What daft things are your cats frightened off.

My boy cat is a huge daft ginger who goes to anyone, is constantly square going his sister and thinks it's fair game to play with the hoover (while it's on!) However if anyone dares to open a bottle of fizzy juice around him it's like he visibly reduces in size and runs off to hide from the scary noise!! I know need to tell him it's ok and go lalalala loudly whenever is need to open one!

The empty washing basket

Tin foil being unravelled from the tube. Absolutely petrified!!!!

Nimbostratus100 · 18/02/2023 16:51

fizzy drinks hiss like a huge aggressive intruder, I think most cats are afraid of them

PriamFarrl · 18/02/2023 16:52

Long things.

Any kind of broom, spade, roll of wrapping paper, she runs a mile.

Purplepeoniesdroppingpetals · 18/02/2023 16:52

Blackbirds - great big Birman runs and hides from angry birds. He charges into the conservatory and hides under a chair.

His sister and my before them never batted an eyelid.

My electric toothbrush! He wants to be as far away as possible from it as once some toothpaste foam got in his eye...
The sliding glass doors into the garden are also occasionally petrifying - I think he sees his reflection and thinks it is another cat? Not the sharpest tool in the box!

ReviewingTheSituation · 18/02/2023 16:57

Everything! The slightest noise makes her jump and look scared. I dread to think what happened to her before she lived with us to make her so terrified.

Pyjamageddon · 18/02/2023 16:59

Mine is terrified of people who don't live in our house. So if anyone comes to the door he will hide and has to be coaxed out. If it's someone delivering a parcel I have to take the parcel to him and let him sniff it and then he's back to normal!

Mylobsterteapot · 18/02/2023 17:00

Tin foil. So scary. Must run away. I can’t even go near the drawer than contains the tin foil without him running off.

OnTheRunWithMannyMontana · 18/02/2023 17:00

Any sort of delivery, postman or bin wagons. She jumps out of her skin and dives behind the sofa until they are gone.

Fckingfuming · 18/02/2023 17:02

Visitors. Runs away every time the doorbell rings, but isn't scared of the snakesConfused

NeverDropYourMooncup · 18/02/2023 17:06

Uncovered sneezes. Doesn't matter if he's 15 foot away and you are vaguely housetrained sneeze quietly/without the performative AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH-CHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO shout-sneeze that makes me wish for capital punishment for such offenders, unless the face is covered, he'll take off like somebody just told him he was going to be roasted for dinner - but if you have time to sneeze into your elbow or t-shirt, assuming you don't have tissues immediately to hand, he can be on your lap and not even twitch. Makes me think that maybe we should have handkerchiefs about our person at all times.

He's such a snob.

Nopeasinapasty · 18/02/2023 17:07

Well I'm no longer allowed to sneeze, cough or whistle in their presence. And when I first had them, the theme tune to Hollyoaks sent them flying upstairs to hide under the bed

This is the same as my cat! He hears the bell and bolts 😂 if he sniffs the package he's back to being okay though.

My other is scared of the grudge type noises, it really freaks him. That and my hairdryer! But the hoover is a game?

I don't understand them 😂

QueenOfThorns · 18/02/2023 17:08

Balloons! Absolutely terrifying apparently.

FionnulaTheCooler · 18/02/2023 17:10

The window cleaner.
The rustly noise a bin liner makes when I shake it out.
The rustly noise my waterproof work coat makes when I put it on.

Strangers, the doorbell, someone walking past the window....

We have a lot of snakes in our garden. I treat them with caution, DH was fine with them until one hissed at him! The cat chases them down and beats them up!

WARNING!!!!

Anyone knocking on the door
Me wearing my coat
The ironing board
DP with his top off Grin

Daleksatemyshed · 18/02/2023 17:22

The carpet - she won't walk on it unless strictly necessary, she prefers to come through the window and then leap from table to chair. She also hates the metallic noise the grill pan makes when pulled out. And paper being torn. Basically she's not quite right 😂

WiltingLobelia · 18/02/2023 17:23

One of ours had an infection when she was very young that went to her brain. Sadly it did affect her cognitive function.

She was incapable of understanding what happened to our legs when they were in bed under the duvet.... and that they had not just disappeared. If we moved a leg or foot while she was on the bed she would freak right out.

GreenMarigold · 18/02/2023 17:24

Nothing that we’ve found so far. He is the first cat I’ve had that will run over to see what’s going on when there is a loud noise, someone comes to the door or I put the hoover on. Lovely nature but we all know what curiosity did to the cat so I do worry about him!
