I know this may be subjective but in your opinion which type of cat is the most laid back/loving?

I hear black cats maybe?

The rescue I got my Persians from
Insists that chinchilla's are grumpy. I've only met two. One was a softie. The other is very grumpy!

We have a male Bengal kitten and he is the sweetest most snuggly little thing 😍

silentpool · 04/11/2022 00:54

@Toddlerteaplease he sits behind me when I WFH.

Agree about neutered Toms. Mine is a big, beefy BSH, almost 6kg, and loves the bones of me. It’s lovely coming home to him trotting down the stairs to meet me, or have him sleep on my bed. I go to the gym in the mornings and he meets me at the top of the street on my way home, and we come in together for breakfast. I love him very much.

Birman. In Burma they are known as "little dog" because they're so affectionate. They're also stunning.

Lots of hair though!

My best every kitty was my (neutered, male) tuxedo cat.

He was incredibly loving and affectionate but in a calm, chilled out way, just happy to be around us but not loud or attention seeking. My flatmate called him her 'doorstop' because he was always just there, quietly sitting and waiting for a cuddle.

Outtasteamandluck · 04/11/2022 01:59

Gingers 🐈

From the minute we collected him from cat rescue, he hasn't left my side. He's still a baby at 6 months.

It's 1:30 am and he woke me for cuddles.

I think he'll be forever my baby 😻

LT2 · 04/11/2022 09:57

@StarbucksSmarterSister ragdolls are known as puppy cats too! They are very similar as I think one was bred to make the other!

Throwaway1066 · 04/11/2022 10:05

This little girl is always on a lap. Preferably my DH but I’m an acceptable alternative human if he’s not available.

Agree that neutered male cats are the biggest softies! I've had a wonderful tabby and currently a tux boy who is such a sweet and affectionate catdog.
My only female cat was affectionate on her own terms only!

I think our male neutered tabby missed the memo.

Ginger boy cats. Ive never met a bad one

PinkButtercups · 04/11/2022 10:08

Grey/Grey & White.

Our first grey was the most placid boy. Absolutely lovely and for such a young age. Unfortunately he got ran over at 1.

2 Grey's after that and again absolutely lovely. One of them was thin and slender the other a big fat squishy furry beast. Lovely cats.

My sisters ginger boy is lovely.

When I was young my mum got a ginger and white boy but he was absolutely vile. Tempted to call him Damien and not Tigger.

GerbilsForever24 · 04/11/2022 10:11

We've had two ginger neutered males and they are just the best. Not lap cats but both love/d a cuddle, sit close to us on the couch, sleep on the bed etc. Current one is lying on the back of the couch next to me right now s he can have mummy time AND sunshine time.

Could do with less shedding though!

It goes without saying that grey moggies are the absolute best 😹

Neutered ginger toms. The first one we had was so sweet and patient when DC came along. Never once jumped in their cots. Sat and put up with it when they grabbed his tail (obviously i came to the rescue, but he never lashed out.)

The next two were like dogs. Trotted to school with DC. Trotted to the main road to accompany them back from school - always seemed to know when they'd be out. Used to pop round to neighbours if I was having coffee just to check I was OK, and sometimes wait on their doorsteps to accompany me home in case I got lost.

Our old boy still insists on tucking me in at night and any of DC (now adult) if they come home. As soon as the light goes off, he jumps up, snuggles at chest height, stroked my cheek with a paw and purrs until I am almost asleep and then hops off, job done.

He also used to hop up on the spare bar stool at the kitchen counter to have his breakfast with DC, up at table, not down on the floor. It was very cute. Too rickety now.

Rescue cats where they know they have landed on their feet.

BUT, the most amazing cat story I have is a ferra Mum, who used to bring her kittens to our back door for food. Then we moved a couple of doors down, and they 'lost' us. About a month later, one of her grown up kittens followed me home one day, and brought his Mum to our house the next day! Might not be the loving story you are after, but it shows a great deal of trust and recognition!

IHateWasps · 04/11/2022 10:33

I grew up with a family that rescued cats and have lived with literally dozens of them and honestly I haven't found any difference. They're all individuals. I've had a ragdoll too and he was lovely(if a bit bitey) but no more(or less) than your average moggy.

I don't understand the fixation on certain breeds or colours.

Snozzlemaid · 04/11/2022 10:33

Not a huge official study for you but I've had 5 cats in my life and only one was male, neutered.
He was by far the most loving, soppiest cat ever.

The females have all been far more aloof and limit their loving.

Yes, I often can't tell the difference in photos.

newtb · 04/11/2022 15:29

Maine Coons. Mine slept on my head as a kitten.
Later dd adopted a ginger tom who tried to claw the other cat's eyes.

belimoo · 04/11/2022 16:05

I agree with Ragdolls. Mine follows me around everywhere, sleeps next to me all night, lets me put him in silly outfits and is happy being carried around in a papoose.

Ellmau · 05/11/2022 09:10

Ragdolls, or neutered black or ginger males seem to be the most affectionate.

Catsservant · 05/11/2022 09:19

Our Burmese cat wants to be on you constantly but the British shorthair only gets affectionate when he’s hungry, once fed if you try to stroke him he gets up and walks off 😂

Siamese are gorgeous (I have 5😸) and very very affectionate but definitely not laid back!

They are generally in your face saying cuddle me, love me! 😆
