I’m going out of my mind with worry....

Think I just need a handhold tbh as I’m so distraught.

My cat went out last Monday evening and hasn’t been seen since (8 days today).

My neighbour passed away in July this year and I took in his cat. It was a very slow process getting him to accept that this was now his home but in the past few weeks he seemed really happy and settled. He’s never gone off like this before.

I’m in a terrible state, can’t stop crying. I don’t know what else I can do to try and find him...I’ve put loads of posters up in the area, leaflets through doors, posted on FB and missing pets sites and knocked on doors. I’ve put worn clothes on the washing line, put his blanket outside and the contents of the Hoover.

It’s the not knowing where he is that’s so upsetting for me, especially as the nights are so cold now.

He is chipped and neutered. Any ideas what else I could do to try and find him?

Nope, I didn’t get any response from posters. I felt like you do now, that something awful must have happened. But a friend said he couldn’t have just disappeared into thin air and that was true. He will be somewhere. Don’t give up. Keep walking and looking. The best of luck

@BovaryX
You dont know how comforting your words are to me right now. You're giving me hope in such a dark time. I suffered a miscarriage last year at 19 weeks gestation but oddly enough this feels even harder. I had tests and a reason to find out why it happened but this is just the utter unknown. Really i cant thank you enough for telling me your story 💐

Chopsuey,
I am so sorry to hear about your miscarriage, you are obviously going through a really tough time and losing your cat must be very hard when you are in a fragile state. I am pleased I have helped in anyway. He is somewhere. When mine was missing, that really helped calm me. He hasn’t vanished off the Earth. Don’t give up. He could be trapped somewhere. I would definitely contact vets and email them his picture and description. The very best of luck, I really hope you find him

Chopsuey, take care of yourself and the very best of luck. I really hope you find him and I am sorry you have been through such a difficult time.

Chopsuey1 · 07/12/2019 17:53

Thank you. Ive spoken to vets and they have his description down. Spoken to council too. Hes chipped anyway with my contact number on it. You're right, he cant have just vanished. Even sadly, if he has deceased, i cant find his body either. Im just praying my hardest, and gona keep searching everyday. I just need to keep checking on here for some support.

Thanks BovaryX. Im trying but its hard. You know, you've been there x

I completely understand how you are feeling, I created this post when I was going through exactly the same thing. Not many people understand how it affects you when your much loved pet goes missing. I was in a terrible state, couldn’t eat, sleep, or concentrate on anything and I was continually sobbing. Every waking moment was consumed by thoughts of where he was and what had happened to him. Like you say, everyone seemed to move on and just accept that he wasn’t coming back, but I couldn’t. My life was put on hold for the whole time he was missing.

My Bonnie was found after 22 days, in my neighbour’s greenhouse (literally four houses away). He had got in through an open fanlight in the top and it shut behind him, trapping him inside. We think he survived by licking the condensation from the glass.

My advice to you is please don’t give up hope. I know it’s easier said than done, especially as each day goes by with no news.

Please, please, go back to your immediate neighbours (including those behind you if you have any) and ask if you can go and look with them in their garages, sheds and greenhouses. My neighbour assures me that she looked in the greenhouse the day he went missing, but I think he was hiding at the back and she didn’t see him. They don’t always run straight out either, as you would expect them to. Like you said, it was 1st December when many people would have had their garages/sheds open to get their Xmas decorations out.
Statistics show that most cats are found within a few houses from home, certainly true in my case. I know it’s difficult keep asking neighbours to recheck, but don’t feel embarrassed, it could save your cat’s life if he’s shut in somewhere.
How old is your cat? Is he chipped and neutered? Please feel free to message me if you would like a chat.
