She is so beautiful! What does a Charlie meltdown look like? My five year old son has just had a huge one over the wrong pizza sauce. Swapsies?

Justonedayatatime11 · 21/07/2020 22:31

Charlie meltdown earlier could only be described like a cat panic attack Sad. He saw her and seemed to start hyperventilating bless him. Despite his massive size, he really is a big wimp. It's obviously thrown him because he's come and curled up on my lap, and that's probably only the second time he's done that since we got him. Bit worried now that I've done completely the wrong thing

Matt and Socks hated each other when we had Socks about a year ago.
Now they get on pretty well and are united in hating the dog!

nettie434 · 22/07/2020 00:14

Fingers crossed that Namika and Charlie get used to each other Just. Namika looks amazing - as does Charlie.

Ollie's love of human food is very endearing. Hope the cakes tasted as good as they looked, QueenCT.

A horrid, horrid day.

I've kept quite about this but Capn V has been dirty relentlessly since I got him.

This week alone -

Monday - all floors scrubbed and bleached after a fouling.
Tuesday - bathroom floor bleached, ditto.
Today - fouling all over the flat; every room stinks with faeces trodden into the carpet. it's hot, I'm frail, and struggling to cope.

Sofa shitted as well.

4 months on and I need new carpets, the sofa has been replaced, and the floors are worn to nowt because of the constant cleaning. The flat smells awful.

I had hoped he might get better.

Fluffycloudland77 · 22/07/2020 19:20

Oh no. Maybe he hates his litter?.

Or does he not know what trays are for?.

nettie434 · 22/07/2020 19:31

Oh so sorry Supersimkin2. Do you think this has always been a problem and the rescue did not tell you? If it's that, rather than a health problem or problem with the litter tray, are there any resources designed for kittens who don't have a mum to show them what to do that might help?

Allergictoironing · 22/07/2020 19:32

Have you spoken to the rescue he came from about it Lana? They may have some idea whether this is a Capn V thing in general, or just since moving in with you. Also, may be worth asking the vet for a referral to a behaviorist (if you can afford that ofc).

Sympathies for poor frazzled back, hands, knees etc Flowers Wine

It's him. The rescue were shifty about it.

I'll have him vetted as the smell is past belief too - both pee and shit are the lingering stench variety.

Just finished today's bleaching and scrubbing - too tired and nauseous now for supper.

The awful thing is that I will have to talk to the GP - I have to keep my skin disinfected because of infections and I am on daily strong skin ABs to avoid catching anything on the skin.

Fluffycloudland77 · 22/07/2020 21:36

Have you got hibiscrub to wash with?.

Papergirl1968 · 22/07/2020 21:56

Oh god, Lana, you poor thing. I’m so sorry you’re going through this.

Defiantly41 · 22/07/2020 22:00

@supersimkin ThanksWineCake for you and captain V, fingers crossed there is an identifiable cause and cure. Thinking of you

QueenCT · 22/07/2020 22:07

I would definitely use an enzyme cleaner to help as bleach might encourage him to keep using the same place as well
The linked one can be sprayed and left, it even shifted ollies bright yellow chuck up (he had a joint supplement before he threw up...)

What about puppy pads? I mean not ideal but if he will target them, and at least you can protect a few areas

Supersimkin2 · 22/07/2020 23:40

All brilliant ideas, thanks, and will do. Queen I got your last recommendation and it was great.

You're right about the bleach, but it was the only thing I had in that was strong enough to kill everything without being dangerous to those massive orange paws.

The trouble is he shits and treads it all over the flat.

Yep, Hibiscrub for me. Off to bed for cuddle and snack. He hops up on the bed now when I wave his brush, which he's learned, so the situation is not hopeless. I cannot deny him the bed (have hastily changed sheets) as it's his security. He purrs and purrs.

QueenCT · 22/07/2020 23:51

Strange as cats are usually quite bothered about being clean. Vet probably a good idea and I would puppy pad the bed and maybe try one down somewhere else. Litter train from scratch

TheLongRider · 23/07/2020 01:38

Is Nurse Lee of any use to you? I'm so sorry you've had such a run of undeserved bad luck. It does sound as if a trip to the vet is needed for the Capn and a weekend away for you to recuperate.

I can't help with further suggestions for cleaning up. It's very difficult. Does he exhibit any warning signs that he's going to go on the bed? Usually mine get very restless. I have one cat who will wee on me with little notice when he's stressed.

Good luck, you'll make the right decision for both of you.

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/07/2020 09:46

You can get waterproof duvet protectors, you’d need two. The treading it around is so odd. He won’t be the first cat to do this though.

If you can run to a carpet cleaner your clean ups would be easier. Curry’s have got one for £85. Sometimes vax have an outlet sale online but never when you need it.

I think stool sample first to rule out infection/parasites. I can’t find any consistent advice online about adult cats & litter training though.

Are you still using catsan?. Is he using a tray or just doing it anywhere?.

Supersimkin2 · 23/07/2020 17:40

Catsan always, he doesn't mind it but I've tried all the others just in case.

He made it to the tray last night, well, mostly :) :) :)

He doesn't wash himself at all either - except showily patting one ear if he suspects ear drops are looming.

You know, I reckon he's never learned to groom or use the loo.

I'll vet him next week and start on Toilet Training.

Thanks all for bearing with us, I needed to vent as I was knackered, sweaty and weedy. Coming back to an Amber Heard situation wasn't great.

Just call me Johnny Depp Grin

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/07/2020 18:32

It’s entirely possible that he wasn’t taught and one of my males was happy with a paw lick wash.

I was looking for toilet training advice earlier and there’s not much about for adults.

I think they expect mum to train them but he seems to have missed that lesson.

Has he got loose stools?.

Supersimkin2 · 23/07/2020 19:09

No, luckily.

The little boy, I try not to let it show when I have to scrub and retch, I don't want to hurt his feelings. He has tried so terribly hard to fit in.

Supersimkin2 · 23/07/2020 19:10

And I think he loves it here. He is getting bossy :) and comes to sit with me without being asked :)

YesItsMeIDontCare · 23/07/2020 19:10

Has Jackson Galaxy got any advice on teaching adult cats to groom themselves and use a tray? He's pretty good isn't he?

Sending (((hugs)))

QueenCT · 23/07/2020 19:56

Ollie doesn't really groom to be honest. Apart from picking his feet with his teeth Grin
Maybe try a different tray or two, a covered/not covered, lower sided one..
