....... calling all the excellent cats from the last thread.

Stop chasing shrews, mice and birds and join us here.
Less well-behaved cats especially welcome.

My foster kittens are growing nicely. I had to bring them for a check up yesterday and I was like a very proud mummy indeed.

Look at this chunk of a kitten. His sister seems to have the brains, he just eats and sleeps. She has already tried to escape the cage.

I have obviously failed in my slave duty this morning (a slice of roast turkey was not good enough) and dcat 2 has just caught her own lunch - a large mouse 🐁! At 17 I really thought those days were over. Her sister was interested (but not interested enough to fend for herself, obviously)

Perhaps there is a cat Deliveroo?

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 19/10/2023 14:43

@TheLongRider - definitely more like a kitten (rather than a baby tiger) now. 🐯
Very cute.

Oh look at him!

Have you named them?

Linney is not happy.

The bin men came and replaced our bin in a slightly different place in the front garden.

Linney is miaowing at it and walking round the garden, clearly puzzled.

@ImNotWorthy - yes it's me! I have been known to provide room service to the pair of them at various times, especially when DCat1 had pancreatitis (boiled cod and minced prawns) and when DCat2 dropped to 2.4 kg after an illness - that's when I discovered that Lick e lix have 8 calories each, which is a good supplement!

TheLongRider · 19/10/2023 14:55

Their names are Cotton and Corduroy as per the shelter. This is sister Corduroy fast asleep. She looks more like a tiger than he does.

@TheLongRider those kittens are exquisite

Supersimkin2 · 19/10/2023 15:26

Terribly terribly perfect.

Lovely names, Cotty and Cord.

I wants em.

I had in mind a cat Deliveroo for the delivery of actual live mice to the <ahem> older (and wiser, if a queen) feline. Perhaps Dominos would be a better equivalentWink?

Defiantlynot41 · 19/10/2023 15:41

Ah, understood, @ImNotWorthy. They are both the same age, litter mates although not terribly fond of each other, both female. This board was super supportive when they both went through illnesses - our last cat lived to 20 so we are used to the foibles of oldies (and daily dosing of thyroid meds)

ImNotWorthy · 19/10/2023 15:59

Midnight lived till about 21. She had kidney failure, which I knew would only progress. We worked out a deal between us, which involved prawns being exchanged for swallowing a pill at about the 3rd attempt. As prawns are high protein, they were a restricted food, but of course she loved prawns as much as the next creature i.e. me. Considering she was a cat, having to take a pill a day, I was pretty impressed.

Just remembered the second half of this story. Before establishing the Prawn Exchange, I had tried in vain hiding pillls, grinding them up (check with vet whether this is allowable with the particular med), all to no avail. DCat went to spend a few days with Ex. Who ground up the pills and put them in her food. And guess what? It workedHmm. So I continued with this successfully when she returned. And prawns became a treat again, purely and simply Smile

Your foster kittens are amazing TheLongRider. Cotton and Corduroy are great names - well done to the rescue!

Just wonder if everyone in Scotland - Shell and perhaps some other Litter Tray denizens are ok. I suspect Linney is going to be even more dissatisfied with the location of the wheelie bin tomorrow.

Linney's dissatisfaction reminds me of the time I was cat sitting for my friends. I realised late in the evening that I had not packed very well and was about to run out of clean clothes. The washing machine was spinning noisily as the cat came in through the cat flap. He looked at the washing machine in disgust, then looked at me with even greater derision as if to say, 'you really should have sorted your laundry earlier'. He is like one of those posters on Mumsnet who when someone asks about tidying something tells them they should never have let it get into a mess in the first place!

TheShellBeach · 19/10/2023 20:48

Hi @nettie434 so far we're okay although the worst of the weather is on the east side of Scotland. We're in the west.
The bin will undoubtedly fall over in the night. It always does when it gets really windy here.
Linney will look at it with disapproval.

Binmen returning the bin to your GARDEN, rather than leaving it on the pavement (where we have to put it out before 7am) somewhere vaguely near your house usually on the correct side of the road???? What is this nirvana, surely just a fantasy world!

Ha!
We live in sheltered housing.

When we were 60, we lived in London in a flat. We had a terrible landlord.
It transpired that he'd neglected to get planning permission for the extension on the house, so we were threatened with eviction. (He was told to restore the house to its pre-extension glory.)

Then we did actually get the eviction notice.

We'd always planned to retire to Scotland anyway, so I applied to Argyll & Bute Council, and they offered us this bungalow. We hadn't asked for sheltered housing, but it was the first place that came up. We were eligible because we were sixty.

It only took them six weeks to offer us the house. We were really lucky.

So we packed our stuff, stuck our two cats in the back seat in their carriers, and drove for eleven hours to get here.

The cats at that time were McVicar and Buster. They died in 2021, which is when we got Linney and Emerald.

Cat Deliveroo is me here. No tip.

Staggered back in just now after a day of good works, buggered about, served high tea to Prince, collapsed on lovely warm sofa, nice fluffy cushion. Cuppa. Perfect.

Cushion bit me and flounced next door in outrage.

Because of the severe weather warnings here in Scotland, Mr SB decided that it would be prudent to put a strong waterproof covering over the garden chair, and stick a brick on top of it to hold it down. This has created a fairly large, temporary tent-like structure next to the plant pots.

Guess who has spent the best part of two days asleep under it? And no, Linney does not appear in this photograph because he is under the green canopy.

I don't get soaked.
I just look out of the window and watch Mr SB getting soaked.

Today Basil is avoiding the rain, and won't even go outside to sit under some random bit of tarpaulin. Instead, he is staying inside waiting to slap innocent passers-by through the banisters.

Grumpy I'm so jealous.
You manage to get such interesting pictures of your many cats.
Maybe we just need to move to a bigger house.
