I’m going out of my mind with worry....

Think I just need a handhold tbh as I’m so distraught.

My cat went out last Monday evening and hasn’t been seen since (8 days today).

My neighbour passed away in July this year and I took in his cat. It was a very slow process getting him to accept that this was now his home but in the past few weeks he seemed really happy and settled. He’s never gone off like this before.

I’m in a terrible state, can’t stop crying. I don’t know what else I can do to try and find him...I’ve put loads of posters up in the area, leaflets through doors, posted on FB and missing pets sites and knocked on doors. I’ve put worn clothes on the washing line, put his blanket outside and the contents of the Hoover.

It’s the not knowing where he is that’s so upsetting for me, especially as the nights are so cold now.

He is chipped and neutered. Any ideas what else I could do to try and find him?

Amazing news! Really pleased for you. Both of my cats have pulled stunts like this in the past and l know how distressing it is

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 03/12/2019 10:12

Great news OP. Very pleased you're reunited.

BovaryX · 03/12/2019 10:35

Hey that’s fantastic news! You must be so pleased to get him back? How did you find him? Did your neighbor find him in the shed or did he get out? This just goes to show never give up!Xmas Smile

thecatneuterer · 03/12/2019 11:00

Good heavens! I guess he survived by licking condensation off the glass. Unless there was some water in there? Poor boy but wonderful that he's been found.

SleepWarrior · 03/12/2019 14:42

Oh my goodness, what a miracle, and what a relief for you!

One of my childhood cats repeatedly got trapped in the same neighbour's greenhouse (I think the roof had a panel missing that made it easy to get in and impossible to get out). If did get embarrassing asking if they could check yet again.

If she goes missing again, make this the first place you look, and it might be also good to ask your neighbour if there's a gap, and if you could board it up for her/she could sort it.

My neighbour went into the garden to hang some washing out and heard him crying and scratching at the window of the greenhouse. She said she’s been in the garden many times over the past few weeks but not heard him. There was a little fanlight window open, Bonnie got in through that and then it shut behind him, trapping him inside. I’m guessing he licked water from the inside of the glass and that’s what kept him alive for 22 days. He was very lucky to survive that long and I’m so lucky to have him home ❤️

Oh this gives me hope. My cats been missing for 2 days now and no sign of him. To say im devestated is an understatement. Hope he comes back like your one did x

Toddlerteaplease · 03/12/2019 18:43

That's wonderful news!

Yurtle · 03/12/2019 18:48

Oh this is a very happy making update. How lovely to have him back Flowers

Fluffycloudland77 · 03/12/2019 20:07

@Chopsuey1 What have you tried so far? I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you.

thecatneuterer · 03/12/2019 20:10

Not relevant I know - but who hangs out washing in the middle of winter!

chocolatespiders · 03/12/2019 20:15

Over the moon for you! You must feel so happy. Was he hungry?

Ps I hang washing out on sunny winter days!

Chopsuey1 · 03/12/2019 20:15

@fluffycloudland77
Ive done it all, local FB sites, asked my local neighbours and then posted out to extended houses on estate to check their gardens. Ive put his blanket out in the garden. Gone for walks to find him with cat treats and been calling his name. Called local vets. He is microchipped.Dont know what else is left?

Fluffycloudland77 · 03/12/2019 21:31

Have you tried going out at night with a torch & emptying the vacuum cleaner bag into the garden? @Chopsuey1

Keep going.

Chopsuey1 · 03/12/2019 21:55

@fluffycloud77
Just done that tonight with the husband. Did every walkway possible. Luckily no major roads close to where we live.
I will keep going, thanks. I don't think i can stop searching x

HuggedTheRedwoods · 03/12/2019 22:38

What a great update, can hear the relief in your words. Lucky Bonnie, thats a long time to be trapped, especially in the cold weather. Give him a head ruffle from us all.

Fingers now crossed for Chopsuey to have some Bonnie luck too.

I am so happy for you. Have been in the same situation, it's grim. How great to have him back!

Myshitisreal · 04/12/2019 00:47

Ohmygosh Ohmygosh Ohmygosh 😺 😻❤️ this is amazing news so happy for you. Would love to see a pic when she's feline better

LadyChatterleysHoover · 04/12/2019 00:51

Delighted to see there's a happy ending. Bonnie was lucky to be taken in by you and lucky to survive the greenhouse. He's down one of his nine lives but he's definitely a survivor Grin

BovaryX · 04/12/2019 06:51

That is such fantastic news! How is he doing? Wow, great that the neighbor heard him. When mine went missing for three weeks he wasn’t shut in anywhere, just completely lost, but he was as thin as a pencil when I found him

Toddlerteaplease · 04/12/2019 10:37

I love that 'Bonnie' is a boy!

BabbleBee · 04/12/2019 13:34

Ah that’s amazing news, so pleased for you.

Just for future reference if anyone is in the same position looking for a cat, ask neighbours to leave the shed / outhouse door open for a short while after they’ve looked. A frightened cat won’t necessarily show itself or bolt, but will get out once humans are out of the way.
