Stop chasing shrews, mice and birds and join us here.
Less well-behaved cats especially welcome.

Basil is feeling very relaxed this afternoon. The combination of a sunny afternoon and a Molly's Mouse are obviously the key to a happy life.

I love seeing Basil so chilled.

Not quite like Girlcat used to curl up with Boycat, using him as a pillow, but getting closer by the day.

I should point out that they may have their own bedroom dedicated to their use, but as long as I'm not in it my bed seems to be their current preference

Allergic, it is a Cat Law that the human's bed must be used as often and as much as possible, even when expensive and luxurious cat beds have been provided b y the human for the cat(s) throughout the house.

Cats get bonus points for making sure there's no room for the actual human in the bed, too.

Ooh - Linney slept on our bed for a few minutes last night - he is getting braver.

Or maybe he'd heard about DS2's Bouncer Certificate

OP posts:
TheShellBeach · 07/10/2023 21:51

Oh dear - the damage to the roads, flooding, landslides and abominable rain here have meant that every single road we need to traverse in order to get to our destination has been closed.

These roads will need to be assessed by the Highways Agency on Monday.
Then they'll need to be repaired.

So that's our holiday kaput for this year. Dammitall.

And DS2 is still stuck here in the village, unable to get to Glasgow.
(There are no trains leaving Glasgow anyway at the moment)

I'm so sorry to hear that @TheShellBeach I heard ten people had to be airlifted after getting trapped by the landslides so I know it's bad up there.
Do you have insurance?

ImNotWorthy · 07/10/2023 22:38

@TheShellBeach
I have just finished watching the BBC News Shock
Good grief...

Yes. That could've been me and Mr SB. The airlifting happened five miles further on from where the police turned us back.

Gulp.

OP posts:
TheShellBeach · 07/10/2023 22:57

And no, we didn't have insurance. In any case, extreme weather is always a policy exclusion, I think.

Still - there's always next year!

However, one bit of good news.
I realised that the local Co-Op would run out of food by Monday (as no vehicles can possibly get through with supplies) so I sent DS2 down with a nice long shopping list soon after we returned to the house.

We won't starve, anyway.

@TheShellBeach my staples are Brew and Cake
Hope DS2 got what you wanted. Comfort food? Crisps?

There may have been ice cream, chocolate and Pringles on the list..........

Result! Grin Did DS2 have to fight anyone at the Co-op for these goodies Wink? Or was there enough to go round?

This might be of interest - it has links to photos and videos from today:

Bloody hell that sounds rough Shell.

Staying inside with ice cream, chocolate, Pringles and feline company sounds much the best bet.

Actually he did say that the queues were really long.

He should've offered his services as a fully qualified bouncer, to keep the old ladies in check.

🤣🤣🤣

This is very close to where we live and we would have been on this road if we'd got that far. Luckily, we didn't.

So sorry about your holiday plans being ruined, Shell. That's definitely a reason to splurge on Pringles and ice cream.

Papergirl1968 · 08/10/2023 11:09

That Twitter footage is horrifying, Shell.
Try to think of it as a lucky escape and have a holiday at home with Netflix, treats, and the added bonus of DS.

TheShellBeach · 08/10/2023 13:33

Oh Grumpy! The second photo, "getting ready to jump on the table" is wonderful.

OP posts:

I've written so many posts recently which did not contain a cat picture that I'm feeling guilty, so although this one of Linney playing has appeared before, I thought I'd post it again.

Especially since I'm still having trouble using the camera on the new phone

DS2 says it's too clever for me - the cheek of it - I gave birth to him, and he makes opprobrious remarks about me.

Oh, and Mr SB thinks we should make a brave attempt to get to our holiday destination tomorrow, so we're setting off in the early morning, for
The Shell Beach Holiday Journey Mark 2

Apparently most of the roads are allegedly reasonably okay, although horrendous detours are in place. It has actually stopped raining now.

Ugh. I'd almost prefer to stay at home
