My cat is currently 14 and I thought he would live to around 20 but apparently this is quite rare. My friend says cats on average live to about 16 which means I got less than 2 years with him ☹️ has anyone had cats living past 16? Feeling sad

@Fluffycloudland77
I had serious words with mine on the way home from rescue. I explained how they could have the run of the house (and outside later) and a butler service. Food on demand. Cuddles and laps and a human to headbutt at will. Comfy cat beds and a human to keep them warm on the super king cat bed!
But they had to live to at LEAST 20.
Old girl made 19. But she was a rescue who had at least one litter of kittens by 6 months old. Sad

DHs friends cat lives to 27. He bloody looked it too! He was a gorgeous scraggy old man 😍

Beaverhausen · 09/12/2018 21:52

My squiby was 19.

WatchingTheWheels85 · 09/12/2018 21:56

20, he was the most gentle ginger tom (named my first child after him). He was our cats only kitten born when I was 7 he died curled up asleep in his basket.

Fluffycloudland77 · 09/12/2018 21:56

Wolfie I see no downside to our plans.

ExcitedForChristmas18 · 09/12/2018 21:57

My grandfather's cat is 22!

Wolfiefan · 09/12/2018 22:02

Fluffy there is none.
Wishing us all many happy years with our kitty overlords. Grin

StartingGrid · 09/12/2018 22:05

Mines currently 20 and still well with all his faculties... I hope he makes a very old age as long as he is comfortable

mineofuselessinformation · 09/12/2018 22:06

My dMOG was 21 ((or there-ish) when I had him PTS recently. He came to me as a rescue cat at around 12/13 years old, and I only expected I have him for a few years. I was surprised at how long he went on, relatively happily, until it was time for his end.
Here's him in his first photo with me, and his last.
You never know how long they can go on for, until it is time for the end.

4 years ago we adopted a rescue, vet thinks she's about 20. She has a tumour on her back, and we have taken her to be pts 3 times now, but each time vet says she can go home as seems happy enough. She looks like a skeletal camel. Love her to bits though.

This thread has made me so happy, my cat is only 4 months and I love him so so much already. He is a massive part of our family and will be lovely to watch him grow up with the DC

I lost my cat in September at 18.

DobbinsVeil · 09/12/2018 22:19

My first cat lived to be 21.

Currently have a 16 year old but I don't think we'll have her much longer.

EmmaC78 · 09/12/2018 22:20

Don'tstep - is that a Birman? I am cuddling my 18 year old Birman as I type Smile

yiskasha · 09/12/2018 22:21

My grandad's cat was 26 when he died - my grandad also owned his mum who lived until she was around 21 years old. Good genes!

Redtartanshoes · 09/12/2018 22:22
  1. Sally. She was as a legend. Mean as anything, would have food off your fork but the best cat ever
toothfairy73 · 09/12/2018 22:25

Mine lived to 22

FunnysInLaJardin · 09/12/2018 22:26

our oldest cat was 21. Our cat now is 12 and I hope she has another 10 years in her

fedupandlookingforchange · 09/12/2018 22:27

One at 15 he was poisoned found him too late to save him. Another made it to 20 he had dementia, he caught everything going but survived Another got run over just before he was one.

Thecatisboss · 09/12/2018 22:29

Dcat is 17 now (& happily laying against my legs in bed) she has kidney failure and is on pills daily but been that way for the last 5 years.

She's a wonderful cat who we all love dearly - DD who's 8 tells us she's only a teenager so nothing can happen to the cat yet.

Thecatisboss · 09/12/2018 22:32

Cat loves the heated blanket (even when not swtiched on)

My childhood cats lived to be 10 & 18. Ours have lived to 12 (brain tumour), 1.5 (possibly poisoning) & current cat is 10. I'm dreading the day...

Toddlerteaplease · 09/12/2018 22:38

Childhood cats lived to 18, 12, 2 and an unknown age. Fatty was 8.

Sakura7 · 09/12/2018 22:46

Mine is 17 and going strong. Early stage kidney failure but it's being managed well and I'm hoping we'll get another few years. Of course you never know though. It is sad knowing her time is limited but we just try to enjoy having her in the here and now.
