? When is it not cat day? The tribe certainly expect to be worshipped and their every whim catered for on every day of the year. When is National Cat Slave Day!

Came here to say this. Every day is national flipping cat day in our house.

I've just discovered that it is National Black Cat Day tomorrow. I shall post pictures of the moggies in the morning.
So it does indeed appear that every day is a cat celebration of some sort.

It has been an eventful day chez Shell Beach.

Morning - Picard was yet again removed by his irate owner

Afternoon - Suzy hissed and growled at Mr SB for unknown reasons

Evening - Linney got shut in our walk-in cupboard by accident for 20 mins

Bit of a dilemma re feeding at Allergic Towers, suggestions welcomed.

Vet advised that maybe Tobias could lose just a tiny bit of weight; in other words he's a fat chonk & needs to cut down. Girlcat has always maintained her weight just right bar the blip when she was sharing Renal food with Boycat, and has lost nearly all of that.

So I kept the dry out ad lib, and reduced the wet from 2.5 pouches a day between them to 2, then tried reducing it further to 1.5 (which is what Boycat & Girlcat used to have before he got ill).

But now Tobias, who tended to be more a wet food kinda guy, has started tucking in to the dry at a vast rate of knots. I can't not have the dry out all the time as Girlcat, who is mostly a dry food eater, is also a grazer. No diving in & cleaning the bowl out for her, even with wet food she used to eat a bit, wander off & come back a couple of hours later etc, and I reckon on a typical day she will eat a small amount 6-8 times.

They are already on Indoor dry food (so lower calorie), and I've yet to find a treat Tobias really goes for so he isn't getting much if any in the way of extras except the odd scrap of ham every few days.

So lovely ladies, Grumpy & TC's Dad, I was thinking of going back up to the 2 pouches of wet a day between them, and hope that will curb Tobias's new found enthusiasm for dry food a bit - what do you reckon?

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 27/10/2023 08:45

Hi Allergic
Can't help much I'm afraid - ours are all grazers and I have no idea how I'd ever manage to separate food out for them if I had to. I think I'd have a riot on my hands.
I think it is worth increasing the pouches, but now Tobias has a taste for dry food as well as wet I suspect he'll continue on both. My sister's cat had a very bad start in life and as a result was very food focused - she did turn into a bit of a barrel.
There are worse things than a fat cat 😻

YetAnotherSpartacus · 27/10/2023 08:54

I have the same problem ... I was considering a microchip-operated bowl but am worried that it will simply be added to the pile of broken or unused cat paraphernalia.

Defiantlynot41 · 27/10/2023 08:54

Happy Black Cat day everyone

And a happy black cat day too 😻.
I've started a thread on the subject.

I feel that Karl's tail is looking particularly lush today in celebration.

That tail looks a completely different colour to the rest of him, Grumpy!

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 27/10/2023 09:52

My black cats do seem to specialise in russet coloured extremities 🤣

Defiantlynot41 · 27/10/2023 10:07

One of mine (the wide one on my earlier photo Smile) is going very russet-ish. Also has an increasing number of white whiskers. The other, her litter mate has all black whiskers, no russet and still looks like a kitten at 17

@Allergictoironing two pouches a day between them? I think my lot would eat me alive if I cut them down to the equivalent. The greedy buggers have basically a whole can each a day plus dry food that is permanently down. Only Raven is a chunky monkey though, the rest are slim.

Sadly Tobias is very chunky though. Front end is OK, but he just gets wider and wider the further back you go. If you see him from behind when he's sitting down, he's almost pyramid proportions with the bum at least 3 times wider than the head & shoulders.

Girlcat, at a little over 4.5 kg & the late lamented Boycat of 6 kg, were both lean (and Girlcat still is), just tall and long. Tobias is clearly smaller than Girlcat both length & height, but weighs the same as her, and it certainly isn't just his build!
