I would say he's near to 7kg so paws might have a shock

So might your back! Is your manual handling training up-to-date? 😂

The foster woman did say OOF as she picked him up. Apparently great with children too

YesItsMeIDontCare · 21/05/2023 22:37

I tend to say "Jesus Christ on a furry bike, you fat bugger" when I pick Leroy up. Also "1, 2, 3, hhhupp" 😁

Good excuse to put your feet up though - the big lads need space so having your feet up on the sofa gives access to the required amount of lap. 👍🏻

Supersimkin2 · 21/05/2023 22:51

7 kg is a perfect weight, nice and solid for cuddling. Proper bloke.

Guiltypleasures001 · 21/05/2023 23:12

Huge welcome to Shady and his ear tufts 😍

Florissante · 22/05/2023 07:26

How is he with other cats? Would he accept Paws?

He lived with another cat so should be ok

Tips on how to introduce them welcome because paws is likely to just thud inside...

Supersimkin2 · 22/05/2023 08:44

Paws is free spirit who visits his lady love when his ardour compels. Shady loves his home comforts and one would think must come first while he finds his paws.

The big thing I did when Prince arrived too soon (for me not for him) after Capn died was do a massive air ‘n’ clean so everything smelt of spring and welcome. Fresh throws, boiled the duvets, the lot. Febreze sprayed like Miss Dior. It was appreciated.

Then I didn’t hoover for a week (yay) to let Prince’s charming personal fragrance sink in.

Celebrating spring - I’ve got to deflea both cats this morning. No sign of either of them.

Kyse23 · 22/05/2023 08:46

Yes I figure feed paws outside while shady settles in. Waiting to find out if he likes to go out or not

nettie434 · 22/05/2023 09:37

Really good news about Shady, Kyse. I was thinking that it's a positive that he is a chunky chap as Ollie was very small, wasn't he?

Allergictoironing · 22/05/2023 09:40

Yes I was thinking the same - enough similarity to be familiar but enough difference to be comfortable. Be prepared to lose all feeling in arms/legs etc when he lies on them though!

Quick thought - I suppose Paws will have to stay outside, or at least only come in/go out while supervised, for the first few weeks anyway while Shady does his "quarantine" period of not going out?

Yes exactly. I'm imagining Paws indignant face smashed up against the window Blush

Allergictoironing · 22/05/2023 09:59

Don't know if your finances can take it, but maybe something like a Flatcats screen will help them get acquainted more quickly?

Plus they are easy enough to pull one corner back to let Paws in and out without letting Shady escape at the same time, better than a window or door as you can restrict the opening to just enough to let one cat through while you stand there.

Was much easier for me because Girlcat actually lives here & is indoor only too, which ofc you can't do with Paws.

I had one and got rid of it! Hopefully it will be fine, Shady hides from the birds so he might not be inclined to try and get out

I can't imagine a 7kg cat. My two are 3kg!

RumNotRun · 22/05/2023 11:33

Am I the only one envisioning a TC Vs Grumpy situation, but with Paws and Kyse?

This was how Vixen chose to nap this morning. I'm not sure how Toad felt about it.

Florissante · 22/05/2023 12:06

Paws is a lover, not a fighter.

Allergictoironing · 22/05/2023 12:25

Girlcat always used to use Boycat as a pillow when they slept in the bed together. If the light wasn't great in there, it was the best way to tell 2 very similar black cats curled up together apart!

Girlcat back from her MoT (passed with flying colours) with the lovely Cathy who was Boycat's vet through the end. She was so well behaved - accepted not just head & jaw rubs, but belly rubs too and made it hard to check her heart through the purring! She's back near her old weight at 4.9kg (used to be 4.7-4.8) so has lost all the excess she put on when sharing Boycat's CKD food.

Vixen! Very cosy.

Kyse23 · 22/05/2023 14:23

Apparently he's more of an indoor cat by choice
I'll give him the option to sunbathe outside if he wants though

Florissante · 22/05/2023 17:24

Hooray for all of the good news!

When does Shady formally move in, Kyse?

He needs his vet check Wednesday so flea, worm, bloods and vaccines then if all that is fine I can pick him up on Friday

This is a daft question but it's been a while since I had a new cat.. I don't have one room to shut him in so I'm just going to let him free and see how he is
The litter tray is in the spare room, reckon that's ok or should I move it to somewhere more prominent for a bit?

I'd put it somewhere fairly prominent to start with, then you can gradually move it to wherever you want it to be.

Kyse23 · 22/05/2023 20:12

Hmm. It's tricky as the best place would be in the living room patio area but he will have to be brave as that's where I am! On the other hand he didn't seem too shy Grin
