He’s only a baby, he’s barely off his mums teat.

If he doesn’t know how to use a litter tray has anyone thought it’s because mum hasn’t taught him because she doesn’t use one ie mum isn’t going to be spayed and will be bred again soon? So she’s going outside and will be in heat again soon now the kittens have been homed.

user1492621884 · 13/05/2018 11:28

It's really frustrating.

As I said before the owners said he was partly litter trained and I'm quite cross that he was rehomed without being taught by his mummy.

Poor little mite. I'll just keep going I suppose keep trying different things.

The bit I hate most is him being shut away and he still doesn't use the tray 😞 as soon as he's trained he can sleep anywhere he likes!

Fluffy I never thought of that. This is her first litter they said but I suppose you can't trust what people say can you?

Crossing my fingers that he'll like the wood chip.

user1492621884 · 13/05/2018 11:35

Everything is crossed here screaming! He's just woke up came strolling out like he owns the place. Well he does obviously 😂

Exactly, it’s not like mum can confirm or deny her maternity expierience.

He’s very young and obviously a bit clueless.

user1492621884 · 13/05/2018 11:49

He won't be like this for ever though will he?
Obviously if I have to follow him round for the next 4 months then I will but I'd rather not!

No, one day he’ll think that rectangular tray with gritty stuff is the best place to wee in.

At the moment he’s just too young. Our breeder didn’t let them go till 12 weeks.

user1492621884 · 13/05/2018 12:53

Sorry to keep updating on my kittens toilet habits but he just took himself in the bathroom where his other tray is and weed on the floor and pooed too 🙈🙈

Keep going, he’ll get it eventually.

In human years he’s around 2, not many of us knew how to use a loo at that age.

WinkyisbackontheButterBeer · 13/05/2018 13:04

Are you putting the poo into the tray when he’s pood on the floor?
Also using some of the litter to soak up accidents and putting that in might help.

Maybe having his scent already in there and will encourage him to keep going there.

user1492621884 · 13/05/2018 13:12

Hope so fluffy!
Winky yeah poop is put in the tray straight away. I pop him in but he doesn't cover it up. He sniffs it but don't do anything about it!

What age should they actually leave their mums? Did we get him too soon do you think?

OP posts:
Fluffycloudland77 · 13/05/2018 13:16

Rescues rehome from 8 weeks, that’s if he is the age the breeder said he was.

The vet will age him for you.

Tansytaylor · 13/05/2018 13:52

At 8 weeks then he'd be fine to go to his home from a point of being litter trained by his mum. There's a chance that she didn't do this for whatever reason.

Maybe pop the bed away for now. One less place for him to soil at the moment

Fluffycloudland77 · 13/05/2018 13:57

That and rescues are literally inundated with kittens to re-home and they need them gone.

You have to ask why this kittens not been taught by mum.

Mum kicks them out at 16 weeks, our cats mum was thoroughly fed up of her kittens when we picked ours up at 17 weeks. I always imagine her thinking can’t you take both?.

Fluffycloudland77 · 13/05/2018 16:53

How is he?

user1492621884 · 13/05/2018 17:05

Been asleep with my husband most of the afternoon!!

No poo or wee since earlier on. I've got some soil from my parents garden to try in the tray as well. I'll try anything!

Do you think he'll be better in the kitchen at night as I can put litter tray at one end and food at another?

OP posts:
Fluffycloudland77 · 13/05/2018 18:49

Yes, try it. No one wants to eat near their own waste.

user1492621884 · 13/05/2018 19:11

Fluffy I thought as it was a smaller space he'd feel more safe in the bathroom. I tried to put the food at one end and tray at another but it's hard with the toilet in the way Sad

OP posts:
Fluffycloudland77 · 13/05/2018 19:16

It’s alright just try him in the kitchen tonight.

Have you got any fleeces or old towels for him to sleep in.

user1492621884 · 13/05/2018 19:27

He has a big fleece we brought him I'll put that in there with him. And his cat music.

OP posts:
ScreamingValenta · 13/05/2018 19:29

Ooh, what's his cat music?

Fluffycloudland77 · 13/05/2018 19:29

I left mine in the kitchen on his first night and he cried all night looking for his mum and sibling. I was still in the “he’s not allowed up stairs and he’s not allowed on our bed” frame of mind.

He rules the house now (still sleeps downstairs though because he gets up at 4.30am and hunts our hands under the duvet)
