What daft things are your cats frightened off.

My boy cat is a huge daft ginger who goes to anyone, is constantly square going his sister and thinks it's fair game to play with the hoover (while it's on!) However if anyone dares to open a bottle of fizzy juice around him it's like he visibly reduces in size and runs off to hide from the scary noise!! I know need to tell him it's ok and go lalalala loudly whenever is need to open one!

My soft toy cat! She won't go near it-so it lives on my bed to keep her off it!

Cruel staff my poor cat has!

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 18/02/2023 17:25

Cat1 - carrier bags, ironing board
Cat2- hairdryer, hoover
both cats - DC2's oboe, even when it's not being played. Which is a hangover from the old days before she was any good and used to make really loud duck noises.

NatMoz · 18/02/2023 17:30

Girl cat isn't too fussed by much...but boy cat...

Bin bags when you open them - the rustle
Tin foil
Stranger knocking on the front door
Toy cars when whizzed across the floor
Deodorant
😂

Cucumbers!

WorstBJever · 18/02/2023 17:40

Our cats are quite bombproof having grown up with 2 very noisy boys. They don't bat an eyelid at fireworks and are surprisingly relaxed around our feral youngest. However, if I dare to unroll a bit of tin foil they leg it. Also just discovered that DH's vape is also terrifying.

Well I'm no longer allowed to sneeze, cough or whistle in their presence. And when I first had them, the theme tune to Hollyoaks sent them flying upstairs to hide under the bed

Your cats are My People.

I feel the same way about the Eastenders theme.

Hoover
Door buzzer
The opening of the dishwasher
Airborne drops of water
Plumbers
DD1

The oven. When it's on he won't walk past it to his food bowl. So we have to time our Sunday roast so as not to upset His Highness.

Ginqueen456 · 18/02/2023 17:56

My girl likes to sit on the edge of the bath when someone is in it, I discovered that she's terrified of my toes coming out from the water 🤣

RumNotRun · 18/02/2023 17:58

One of my cats hates my electric dry skin remover thing. She's not scared of it but will come into the bathroom if I turn it on, and hiss, spit, and attack it. None of the other cats pay any attention to it.

A couple of them are scared of the sound of me getting a new bin bag off the roll. Oh and Fred is terrified of people, except me. I went away for four days so my friend came over to feed the tribe. He didn't see Fred at all except for the occasional disappearing white tail as he ran to hide in other rooms

Nothing that we’ve found so far. He is the first cat I’ve had that will run over to see what’s going on when there is a loud noise, someone comes to the door or I put the hoover on. Lovely nature but we all know what curiosity did to the cat so I do worry about him!

Our youngest cat is like this, little 6mth old boy and he is scared of nothing! He's only going outside on the harness for now as like you I'm scared of what could happen to him.

aSpanielintheworks · 18/02/2023 18:00

Ours were feral before we rescued them from the Rspca, they had never known life inside a house and were petrified of the TV!

MeMyCatsAndMyBooks · 18/02/2023 18:03

One of mine is scared of going outside, she'll sit by the back door with it open and refuse to come outside yet she was a outdoor cat for 6 years! 🤦🏻‍♀️

The other two are stupid and just not scared of anything, mind you one think she's a parrot and sits on your shoulders so 🤷🏻‍♀️

purplewolfie · 18/02/2023 18:05

One of mine hates drink cans so much she will run when she sees one- before you even open them. The other's not fussed.

BigButtons · 18/02/2023 18:06

I’ve had mine since he was a few weeks old. He was timid as a kitten and is still timid as 6 year old.
he is frightened plastic bags, brooms, banging pots, shower curtains, the shower hose and anything that happens to fall on the floor. All these things will send him running.
He’a not at all a lap cat either.

WestendVBroadway · 18/02/2023 18:08

Me singing aloud to my 80s play list apparently. He gave me a stare then sunk his claws into my arm.

CammieKennaway · 18/02/2023 18:09

The cat I have now is scared of nothing - but our old cat, Snoop, used to be petrified of swedes (as in the veg) for some reason.
I only found out when I was peeling and chopping a swede and I had to answer the door, so walked through with the swede in my hand and he was asleep - as I passed, he suddenly woke up, leapt off the chair backwards with a height I'd never seen him do.
I tried showing him a bit of the unpeeled swede end and he boxed it to death, whilst hissing and spitting.
I'm ashamed to say that I was a terrible Cat Servant and laughed and his maniacal battering of this poor vegetable - I reckon Sir Snoop disapproved of the smell of swede.

Catname · 18/02/2023 18:11

Generally the only things my cats are frightened of are dogs (not the foxes that come in the garden) and the hoover - but one is petrified of my microfibre floor duster. He’s not frightened of the mop though 🤷‍♀️

😂

Mine is terrified when I have a towel on my head.

HappyBirthdayLydia · 18/02/2023 18:15

One cat- spray of my deodorant can. He leaps 6 foot in the air. I switch to roll on, then forget and buy spray...then remember....

Other cat- watering can. Can be fast asleep in the sunlight then running for his life. I'm guessing he's been chased by an angry gardener at some point!

Doyouthinktheyknow · 18/02/2023 18:15

The hairdryer, industrial hoovers and the great outdoors it seems😻

My hairdryer, I only need to go near it to get the brush and she is gone. And our plumber had a very noisy hoover thing which scared her so badly she panicked and tried to escape through closed patio doors before darting through the cat flap. Thankfully she just hid in next door’s garden and came back when called because she’s very dim and would get lost if she went further than a garden away.

Dcat is fast becoming a self imposed indoor cat! She sits by the flap for ages but rarely goes out anymore.

She doesn’t like other cats but used to love going out.

MissMaple82 · 18/02/2023 18:16

Bin liner

Fckingfuming · 18/02/2023 18:19

@PriamFarrl sorry I didn't make myself clear, the snakes are our pets Grin

ProfYaffle · 18/02/2023 18:24

Other cats to the point where she wouldn't walk past a cat garden ornament!

Pouffeycat · 18/02/2023 18:29

The bin men. When he hears them coming, he's under the bed immediately.
