So my dh came out with the stupidest phrase known to cat owners.

Toots is going through a fussy phase. Her previously eaten felix and whiskers is suddenly not good enough and she is now a gourmet girl

Dh the other week bought the wrong food and when pointed out, he said...”she will eat it if she’s hungry”

And thus stood the stand off.

Guess who won? Hint:- it wasn’t dh Grin

This week on shopping he bought the right food deemed worthy for her majesty

GrinGrinlaughed out loud at that!

Soubriquet · 13/03/2021 07:45

Yeah I don’t know what he was thinking

He’s still adamant that she will eat if she’s hungry but I makes sure he had the correct food in just to save his eats from the meowing

Haha! We are about to go through the same thing. Silly DH bought the supermarket own brand for the terrible twosome yesterday instead of the gourmet perle and uttered the same thing.

Stand off commences at 9am.

Soubriquet · 13/03/2021 07:47

Good luck!

If yours are anything like mine, wear ear plugs or shut yourself in your room to stop the “follow me mum” look

OP posts:
OilBeefHooked · 13/03/2021 07:51

Mine's done that before.

He's also said "I fed him earlier, he can't be hungry again" which is total bollocks. If ever I've met a cat who can be hungry again, it's ours.

Walesrecommendations · 13/03/2021 07:58

Oh god my DP also tells me this when I'm complaining about our Dcats harassing me all day when they have full bowls. He thinks I'm perpetuating the problem by pandering to them but in reality I just can't bear tripping over them constantly, and looking at their plaintive little faces.

MooseBeTimeForSummer · 13/03/2021 07:59

I once saw “cats will seldom overeat” on the side of a cat food tin.

Oh how I laughed.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 13/03/2021 08:03

I once saw “cats will seldom overeat” on the side of a cat food tin.

Hmm that would explain why my cat was the size of two cats when I got her from the previous owner!

She actually stopped overeating when I got her onto prescription cat food for fat cats and after she lost the weight Lilys Kitchen. She seemed more satisfied with that.

swampytiggaa · 13/03/2021 08:09

I work as a picker for a supermarket home delivery service. I hate it when the cat food is out of stock and I have the option to sub it 😭😭 its the most traumatic part of my job!

I often reject the first few subs offered to try to get something that resembles the original... still expect it to be returned tho.

Do food is fine. I know they eat any old shit 😂😂

Soubriquet · 13/03/2021 08:12

I’m a picker too!!

I tend to try and go for the same brand but slightly different flavour as long as it the same ish iyswim?

So if someone wanted felix as good as it looks cod/tuna, I would give them felix as good as it looks salmon and whatever it is

I mean.... he is right! Any cat will eat if hungry enough. The real question is can put up with the pitiful meows and head buts first!
sashh · 13/03/2021 08:45

Well they will eat, but possibly not at your house.

Mine has food down all the time, gets bits of hoomin food most days but still visits the neighbours for food.

She's 10 but small so she has convinced at least one neighbour she is a stray kitten.

I had to buy a different food once which she rejected, until I put it out for the hedgehogs.

Soubriquet · 13/03/2021 09:06

I’m not worried about Toots finding another house

Whilst she is friendly with us most of the time she hates strangers and wouldn’t approach anyone in the street

My cat lost loads of weight when I stopped ‘pandering’ to her. Apparently cats are not the same as dogs. Who knew...! Grin

PS the pandering recommenced and I go through up to five bowls of inappropriate foods now trying to work out which one is the flavour for today. Sigh.

Limer · 13/03/2021 09:20

Catfood is the only thing I tick as "no substitutes" on my online shopping order!

Probably a good idea

I mean what if someone subbed it for Own brand

My cats look at us like we've crapped in their bowl sometimes if we give the wrong food. Although they seem to change what they will eat so we have a range of wet foods for them to turn their nose up at.

Luckily they still eat the dry food we offer

Mumdiva99 · 13/03/2021 09:29

So I'm still new to this....my 2 are 9 months. They have posh pouch morning, lovely dry food twice a day and cheaper pouch later. This was fine. Now one of mine doesn't like cheaper pouch. She would rather mither me for more fry food......I would rather she eats the cheaper wet..... (Yes I have given in at times).....how long do you leave the wet down for during this stand off game before you throw it away and replace it with posh wet.....
(Typically she would be given the cheap wet about 4pm.....if being fussy there will still be some there I'm the morning.) I do flex the amount of food in response to their hunger....so sometimes it's only 1/2 pouch of cheap food.

TheQueef · 13/03/2021 09:29

I'm currently feeding £28 Krave to my OC (other Cat from no18) because three months after refusing anything but Krave it's been usurped by kitecat cans. Angry
None of my three will even sniff the krave.

Allergictoironing · 13/03/2021 09:33

I just don't try anything else, since the first time I got Felix (standard) instead of the AGAIL. Never even tried with their (more expensive) dry food, just make sure I re-order when I still have at least 2-3 weeks left just in case Grin

I leave dry food down for my 2 and feed wet twice a day. They can be fussy with wet but stay true to the dry- I make up a mix of thrive and encore in a cereal pouring tub.

Well that doesn’t apply when it involves the huge pack of dreamies knocked from the “unreachable” shelf in the middle of the night. Woke to find a very barrel shaped mog, who sure enough then spewed everywhere about half hour later.

Ah, (nods head sagely) my DH has done this in the past, and my boy's response to this was to flounce and visit local homes with cat flaps and scoff there Blush.
swampytiggaa · 13/03/2021 09:48

My 3 only get dry food. I can’t contemplate the faffing if we went to wet 😱 vet seems happy with them...

AlwaysMoreCoffee · 13/03/2021 09:50

You made me laugh out loud too OP Grin

I’m also hugely amused that pickers who are also cat owners appreciate the gravity of substituting cat food GrinGrin
