Katkin cat food

I've had a random ad pop up for this, and looking into it I think I'd like to try it. I've put all Sparklingcat's details in and it says the cost of feeding her would be £1.89 a day, and that she would only need 1 pouch a day?

Shes 3kg, skinny with a hyperactive thyroid (which she has tablets for) and about 16. She currently wolfs through 4 pouches a day of 'Felix as Good as it Looks'.

Anyone got any experience? There's a 20% off trial but just not sure.

If you can afford it, it's a good option. My cat loved it and it filled her up better than bog standard cat food

Sparklingbrook · 03/12/2022 12:33

Is it really only one pouch a day @DuchessDandelion ? It's so different to what she gets now (fed on demand basically).

My cat loves it. I have to portion it out in about 4-5 meals over the course of the day, and I do give her the odd treat or portion of cat soup if she's still hungry after that.

Sparklingbrook · 03/12/2022 12:42

I think I am so used to her miaowing for food it would be a big change. Are the pouches the same size as the Felix ones?

I am also curious about the poo being less smelly-I would very much like a fragrant litter tray experience, it's currently not great.

Mine are on Canagan which is pretty similar. Cats are on a pouch and a half a day with v little whinging for dinner times. They are 4kg and 5kg, neither overweight.

The difference is that it's solid meat with no filler. It works out marginally more expensive a day than standard cat food but not as much as you would expect as they eat so much less.

DuchessDandelion · 03/12/2022 12:58

Yep she had half a pouch in the morning and half in the evening. Free feeds dry food.

It smells like we could eat tbh, it's proper food. Can't comment on poo, she didn't have a litter tray.

If you can afford it, give the trial a go - nothing to lose!

Is her hyperthyroidism being treated?

Clarich007 · 03/12/2022 13:01

It is 1pouch per day, but they are large pouches. I bought it for my street cat who eats anything, and he ate it but it looks very greasy.
Unfortunately it didn't suit him and he got the runs.

CeliaCanth · 03/12/2022 13:04

My cats love it, after the initial ritual nose-turning because it is different. I’m sure their coats looked better after a short while on it. And I can definitely confirm their poos are much less whiffy and are easier to deal with.

Yes she has two tablets in the morning and one I’m the evening for her thyroid. It’s being controlled but she’s not really gaining weight, always 3kg.

Thanks for all the input here. Because the ad popped up I’m never sure if it’s all above board.

We have used KatKin for 6 months, I'd tried her in raw food before and it was a no go. She used to go with phases with pouches and would sometimes not eat them. Doesn't Kalem with KatKin, she eats it all! Litter tray is definitely better. No I'm not sponsored by KatKin lol xxx

WetBandits · 03/12/2022 14:43

Is she fussy at all? My mum’s cat won’t touch Katkin so she’s donated it to me and my 3 dustbins can’t get enough Grin

I use Bella and Duke raw food for my own cats and they’ve all gained weight beautifully, their coats are shiny and their poos are tiny and don’t stink!

Sparklingbrook · 03/12/2022 15:27

She's not especially fussy, except that she will not eat any human food at all, (not that she should be but she wouldn't be interested) so if it's very different to usual cat food she might need a bit of encouragement.

One more question. Storage. Do they eat it from the fridge?
It says fridge/freezer?

OP posts:
DuchessDandelion · 04/12/2022 00:06

You can freeze it and defrost to store in fridge or just keep in fridge. Warm gently for a few seconds in the microwave before serving

Sparklingbrook · 04/12/2022 00:08

Thanks. Need to look at space in the freezer and fridge-move done stuff around.

I feed my three Katkins. They love it, there are various flavours to try, I think a trial box is half price or I have a referral code if you'd like. They get one pouch a day, but it's much bigger than pouches of Felix for example. I divide it into four separate meals. It arrives frozen, you store it in the freezer and defrost for them to eat. Mine like it gently warmed in the microwave and with a little water added 🙄 You get a box once a month which should last all month and you are charged three days before it is sent. You can pause or cancel at any time and also request your box earlier if you haven't got enough to last all month for some reason. One of my boys is 12 and has had a dodgy stomach all his life, but he's having no problems with this. Their poo is tiny and much less smelly than before.

TheMousePipes · 04/12/2022 00:36

We’ve been on Katkin for the last 12 months. The overlord used to suffer from colitis but a change to his special frozen dinners has resulted in much better condition. He no longer turns the air green and his poos are smaller and less stinky. His coat is shiny and full and he just looks all round better.
Katkin is a total win here, and because it’s only one pouch a day it’s not as expensive as it initially seems.

Sparklingbrook · 04/12/2022 09:35

I was about to click and buy the trial 2 weeks with 20% off but I now think storage will be an issue. Weekly shopping delivery arrived yesterday and the fridge and freezer are pretty full, I don't think I would get the cat food in in the quantity that will be delivered.

You don't need lots of space as the pouches are thin and flat. I don't even have a freezer, just an icebox in my fridge, but can store a month's worth of pouches easily. Also of course you don't need to feed them Katkin exclusively, I mix and match to provide variety.

DH is furiously googling small fridges for the garage (but he may have been waiting for this moment for his own requirements Christmas beer wise Grin).
That's reassuring-thank you.

They only take up one drawer in my freezer and I get the largest pouches to feed all three.

Sparklingbrook · 04/12/2022 18:55

Thanks all. I think I’m going to go for it and see what happens.

Sooo. The first lot arrived today. And she’s just eaten a whole pouch in one go . 😮
