What daft things are your cats frightened off.

My boy cat is a huge daft ginger who goes to anyone, is constantly square going his sister and thinks it's fair game to play with the hoover (while it's on!) However if anyone dares to open a bottle of fizzy juice around him it's like he visibly reduces in size and runs off to hide from the scary noise!! I know need to tell him it's ok and go lalalala loudly whenever is need to open one!

Spray deodorant

Current cat has the same personality as the person in a horror film who sets off with the flickering torch into the basement to find out what’s making the noise. No fear whatsoever.

Except when the letterbox rattles. When that happens she disappears into the wardrobe. Because cat reasons.

DCat is a Ragdoll who is the living embodiment of why they are recommended to be indoor only. He isn't scared of anything - not through bravery, mind, but because he is thick as a brick. I love that furry idiot.

The rustling of bin liners or carrier bags. Although will happily stick his head inside a carrier bag to see what's inside it. Also hates the hoover and shits himself as soon as I've picked my hair dryer up regardless of whether or not it's turned on. Also hates the bath especially if there's water in it. Used to lay on me when he was a kitten whilst I had a bath and one day decided to dunk his entire head under the water and snort a load of water up his nose and has been terrified of water ever since.

A (live) turkey.

One of my cats has "fear" aggression issues and had beaten up cows, dogs, and memorably, a possum. However, he lived in fear of my pet turkey because he hissed at her once so forever more, if she saw him, she'd chase him with violent enthusiasm. Unfortunately she was put down due to health issues so he reigns supreme again.

The formerly feral cat is scared of visitors and the washing machine while the former barn cat fears nothing mainly because she doesn't wake up long enough.

The smell of orange peel but only when I peel it. I know cats don't like the smell so I put some on my plate to stop him scrounging but when anyone else does it your food's fair game. He's my daughter's cat and we think he thinks he's a Labrador, he also plays fetch.

Tin foil and bin bags seem to be a reoccurring theme!
The themes tunes reminded me of my old dog who was frightened of the Casualty theme tune.

My cat beats the crap out if anything that buzzes, to the point where she will climb me, all claws out and batter it, not sure if it's a fear response though.
Opening carbonated drink cans sends her running as does any spray but fly spray.

Tall hats
Anything higher than 2 - 3 inches off the head.
His reaction when I donned a witch's hat on Halloween was epic. There's still a dent in the ceiling 😂

Also terrified of the vacuum cleaner. Legs it at warp speed as soon as it appears.

TroysMammy · 19/02/2023 09:18

@Pyjamageddon I've got one like that. Absolutely petrified and will spend the next 24 hours skulking around the house looking for "the bogeyman" who left hours ago. The doorbell sends him into a tizz but is then happy if it's a parcel as he gets the box.

He also hates me getting out saucepans from the kitchen drawer because of the noise.

He's not that much of a scaredy cat as I've seen him chasing off a fox.

Tribollite · 19/02/2023 09:20

I have an utter lapcat who wants to be close at all times.

If I happen to be walking around though and look like I'm trying to corner her (I'm not, I'm just trying to get past her), she runs off terrified as if she's never seen me before.

She's generally a scaredy-cat though - hides from visitors, hates loud noises, won't go further than the garden. Will readily front up to other cats and foxes on her territory though.

When I tear a black refuse bag off the roll,my cat runs for her life.

purser25 · 30/11/2023 19:48

When it snowed he saw his garden all white from the conservatory he turned round put his back to the door so he couldn’t see it and later on hid in the wardrobe. He is a really laid back cat.
