Can't sleep, cat hasn't come in tonight.

Don't think I'm going to sleep tonight. We have a rescue cat that has been with us for two months. She had never been out at all before living with us so she's been very wary of outside. She's only really gone out when we go in the garden but loves going out when it's dark for a bit on her own but she's always stayed in our garden.

If she goes out she's always back every 20 minutes or so.
I last saw her about 11pm when she came in for some food and now there's no sign of her.
I feel sick with worry. She's completely stolen all our hearts and I'm sitting here with the back door open thinking the worst, desperately wanting her to walk in the door. Sad

Hand hold, it is always a sleepless night when they have not come back. I am sure she is exploring or watching a mouse nest and will be back for breakfast.

Snozzlemaid · 17/07/2021 03:32

Thanks. I really hope so. It's just so out of character for her and she's so scatty I'm wondering what bother she may have got herself into.

Our rescue cat has been missing for 24 hours and I'm sick with worry too. I've woken up and can't get back to sleep. He's such a gorgeous boy. We've had him two years and he's a house cat but he escaped. He's been out before but always comes back within then hour. I desperately want him back and my dd is so upset.

Newfluff · 17/07/2021 04:22

Is it particularly warm where you are? The only time my cat stayed out was hot nights, really hope you both get them back soon

Snozzlemaid · 17/07/2021 05:01

She's just walked in the door. The absolute monkey has given me a sleepless night!
She's now having a wash like nothing's happened. Would love to know where she's been.
I don't want to let her out again now!
lollipop I really hope you get some good news soon too. It's an awful feeling not knowing where they are. I'm completely rung out and was planning Facebook posts and posters in my head all night. You must be so worried.

It is warm here yes. Maybe that's why she thought she'd have a night out!

@Snozzlemaid so happy for you. We've done Facebook posts and posters but no news yet.

@lollipoprainbow have you put his used litter tray outside as this could help him get home if he is nearby but lost?

EatingAllThePies · 17/07/2021 05:20

Oh no just seen this. Mine hasn't been home since 2pm yesterday. The last time she was gone she was stuck up a tree. Come back kittes 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

SalsaLove · 17/07/2021 05:25

I think lots of cats are enjoying the warm weather and being able to sleep outside.

Newfluff · 17/07/2021 05:31

Op, glad cat is .back, I bet she could see you the whole time

Wolfiefan · 17/07/2021 05:45

Hope she saunters in without a care in the world OP. They do like to worry us. One of ours has been shut in a garage. And an empty house.

Aww didn't read properly! Good news, hopefully she will bring the rest of them back. Got all my fingers crossed @lollipoprainbow

Two of our much missed cats previously disappeared for 6 and 9 weeks respectively so do keep us posted. After I nodded off earlier I've just come downstairs to Madame snoozing in her favourite warm spot.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 17/07/2021 08:11

In this weather at least one of ours is usually out at night. You do get used to it and we don't lie awake at night wondering what they are up to!.

lubeybooby · 17/07/2021 08:17

Sorry I only just saw this and couldn't reassure you sooner - soon as I read it I thought you have one similar to mine on your hands!

My cat will stay out all night given the chance especially when it's really warm like the last few days, I prefer to keep her in overnight but if she hasn't popped in by 9pm and it's been above 25c in the day I know I've missed the chance to close the cat flap and she won't appear til 5/6am little bugger

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 17/07/2021 08:39

I hate it when they do this. I tend to tempt them in early eve before it starts getting dark then keep them in.

It's not so bad when girl cat does It, she's older and is never too far away but one of the younger boy cats worries me when ever he's managed to stay out the night!

bravotango · 17/07/2021 08:45

Our rescue boy did exactly this not long after we started letting him out (having been an indoor cat before)! He's never done it again though Grin

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 17/07/2021 08:56

glad she's back. One of ours often goes on all-night benders when the weather's like this. I think they like the combination of warm conditions and empty streets.

lollipoprainbow · 17/07/2021 09:06

@joangray38 yes litter box is outside. We live in a ground floor flat with no garden and no cat flap so I feel the chances of him just coming home are very slim. He usually gets in and out of the window. I'm getting very worried now.

Northernlurker · 17/07/2021 09:14

They do worry you. Ours got shut in neighbours shed overnight a few weeks ago. I was beside myself!

BlaiseAnais · 17/07/2021 09:25

It's horrible when they do it. Glad to here she's back.

Our cats sometimes don't come back at bedtime just because they don't feel like it. I don't tend to sleep well when they are out and wake up in the middle of the night to let them in.

One of mine stayed out the other night and I went to find him in the morning. I found him....he'd lost his collar, was covered in mud and had half of someone's garden embedded in his fur. He'd clearly had a whale of a time whilst I'd been in bed, barely sleeping, worrying where he was Hmm

Beamur · 17/07/2021 09:28

My usually stay at home cat has been out late and not coming home until mid morning this last few nights. I think the warm weather and light evenings tempt them out.

That's what they do! They wander in as if nothing has happened while you're having a nervous breakdown wondering where they've got trapped and if they're still alive
