My car, Chris, is currently refusing to come in, resulting in me staying up later than I wanted to, to try get the arsehole in.
Yesterday he left me a mouse's arse- just the arse and hind legs- on the doorstep. That's trying to tell me something, right?

ThePlatypusAlwaysTriumphs · 08/09/2023 00:39

Nothing going on behind his eyes...

Not a great week chez Allergic. On the plus side, both cats are fit, well, healthy & enjoying life. Not so much their slave. I know it's not much compared to dying husbands & brain surgery, but I've had a shitty week.

Started out Monday when the car went in for an odd noise to be investigated - £300 bill plus heavy duty advisories regarding front suspension & other minor stuff. That lot will probably be in the upper hundreds to fix - on a 16 year old car with 80k on the clock. Luckily my lovely DBro & DSiL have offered to give me £5k towards a replacement i.e. I need to find another car for £5k asap which needs to be an auto.

Then Wednesday I went to the opticians. 8 months ago I went as my sight had got really bad over the past few months - cataract, and had gone from long to short sighted in a year. Got glasses etc, all fine for a bit then worse than before. Optometrist berated me for leaving it so long (the 5 week wait for an appt hadn't helped that!), and promptly referred me for cataract surgery at the private clinic that does NHS referrals. I have my pre-op assessment this morning!

So just waiting for the third minor disaster to strike!

LostCats · 08/09/2023 07:26

Oh Allergic!!! I’m so sorry. I hope the appointment goes ok this morning.
with much love from the LostCats house

LostCats · 08/09/2023 07:27

@ThePlatypusAlwaysTriumphs 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 that made me laugh so much.

Nettie - that’s awesome! If slightly horrific!

This is Russell. He is adoring the Indian Summer and watches insects for hours. When he sits like this you can waggle his paws and he likes it.

Russell is beautiful!

Oh @Allergictoironing so sorry for your dreadful week - seems bad stuff never get dished out in neat dollops for us to cope with but comes in a landslide at times.

LostCats · 08/09/2023 09:25

Another interesting night.
Heard a ‘ping ping’ coming from the bathroom at 3am. Sigh. Closed door when realised was coming from the metal bin. Assumed either a mahoosive spider or a cricket.
Got DH to empty the bin today. Was a mouse!!! Eko had brought a ‘friend’ in for a light snack the night before. Mouse had obviously been roaming for 24hrs! And managed to get himself neatly into an empty metal bin!!

Jowak1 · 08/09/2023 09:58

If you’re having your cataract done at Spa Medica I can highly recommend them. I had mine done a couple of weeks ago and it was all vary efficient. Lovely surgeon who discusses everything thoroughly with you and very friendly and caring nurses. So great to be able to see without contact lenses.

Jowak1 · 08/09/2023 14:19

@LostCats thank you 😊

Jowak1 · 08/09/2023 14:21

Beatrix has never brought a mouse in but she has brought two baby frogs 🐸 in the house playing with them!

Allergictoironing · 08/09/2023 18:41

Optegra @AppleDumplingWithCustard . They have the local NHS contract for doing cataracts.

Current NHS wait time 8-9 months, current Optegra wait time 4-6 weeks (that's as an NHS patient). But I've asked to go on the cancellation list as well, as October is a really busy month for me t work so I want to get it done asap. 1-2 weeks very little reading/screen work, up to 4 weeks no driving. But I can wfh if necessary, and will be having a discussion with the surgeon around screen work with a cover over the eye thay have done & just using the "good" eye.

I am having a Bad Day.

Horrible lunch in a very expensive hotel. That was bad enough.

Came home in a bad mood to discover that the washing I'd put on just before we left had been ruined because DH had YET AGAIN left a tissue in the pocket of some garment or other.

It was a dark wash (well of course it was) and I've told him a million times to check, but he's an idiot, and I'm Not Talking To Him as a result.

I actually told him to throw all the washing away, I was so angry.

TheShellBeach · 08/09/2023 19:02

........................and in the middle of the argument over the washing, we heard three cats miaowing angrily at one another, and looked a few doors down to see Linney, Picard and Suzy having a Mexican stand-off beside our car.

Eventually, Linney walked off in high dudgeon and Picard slunk off home.

Suzy curled up in a ball and went to sleep.

Raven was trying to emulate Leroy last night by being a long cat.

RumNotRun · 09/09/2023 09:20

Lenny not Leroy! Sorry.

Allergictoironing · 09/09/2023 17:42

Update on problem number 1 - my amazing DBro & DSiL came out with me today & bought me a replacement car! Obviously only a 2nd (or maybe 4th) hand one, but in much better nick than the collapsing Focus. So now the happy owner of a 10 plate Astra.

Plus, Tobias news is that not only did he let me stroke him during downstairs first supper last night, but he let me scritch round his neck & behind his ears, then let me have a quick stroke when we did upstairs supper! Of course all this progress will be put back when I take him for his MoT & jabs in a few weeks....

Papergirl1968 · 09/09/2023 18:48

Congratulations on your new car and your progress with Tobias, Allergic. I hope you get your cataract (or should that be cat-aract?) done soon.
And hope you're having a better day, ShellBeach? The cat Mexican stand off made me lol!
Matt has a yowl that would wake the dead, which I basically interpret as " Feed me NOW, " whereas Socks has a quiet, polite little mew, like she's saying "excuse me, could you please let me out if it's not too much trouble?"

TheShellBeach · 09/09/2023 23:31

Good news about the car, @Allergictoironing and your Tobias news is lovely.
