Stop chasing shrews, mice and birds and join us here.
Less well-behaved cats especially welcome.

Oh bless his heart! That is heartbreaking.
But maybe, if he is acknowledging that he wants that, maybe in time it could come? And what a special and wonderful day that will be

That's my hope, that eventually he will come round.

But as Yet said, I had similar with Boycat & Girlcat when they came. In fact if anything he's a bit ahead of them - 6 months before I could stroke Girlcat & Boycat was at least a further 6-12 month later. Main difference is that I never had the wistful looks from the other 2!

Utterbunkum · 24/10/2023 18:42

@Grumpyoldpersonwithcats mine does, and he is a very similar type of cat to yours. I wonder if it is for extra traction to squeeze one out...

Bloody hope not - he was sitting on the kitchen table when I took the photo 🤣.

Supersimkin2 · 24/10/2023 20:27

Havelock does paw spreading too. Makes room for a fresh nutritional opportunity. And several past ones.

those shoes are sheepskin fit flops 🤤 £129 but £30 in tk maxx at weekend - given how abandonedly cosy they are they should be hideous, nay genuinely upsetting, but irl they’re handsome.

Tobias - he’s learning, Allergic. Bet he’s in bed with you by Crimbles.

Allergictoironing · 24/10/2023 21:20

Crimbles which year? 😆

ImNotWorthy · 25/10/2023 03:22

IMHO it's not proper male-spreading unless there is a clear view of the crutch area, so to me this would not count, I'm afraid, @Grumpyoldpersonwithcats.

I am in two minds about whether, in addtion, the male has to be intact.

Thankfully, men on tube-trains wear clothesGrin

Ah, the joys of an ex stray becoming an indoor cat!

For a treat (and 'cause it's good for them) I put out a fresh growing of cat grass, first one to go out fresh since Tobias became a downstairs regular.

Partly because it helps the grass grow better, and partly because it makes the cleaning easier, I line the bowl with that fibre matting used for hanging baskets before adding the grass seeds & stuff. This means it's easy to just remove in one lump once the grass has died & chuck it in the bin, then just chuck the bowl in the dishwasher. Done it this way since the first cats moved in. Start it off in the kitchen, then put it out for the cats when there's a fair bit of browth.

Unfortunately I have come down this morning to find that this method also means that chunky tabby and white boys can also easily remove the matting with grass attached! He'd managed to pull the entire mass out of the bowl onto the floor next to it - good thing I have laminate flooring in that room!

YetAnotherSpartacus · 25/10/2023 07:58

Basil looks like he is positioning himself to throw up six pints and two whisky chasers followed by a greasy kebab and a deep-fried Mars Bar.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 25/10/2023 09:03

Spartacus Brilliant! 🤣🤣🤣

Utterbunkum · 25/10/2023 09:56

@Grumpyoldpersonwithcats sorry, didn't explain, I meant they do it in the tray and then it sort of develops into an habitual sitting pose, rather than 'he is about to dump on your table' 🤣. Thinking about it more, though, it may be that some cats are more broad chested than others. Our last cat was a tiny, delicate little lady and she sat like a prim little miss, feet together. Mind you, she could walk on the mantle piece disturbing nothing. Our current big bruiser is about as delicate as a steam roller. Fortunately he doesn't walk on shelves or anything, because he is such a blunderbuss. If even one thing is on the coffee table, when he lands on it that one thing is gone.

Kitten escape

Corduroy is an excellent escape artist. She's getting too big to do it for much longer.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 25/10/2023 19:58

Waves hello to Garfield. Big lad - Maine Coon?

Corduroy's Houdini exploits are marvellous 🤣

What a beauty he is. Welcome, Garfield.

TheShellBeach · 25/10/2023 21:01

Hello Garfield. You're a big fella.

And Corduroy is a little rascal.

ImNotWorthy · 25/10/2023 21:25

@efp198 That is some cat!

Papergirl1968 · 25/10/2023 21:41

Corduroy 's exploits remind me of when we took Matt on holiday and went out, leaving him in a borrowed dog crate. Just in case he escaped from the self catering house or wrecked the furniture.
We came back to find him smugly out of the crate and have no idea how he did it - but he was far too fat to have squeezed through the bars. The crate was put away for the remainder of the holiday...
Garfield is very fluffy, especially his tail!

ImNotWorthy · 25/10/2023 22:09

What a lovely article, clearly written by someone who understands the cat/slave relationship. And it also mentions that it's National Cat Day on Sunday.

From that photo, it looks as if those cats and their slave depot workers may have mastered of the art of cat yodelling. They are certainly holding the cats in yodelling positions...

Supersimkin2 · 25/10/2023 23:36

Max and Ginge are adorable. So are the railway guys, sniff.

efp198 · 26/10/2023 04:50

Yup, I think he’d fit in well here. He ignores dogs (largely including his dogs that live with him), and likes to lie in cat mint plants so that he can get immersed in the smell. He could definitely do some bouncer work.

National Cat Day on Sunday? When is it not cat day? The tribe certainly expect to be worshipped and their every whim catered for on every day of the year. When is National Cat Slave Day!
