So my dh came out with the stupidest phrase known to cat owners.

Toots is going through a fussy phase. Her previously eaten felix and whiskers is suddenly not good enough and she is now a gourmet girl

Dh the other week bought the wrong food and when pointed out, he said...”she will eat it if she’s hungry”

And thus stood the stand off.

Guess who won? Hint:- it wasn’t dh Grin

This week on shopping he bought the right food deemed worthy for her majesty

My old girl cat was sooooo fussy. I had to guess the flavour for the day. My new boy kitten was a gannet a first but now no. I have to buy so many different brands. Once I tried Applaws kitten food and he won't even kick it. In fairness it looked like shit in a bowl

We have a fussy little madam too and she will not eat if she's hungry. In fact if what we have isn't deemed suitable she'll often throw up excess stomach acid after a missed meal or two.

Pouches are recyclable- www.terracycle.com/en-GB/brigades

Mine has a motto:

"Six dinners Sid was an amateur".

I knew exactly what he'd said before I even opened the thread

Only if you have a drop off point nearby, which I dont

ketosavedmylife · 13/03/2021 20:03

@ColonelNobbyNobbs

They are fussy about dry food but they obviously like this one!
We have taken to putting our dried food bag in the tumble drier. Jumper has not figured out how to open the door...yet Grin.
GameofPhones · 13/03/2021 23:09

Have you tried putting a dish of the rejected food in the garden? IME for cats (and dogs) food they find for themselves is a different proposition altogether.

tinkerbellvspredator · 13/03/2021 23:25

My great aunt had a cat that was fed cooked heart when it was ill once as the vet suggested it. Of course the cat didn't want to go back to tins. Spent the rest of the cat's life cooking it a fresh heart every day...

OneMoreForExtra · 13/03/2021 23:33

they will not eat if they are hungry. They will just shout at him until he opens the right pouch from the right brand in the right flavour from the right shop

Laughing like a drain at this.

My little furry fucker only has dry. We arrived at this impasse after a long and gross experiment during which she only deigned to eat food that gave her sticky shits and refused everything else. After multiple tail washings, scratched arms and finally a Brazilian from the cat groomer, not to mention a fortune spent on filling the food caddy with sniffed and rejected food, we settled on me buying her eye-wateringly priced grain-free natural dry, and her eating it and not having an upset tummy.

The neighbours cat, who isn't nearly such a prima donna, inherited the vast library of food we'd built up and the pet shop is happy that someone's buying their gold-plated kibbles, so we're all good!

toolatetofixate · 13/03/2021 23:49

This is funny. But I've never known a cat (I've had many!) who won't eat something if it's all they've got on offer. If they don't eat it one day and it goes gross, it's binned and more of the same put out the next.

They will get hungry and they will eat. They are little creatures who need to eat- they won't starve themselves.

However (!) I don't buy anything again for my cat that she turns her nose up at and I don't bulk buy since they can get bored. But I won't bin a box of cat food just because a cat is being a wee bugger. Mine is also spoiled rotten with plenty of prawns Grin

TheLongRider · 14/03/2021 00:14

There should be a swap shop for cat food in every community. It would take unopened, in date cat food that our Lords and Masters have deemed unacceptable and redistribute it to everyone else. I'm sure we could match up all the food to the correct cat.

Saggingninja · 14/03/2021 02:45

My cats have a particular 'food routine'. They rush inside, dash to their food bowl clean and filled with their regular food. They then stop and look at me with their 'What exactly is this shit?' faces. They then turn back to their food, sigh in an 'Oh all right if there's nothing else' manner and eat grudgingly. Unless I've sprinkled their food with Cat Crack Dreamies.

dementedpixie · 14/03/2021 09:04

My cat helpfully came into the bedroom this morning to meow and scrabble at the carpet as we had the audacity to not top up the dry food before we went to bed so there wasn't even one morsel left to eat. Bad cat slaves!

cricketmum84 · 15/03/2021 18:01

Update for OP - the little bloody turncoats have gladly eaten the own brand food without any sign of a stand-off!! Wtf???

Fluffycloudland77 · 15/03/2021 19:13

I agree with @GameofPhones, if you put the food somewhere unusual they’ll eat it.

Although I ended up serving second breakfast in my bedroom as he refused to come down and sit on the tiled floor after he realised food was portable.
