Morning! Thank you for all your replies!

Puppy pad under the trays already.
Got up and he's weed in his bed 😣
He had a run round looked like he wanted to squat so put in the tray. He jumped out. Put in the tray. He jumped out. In the tray. He jumped then ran and pooed on the floor. I got him put in litter tray and a bit of poo (sorry tmi Blush) went in litter tray.
He jumped out and started scratching the floor like he was trying to cover the poo up on the floor. I put him in tray again and done the motion with his paws as I've put the poo in the tray and he jumped out!

You can use compost for litter if need be, maybe the litters too rough for little paws such as his? I’m wondering if the kittens younger than 9 weeks and mums been disposing of his poos for him.

sashh · 12/05/2018 08:41

Sounds like there is something about the tray or the litter he doesn't like, maybe try a different one?

user1492621884 · 12/05/2018 08:44

The poo literally smells so bad Envy (not jealous lol)

He's done a wee in the tray yesterday morning so 🤷‍♀️

He's not drinking either 😣

They said he was born on 10th March so makes him 9 weeks today.

I've got two different trays and kitten litter in both.

We have had normal cat litter in them and silica one now we have kitten litter.

😂 Sorry the in/out of the tray fiasco sounds funny! So stubborn.

Is it fine grain litter?

user1492621884 · 12/05/2018 08:48

He literally is the cutest thing ever though we all love him to pieces 💙

He licks my face and hands bless him!

Do you think it's worth mentioning to the vets?

POP to be fair it is pretty funny 😂

It's like he's running rings around us then poos and then looks as if to say well you've gotta clean it up now haha!

Sorry xpost - is that the type you don’t need to scoop out when they wee?

A long shot here.. Try putting litter on a flat surface. A rubber mat or mattress protector. It might be that he doesn’t like to climb in or struggles, or something has put him off the tray when he weed in it.

When my cat was spayed, she went in the tray once but jumped out mid wee, after that she would try to go in and then get spooked and wee next to it.

Vet thought she had cystitis (iirc) and as it hurt to wee, she associated the pain with the litter (we used catsan non clumping at the time, quite big grains). We changed the litter to the fine clumping one and she was fine after that.

POPholditdown · 12/05/2018 09:02

xpost again! That should be soft enough for him, so it’ll either be the tray or (hopefully not) a health reason.

Definitely mention it to the vet.

He sounds like such a cheeky little boy.

sashh · 12/05/2018 09:13

Ok different litter tried.

How do you feel about stimulating him to go? He is quite young so maybe mum has been still helping.

Basically hold kitten in one hand and small circular motions with tissue / toilet roll in the other on the cat's bits.

Keep going while he is pooing / peeing.

user1492621884 · 12/05/2018 09:15

Right I've just spoken to the vet.
She said try just newspaper in the tray with a sprinkle of litter in.

If not soil but only as a last resort.

She said he just sounds lazy, I was worried in case he has a health problem bless him!

Do you think some feliway would help?

EachandEveryone · 12/05/2018 09:29

Oh, i dont think he sounds lazy what a thing to say! Hes so tiny it has to be his age. Mine liked wood pellets when they were youbf. Feliway has never done anything for mine but lots of people like it.

ScreamingValenta · 12/05/2018 09:31

Feliway will relax him, so worth a try in case he is weeing through stress/excitement at his new home.

My first cat kept weeing/pooing in a corner of the living room, so I eventually just put a tray in the spot she seemed to like. Once she was using it, I gradually moved it out of the living room.

What size of tray are you using? In my experience, they tend to prefer larger trays - if you're using a kitten-sized one, don't take it away, but add a full-sized one and put it as near as possible to the spot he keeps using.

When you're cleaning wee up, rub a bit on the side of the tray - this will help him get the message that the tray is the place to go.

user1492621884 · 12/05/2018 09:46

The tray is in the corner where he poos now, I've just moved it to there. The other one is in the bathroom where he sleeps at night.

To be fair they are quite large for kitten trays.

Lots of great advice but I wanted to add that it sends unusual that he has had a wee in his bed. Cats are usually instinctively very clean. I'd get his tested for a uti at the vets....

When our kitten was tiny we had a tray in several rooms as he would go elsewhere if he had to go far to find a tray.

The scratching suggests he does instinctively know what to do as he was trying to cover up his toilet smells.

ScreamingValenta · 12/05/2018 09:56

Re. a UTI - does he seem to be cleaning his penis excessively? That's often a sign of a UTI, and the tip of the penis might be red rather than pink (hard to spot unless he's in the act of grooming it).

user1492621884 · 12/05/2018 10:04

He doesn't sleep in his bed-everywhere but his bed. Sleeps behind the toilet at night time 🙄🙄🙄

No doesn't seem to be cleaning excessively not that I've noticed? He washes himself before he goes to sleep I've noticed.

Feliway should help, yes. And Louie is a cutie!

user1492621884 · 12/05/2018 10:18

He's crashed out now on the sofa bless him.

OP posts:
Tansytaylor · 12/05/2018 10:36

Well, you can't have him using your house as a giant litter tray so I'd be ruling out any health issues. At this age he should have no problem at all in using a litter tray, it isn't an age thing

Keep the roaming area extremely small. Make sure you're using proper enzyme busting cleaner to remove the smell of his wee and poo because otherwise he will keep doing it as unfortunately he thinks your sofa is his toilet right now

Don't let him have free run. I know it sounds mean but you need to really restrict him until he gets the idea,

user1492621884 · 12/05/2018 10:47

Tansy so he should pretty much stay in the bathroom all day and night everyday until he knows to use it?

OP posts:
Tansytaylor · 12/05/2018 10:49

No as a bathroom is too small and he'd be alone unless you were going to sit in there with him.

I don't know the lay out of your house though so can't advise on that
