These seats are also very good for 'prawning'.

Delighted to hear that 🤣.

Just drove through Fort William where Mr SB made his usual boast about having climbed Ben Nevis.

@LostCats Cheddar will only got on my egg chair if I'm on it. The swinging freaks her out

ImNotWorthy · 09/10/2023 12:23

For one moment there I thought to myself "I'll track @TheShellBeach on FlightRadar24" like I track the DC going on holiday Grin

Any predictions as to other routine boasts from Mr.SB coming up on the journey? eg "If you think this is bad, you should try driving [insert long route here]" Also, have you had a spam roll yet? Do they have mayo in?

Edited

All due respect to Mr SB, but I think I was about 10 maybe 11 the first time I went up Ben Nevis. It's not really climbing anyway more hill walking, there are mostly tracks and some rougher parts near the top.

I agree it is a tough hill walk for anyone not used to doing such things, but maybe not worth boasting about every time? 😜

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 09/10/2023 12:40

Whenever Mrs Grumpy and I have driven our kids past Ben Nevis we 'comment' on the fact that we climbed it (when we younger and fitter, and thinner, and childless). So I can't blame Mr SB for 'reminding' you.

And yeah, I do know it's a hill walk rather than mountain climbing, but it's still long and steep (and knackering). 😁

Have had two spam rolls.
Have had tea from flask.

Currently beside the uninspiringly-named Loch Lochy.

Have not yet informed Mr SB that I neglected to pack his famous binoculars.

Ooh!!
A random cat has just avoided being flattened by a milk tanker in front of us.

Phew - another one of his lives lost.

Ha - Roamin' In The Gloamin' has just come on. Very apt.

We have a USB stick which contains all our favourite pieces of music.

I've deleted all the crap of Mr SB's which I don't like

We always look out for boaty-mc boat face when we drive by Loch Lochy.

This is just Allergic's sly way of saying she's climbed Ben Nevis five hundred times.

At least.

Thank you for that, @ImNotWorthy

I have lost count of the number of times I've mistaken Loch Lochy for Loch Loch.

Only twice 😁 and Snowdon about 4 times I think - and no I never cheated with Snowdon taking the train, always walked both up & down.

Including a rather interesting time one late May Bank Holiday. Started up with "proper" hill walking kit on, watching others in typical summer holiday clothing (sandals/flip flops, shorts, summer tops & no jackets, pushing wheelchairs etc). We were getting quite close to the top when the hail and sleet storm struck us! We'd gone for one of the more "interesting" paths up, which back then involved a sort of scramble along the top edge of a ridge as well. So glad I had a waterproof coat and gloves that day, and even more glad the cafe at the top was open. Then we saw this bunch of young, healthy looking people coming wearing shorts & vest tops - it was the local mountain rescue raising funds and they had LEAPFROGGED their way up!

Well they were just boasting, Allergic.

There were plenty who had made the walk up that day through the weather, though none of the ones who hadn't got decent gear on. It's a good walk as long as you're equipped properly. But those Mountain Rescue guys!!! Then of course there was the guy who hauled a grand piano up there (think it was Bryn Terfel the singer), and of course there's always the annual race up Snowdon..... (eek)

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 09/10/2023 15:45

@Allergictoironing.
If the good Lord had intended people to walk up Snowdon he wouldn't have invented rack and pinion railways. I've been up and down on the train a few times. 🤣
I'm fairly sure that someone drove up Ben Nevis in a Ford Model T some time before WW1. He clearly had style!

Allergictoironing · 09/10/2023 15:54

Used to like hill walking, did loads with my father before he died. We'd go away on holiday & end up wherever (often based on a coin toss at motorway intersections), B&B it & do hill walking, going round castles & stately homes etc., always just out of season. Even walked the Samaria Gorge on Crete one year with a friend.

Now of course due to bloody arthritis half a mile on pavements is near enough impossible 😢

ImNotWorthy · 09/10/2023 16:17

@Allergictoironing
Sadly the penalty for sport and hill walking (and repetitive physical work) is often osteo-arthritis in later lifeSad (but also the rewards sometimes include longer lifeSmile).
Even my DB has to rest his golfing elbow out of season now he's getting on Grin His other sport is watching football!

But I bet you have loads of brilliant memories of places I have never been to Smile

TheShellBeach · 09/10/2023 16:21

Yay - we got here at 15.00 exactly.

I am getting better with the phone camera:

Yep - same here, after years of nursing and midwiff. Kneeling on the floor next to women giving birth has ruined my knee joints.
