I’m going out of my mind with worry....

Think I just need a handhold tbh as I’m so distraught.

My cat went out last Monday evening and hasn’t been seen since (8 days today).

My neighbour passed away in July this year and I took in his cat. It was a very slow process getting him to accept that this was now his home but in the past few weeks he seemed really happy and settled. He’s never gone off like this before.

I’m in a terrible state, can’t stop crying. I don’t know what else I can do to try and find him...I’ve put loads of posters up in the area, leaflets through doors, posted on FB and missing pets sites and knocked on doors. I’ve put worn clothes on the washing line, put his blanket outside and the contents of the Hoover.

It’s the not knowing where he is that’s so upsetting for me, especially as the nights are so cold now.

He is chipped and neutered. Any ideas what else I could do to try and find him?

@Toddlerteaplease
I know, it is a bit confusing! He was my neighbour’s cat (sadly passed away in July), he got him from a rescue and was told it was a girl, hence the name Bonnie. Even when he found out it was actually a boy, he still referred to him as “she”. I don’t think Bonnie ie too affected by the gender change!

Maybe he identifies as female anyway!

cushioncovers · 04/12/2019 17:19

Absolutely amazing. He/she is a hardy little character surviving for that amount of time.

No @ilovemypantry

Im going out of my mind. Just feel so unbelievably sad. My family just dont get it, everyone seems to have moved on. Today we are going to put posters up. Ive already done leaflets and posted on FB groups. Not heard anything from vets, council or animal search.

He went missing last Sunday afternoon. Just such an odd time to go missing. We went out to the cinema and were back by 6.30pm. He was around before we left and we had no concerns that he was unwell etc. We dont live by any mainroads so unlikely hes been hit. Hes so timid with noise and strangers that just cant work out what could have happened. He does hunt for mice etc but typically at night.

He was my bestfriend. He would sit on my lap every evening when kids went to bed. He would even wait outside the toilet for me! We got him when i was struggling to conceive 7 years ago. He filled that void with happiness in that lonely time.

Now i feel such loneliness. Sorry to go on and on. I just need somewhere to chat where people can understand. If he has passed, i need to at least find his body for closure.

Thanks for thinking of me @ilovemypantry . Just to know i have that support really does help.

Fluffycloudland77 · 07/12/2019 09:39

Was it dry enough to mow the lawn where you are?. If someone’s just done their last cut he could well be in a shed.

A lot of people don’t understand how much you can love a cat.

cushioncovers · 07/12/2019 09:43

Chop so sorry you're going through this. It's every cat owners worst nightmare. Thinking of you and hoping your pusscat finds his way home soon. Thanks

Chopsuey1 · 07/12/2019 09:47

@fluffycloudland77

Yes it was dry that day but cold. Think there was frost. But incidentally it was 1st Dec the day he went missing so people would have been putting xmas decorations on houses. Im really holding out that hes accidentally gone into a garage. But then ive walked everywhere near the house and not heard him.

Thanks for your reply. Im such a catlover. Probably have an unhealthy love for cats. So this is just killing me.

Chopsuey1 · 07/12/2019 09:54

Thanks @cushioncovers
It is so hard. My heart is aching for him. Ive had many cats in my life but all died through illness or old age. The grief was very different. This is ten times harder as i didnt get to say goodbye.

Fluffycloudland77 · 07/12/2019 10:09

Ask your neighbours 3 or 4 houses either side if you can check their garages, take a torch so if he’s scared and hiding you’ll catch his eyes in the torch.

cushioncovers · 07/12/2019 10:28

Have you tried going out in the early hours when it's quiet and calling for him?

Chopsuey1 · 07/12/2019 11:18

Husband has gone out before sunrise couple of times. Nothing. Also asked all neighbours to search their garages twice. Just dont know what else to do. I cant stop searching

Thanks for the suggestions x

BovaryX · 07/12/2019 14:13

Chopsuey,
Speaking from experience, you need to be really proactive. Don’t rely on posters, get outside, knock on doors, visit neighbors, check everywhere. Ring all your local vets, is he microchipped? Send his picture to vets. The most important thing is to physically search. He could be near but trapped or lost. I found mine after three weeks. Don’t stop looking

Chopsuey1 · 07/12/2019 15:16

@BovaryX
Did you find him/her somewhere you had already looked before? I feel like I've looked everywhere. Ive got bruises on my legs from all the climbing. Ive been into fields, shrubs etc but no luck.
Today i knocked on people's doors. People have been so lovely and have said they have looked for me. Only a few were less helpful.

BovaryX · 07/12/2019 15:49

Chopsuey,
Mine had got into a park and got disoriented and then completely lost. I had been searching all over the area for three weeks and finally found him. I know it’s incredibly distressing but don’t give up. If you’re not near busy roads, he’s unlikely to be run over. If it’s cold, he could have gone inside somewhere and then got trapped. Like the OP. Did he have favorite places? Could he have got inside a shed, a greenhouse etc? I know it’s tough, but do try your neighbors. The best of luck finding him. Call the vets with his details

Chopsuey1 · 07/12/2019 16:16

@BovaryX
Did you get any response from flyers or posters? Ive not had anything. And people that i have spoken to, have all said they have been looking for me. I just cant help but feel that if there have been no sightings then its getting extremely unlikely he's alive 😔
