Toots is going through a fussy phase. Her previously eaten felix and whiskers is suddenly not good enough and she is now a gourmet girl

Dh the other week bought the wrong food and when pointed out, he said...”she will eat it if she’s hungry”

And thus stood the stand off.

Guess who won? Hint:- it wasn’t dh Grin

This week on shopping he bought the right food deemed worthy for her majesty

@Allergictoironing

I just don't try anything else, since the first time I got Felix (standard) instead of the AGAIL. Never even tried with their (more expensive) dry food, just make sure I re-order when I still have at least 2-3 weeks left just in case Grin
We call it AGAIL and "not as good as it looks" Cats will not touch Not As Good As It Looks, which is saying something as it looks bloody awful and they eat fermented birds. They will not touch the fake-Sheba shreds, which is more expensive - it's only AGAIL. And, not from Tesco. Only from Amazon or Costco - we (and by we I mean DH) once marked the ones form Tesco and the bulk bought ones from Costco and made a note of which ones got left. This was a follow up to the "they'll eat when they are hungry" argument and indeed it's follow on "but how can they know where it comes from" argument. Which DH lost because the evidence (from the science, not the catful of distain) proved that DH was wrong. They do indeed know where it's from and they will not eat if they are hungry. They will just shout at him until he opens the right pouch from the right brand in the right flavour from the right shop.

After much trial and error (lots of error) we finally found a food our current foster would eat. She is underweight, there is a suspicion that her previous owner, who had to go into a care home because of dementia, didn’t always feed her regularly. Despite being skin and bone she still WILL NOT eat something she doesn’t like. Stupidly we stocked up on said preferred (expensive) food. Now she only eats Felix. Which we found out by running through our vast selection of foods again. Our previous foster was an adolescent male who would eat anything and lick the bowl.

Chemenger · 13/03/2021 10:02

Things were so desperate at one point when she seemed to be eating only a few morsels of dry food that I found myself wondering if a bowl of Dreamies might be the answer.

dementedpixie · 13/03/2021 10:15

One of mine wants to live on dreamies and dried treats (cosma snackies) rather than eat our bad wet food offerings

Toddlerteaplease · 13/03/2021 10:17

@swampytiggaa

My 3 only get dry food. I can’t contemplate the faffing if we went to wet 😱 vet seems happy with them...
Same here. Mine just won't eat wet. When the late Maia had to ha e soft food because of her jaw it was a nightmare. Neither of them would eat enough!
ColonelNobbyNobbs · 13/03/2021 10:17

I once saw “cats will seldom overeat” on the side of a cat food tin

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. My two savages broke into a big bag of dry food and had eaten 400g of it before I discovered it. That’s about a week’s worth of food. In a day!

And they still ate their meals Grin

ColonelNobbyNobbs · 13/03/2021 10:19

They are fussy about dry food but they obviously like this one!

So my dh came out with the stupidest phrase known to cat owners.
SimonJT · 13/03/2021 10:20

Does he want the cat to murder him in the night?

Hippopotas · 13/03/2021 10:26

@dementedpixie

My cats look at us like we've crapped in their bowl sometimes if we give the wrong food. Although they seem to change what they will eat so we have a range of wet foods for them to turn their nose up at.

Luckily they still eat the dry food we offer

One of the cats we had whilst I was growing up used to pretend to bury the food like it was shit if it did not meet his standards!
DobbyTheHouseElk · 13/03/2021 10:38

DCat loved Felix AGAIL until I bulk bought it, and since then he turns his nose up at it and goes to the neighbour for Sheba.

We now buy gourmet perle which is the favourite at the moment. I hope that AGAIL will become tolerable before the date runs out. I’ve got 80 pouches of it.

EsmeShelby · 13/03/2021 11:14

Mine started on Royal Canin but now is on Sheba fishy varieties. It's a third of the price.

dementedpixie · 13/03/2021 11:48

Sheba doesn't half stink
Mine sometimes like felix tasty shreds, gourmet perle beef and tomato and those new gourmet nature's creations in fish flavours
And will sometimes deign to eat those sheba or gourmet tiny pouches that cost so much more than big pouches

TheQueef · 13/03/2021 13:44

The beef Feix AGAIL smells just like a tin of stew steak.
I always feel like chips, bread and butter and a tin of Princess of they are having beef.

QueenStromba · 13/03/2021 15:14

I'm a terrible cat mummy - they've got to eat the whole tin before they get anything else. If the stuff in the bowl starts to get a bit dry then I'll sprinkle some treat dust on top. If they go off a flavour just after I've bought a load of it (how do they know?) then they get a tin a month for two years if that's what it takes.

Wauden · 13/03/2021 16:25

My kitten is about nine weeks old and so far she prefers wet to dry food. The dry is a more expensive brand and I want her to eat it to help her teeth.

dementedpixie · 13/03/2021 16:26

One of mine preferred wet to dry to start with. He eats both quite happily now

Wauden · 13/03/2021 16:27

Has anyone found any tins of kitten food? The pouches are not recyclable! Help!

dementedpixie · 13/03/2021 16:29

Pets at home might have tins or buy online at zooplus

110APiccadilly · 13/03/2021 16:32

My mum once said this. I kid you not, the cat went out, caught a mouse, brought it in and put it in his food bowl, as if to say, "I can do better than this myself!"

TheQueef · 13/03/2021 16:33

Amazon sell the applaws kitten. Tis just chicken afaik.

Soubriquet · 13/03/2021 16:34

Mine has dry food down in all.

Usually perfect fit but if something better is on offer we use that. This month it’s Krave

Then she gets one pouch of wet food in the evening

I think wet applaws is a complementary food rather than a complete one so might be best to check first OP
dementedpixie · 13/03/2021 16:40

Lily's kitchen comes in trays that can be recycled too

MillicentMargaretAmanda · 13/03/2021 16:57

I feel the pain. My little darling will eat Go Cat, but god forbid I attempt to give her dried of a better quality. I like her to have some wet food as well as she's an indoor cat so I unfortunately know from tray duties that she probably doesn't drinl enough. But when it comes to wet she's the fussiest little around and if she doesn't like it she's not eating it for love nor money. She also has an irritating tendency to only eat complimentary wet, turning her nose up at most complete. With multipacks she invariably refuses at least half the flavours. The food waste in the house has at least doubled since she moved in!!
