My Cat has been missing 2 days - Any more ideas on what I can do?

I'm a complete mess, my cat went missing very early hours of Friday morning. She must have gone out of the cat flap and for some reason didn't do her usual jump on my bed on her return, instead, she just hasn't returned.

She's 7 and when she was 2 used to go AWOL at times but since then has been a real homey cat and never goes far, hence me not locking the cat flap on Thursday night (which I feel so guilty about).

I've put her details all over Facebook, local groups and lost and found groups too. Put out some posters, been out early this morning and called for her and told everyone in my street to look in their sheds etc. Now I've run out of ideas and feel so useless not doing anything that might help bring her back.

She's been my one constant companion the past few years and I'm a wreck without her (I live on my own) and guess I'm just clutching at straws in case anyone has any ideas of what I can do, or even some hope that she will return soon. Thank you x

@Slowdayinfleetstreetisit still no news. I've been to the farm and houses at the fields nearby with flyers. They didn't recognise Scully at all, I'm still wondering if she's locked up somewhere but am at a loss as to who to ask now. Everyone in my road has said they have looked in all of their garages/sheds etc. Thank you for caring x

@Emmamoo89 Thank you, Scully is an indoor/outdoor cat and usually has a quick explore outside and then is straight back in the warm.

I hope she realises it's time to return and sets off back home very soon 🐈

Keep on keeping on love.

Hey Scully! Your Mum needs you and is worried out of her mind! go home to her.

QueueEtwo · 22/11/2022 20:38

Definitely make contact with the local rescues, if there are any sightings you might need a trap to get her back & they can usually lend you one!

I'm keeping everything crossed for you! 🙏

SallyWD · 22/11/2022 21:10

I'm so sorry. It's awful not knowing. They often do turn up though so don't give up hope.

Thank you 🙏 the kindness I’m getting from this thread almost makes me cry and is so touching.

I have met some wonderful, kind, helpful people while Scully has been missing, it has honestly restored my faith in (most) of the local community. X

@QueueEtwo that’s a good idea, thank you, I’ll contact my nearest cat rescue tomorrow, all of the local vets are aware but the more people who know the better. X

@SallyWD thank you, someone very local to me had her cat return yesterday after being missing for 5 and a half weeks, so I keep hoping for the best x

I've just seen this, I really hope Scully comes home soon. I'm sending you positive vibes.

Clymene · 23/11/2022 09:59

I went to look at so many cats that weren't my cat.

Also - and this is horrible - you can ring the waste department at your council and find out if they've come across a cat's body. I did that. I just decided in the end it would be better to know one way or the other. I really know that feeling of lying awake, hearing a storm and worrying about them. It's horrible. Flowers

PushkaMcgee · 23/11/2022 13:28

@Clymene I checked with my local council and they scan any animals found for microchips, so I assume from that she hasn't been found by them. Yes, hearing the rain and wind and nasty weather at night is horrid, imagining her out there.

@Bumzoo thank you, it's been 12 days now and I'm still hoping she'll suddenly appear

Thinking of you.
Have you tried the fish?
I once read it's best to leave off the calling for a bit as it might give them comfort to hear you but too scared to come out.
Come home Scully your Mum is beside herself Flowers

PushkaMcgee · 25/11/2022 13:12

@Words thank you so much. I've tried the fish with no luck but will keep trying 🐈

I was out early yesterday morning searching the overgrown areas near my home but realised that when it's dark it may be quiet but it's so difficult to see anything (even with my bright torch) and also it's hard to see which area and how much I'm covering so I've decided to go out at first light on Sunday morning rather than when there's no light. I'm still walking the local streets and, as you suggest, have not been calling Scully but hopefully she may smell me.

I've been out putting up more posters and posting more flyers this morning and still keeping my fingers tightly crossed she'll be home very soon 💔

I hope she comes home very soon OP.
Years ago, one of our cats went missing for 3 weeks. Drove up the driveway one day and he was sitting on the front step.

PushkaMcgee · 25/11/2022 16:33

@Theoldwoman thank you, messages like yours give me hope

Hello @PushkaMcgee checking in. I can't recall if you have social media covered? I expect you have. I live in a small country town and local businesses like estate agents will often agree to a poster in the window. Could Scully have got into a vehicle maybe?

Cats are survivors and some of them are incredibly clever.

Two little anecdotes- I once temporarily fostered my neighbour's cat when she became too ill to look after him anymore. With her permission I found a new home for him on the other side of town, as I already had three cats myself at that point.

Despite me advising her not to, his new owner let him out immediately and that was it, he was gone. I was devastated and leafletted everywhere. He was found after about ten days. Thin and thirsty but otherwise ok. He lived with me for the rest of his life.

The other concerns my darling boy cat . I have this huge, almost spooky connection with him. Well, I brought him home from the rescue and as Usual cat proofed all exits as I always keep new cats in for at least a fortnight.

Imagine my devastation to discover after less than 24 hours he had forced his way out of a locked cat flap. He didn't know me or the area. I went out calling and calling the name the rescue gave him. Nothing.

The set up here is a bit strange with no back entry as house set into hillside, with neighbours above and no back garden except a small patio area. This was where he got out and I thought it would be impossible for him to work out how to execute various downwards leaps onto walls and roofs to get back to my door, also unlikely he would recognise my surroundings from smells as he was so new. He came back. Smile

Keep on keeping on Smile

@Words So pleased both your wandering cats returned, I'm loving stories like yours at the moment.

I spoke to an old friend yesterday and she told me her cat went missing for 3 weeks and her son's cat disappeared for 6 weeks before returning home from his grand adventure to who knows where.

Yes, I've put Scully all over social media and have been out again this morning walking different roads nearby and have put up some more posters, luckily the ones I put up last week are all still there and looking intact. I've stopped lots of walkers etc and keep spreading the word. Weirdly, going out this morning gave me some hope as there are some many places she could have wandered to nearby and hopefully has just lost track of where she is, I think I was so concerned she had gone over to the farms and woodland that I'd forgotten the many houses in the other direction.

I have to also say that the past couple of weeks has restored my faith in people, I've spoken to so many concerned helpful strangers and many have been so kind in their words, similarly this thread, if nothing else, I feel really cared for (if that makes sense!).

I had a bit of a meltdown yesterday as I read a couple of pieces that said about microchips not working or moving so they couldn't be read anymore but after a few hours of worry I suddenly realised hers must still work and be easy to read as her cat flap is linked to her microchip and she was in and out of that up to the day of her disappearance. Big sign of relief from PushkaMcgee!

Apologies for the long post, it's cathartic writing about my Scully. Thank you all again for your help and care x

If you put a pic on here and the area I will put it on FB and let you know if there's any response?

PushkaMcgee · 28/11/2022 15:54

@gettingolderbutcooler Thank you so much, that's incredibly kind of you. Here is my Scully, I'm in the Totton area of Southampton, Hampshire. She is microchipped

@Sophiste thank you 🙏

I had a call earlier from someone who had a cat similar to Scully so my hopes were lifted for a while, sadly not her, but another stray that I have put on the local lost and found site, so hopefully she will find her owner again.

Since I lost my boy I get really cross about people talking about 'stray' cats! It isn't stray it's bloody lost & needs some help getting home!

Rant over! Glad you're helping the other cat! 💐
