How much does Fatcat weigh? 3.6kg is v petite. Is that about the same as PB?

The vet wants Mr C to come in to discuss pain relief which is good news but I am not doing it this week. Claws are enough. And I want to read the internet a bit more first.

Cozie have you seen this for PBoy, about cats going to vets:

^Gabapentin is a human drug that is also used in the veterinary field to treat pain or to control seizures. In cats, it is highly effective in reducing fear and anxiety!

Three hours before a vet visit, the owner gives the medication at home. Gabapentin comes in a pre-loaded syringe in liquid form. The sedative effect lasts for about 12 hours. We recently examined and treated a feral cat who had been pre-medicated with this drug and she was an absolute breeze to handle. Gabapentin does not cause full sedation, but causes a cat to be a little slow. Dr. Danna said the best way to describe the effects is that it makes the patient indifferent. The cat is not fearful, aggressive, anxious or even happy. They just don’t care. Vet visits are pleasant again.

For safety, owners should know that a cat treated with gabapentin may be woozy or uncoordinated until the medication wears off. Your cat should be confined away from stairs, high cat trees or other fall hazards until he is back to normal.

The cost for gabapentin is twelve dollars per dose.^

Interesting. Ta.

Remember - PBoy is nearly 4 years old, though. And he's a Siamese which makes him naturally lean and leggy.

How old is Ginge? Wink

I'm not sure that it is official RVS terminology, Fluffy - but the locum sounds interesting. Smile

How much does Fatcat weigh?

If that’s my FatCat, he is 7.5kg. His “fighting weight” is 6kg so he’s not a small cat though!

LanaorAna2 · 13/02/2018 16:51

A full master cat. One has to adjust for that heavenly tail Grin

Ollivander84 · 13/02/2018 17:28

Fluffy Grin he was slightly bonkers

Um, piriton can be crushed thankfully! It'll be going in his food

Ollie was about 4kg so he's dropped some. Ginge is probably the same weight Grin but given nobody can touch her, it's a guessing game as to what is fluff and what is... fat

Ollivander84 · 13/02/2018 17:30

The food conversation was a bit..
"What does he eat"
"Um, natures menu, some raw, good stuff"
"Meat. Good for cats. And fish"
"Yes, he eats fish sometimes"
"Very good. No shite. But your cat is... freak? Weird? Not sure of the English word"

Even Ollie was too busy being astounded to screech the place down

LanaorAna2 · 13/02/2018 18:04

He passed comment on Olli's sweet nature?

Ollivander84 · 13/02/2018 18:18

He said he was a very tolerant and relaxed cat. I think they use that for anything that doesn't actively try to kill them though as he was definitely growling/hissing/spitting

LanaorAna2 · 13/02/2018 18:29

Sounds like One of Us, even tho he is a bit peculiar. Nice thing to say.

A bit like our vets' huge, tattooed, pierced and muscly male nurse, who, blood pouring, staggered in with thrashing and raging Mr C saying weakly 'wot a lovely cat'.

cozietoesie · 13/02/2018 18:48

Mouse count is currently 3. Smile

When I took PBoy to the vet, he behaved impeccably. There was a student vet in attendance who was shrivelled against the wall. I guess the trickle of blood down my face didn't reassure her. (I didn't notice it until I returned home. Grin)

One of my DSis's cats was renowned for his strong reactions when irritated - one of the nephews still has scars years later from touching his tummy, most people wouldn't touch him at all as you never knew how he would react.

Her vet used to KISS him, on the nose, and say what a lovely boy he was (the cat, not the nephew!). I think the vet may be slightly insane, either that or has a death wish.

LanaorAna2 · 13/02/2018 21:34

Now that's the Dunkirk spirit in action Cozie Grin. It didn't scar did it?

I know I keep saying it, but Fucidin or at a pinch acne cream stops big slash wounds going gammy. Suggest tell the doc you are 'a' keen gardener' to avoid pesky SS, I should know.

I've just come back from volunteering at the local arts centre with two cats. Yes, people do complain. Luckily the staff stick loyally to the old favourite 'only a kitten, he's playing' although the duty manager let slip there has been a solicitor's letter since Xmas. The tiny tabby, a metre-long barrel of Persian, is 7.

Initially, they were both locked in the kitchen 'but that didn't work'. Grin

Allergic Grin I cherish my scars, the wrist ones are a living reminder of Big Red, our family cat who lived till he was 21.

Ollivander84 · 13/02/2018 21:43

Just got home to find O not in his bed Shock
He was asleep on the sofa on the fluffy black cushion. Swear he has a death wish

LanaorAna2 · 13/02/2018 21:46

VT? One new Specsavers ad ready for Easter...

cozietoesie · 13/02/2018 22:06

He's featherdown light when he jumps onto the bed to ask for a Dreamie. I don't usually realise he's jumped up half the time - then he opens his mouth. Gawd...........Grin

Greetings to all for tomorrow.

One toy mouse found for PB........
LanaorAna2 · 13/02/2018 22:38

Jumps onto the bed!! Asks for a dreamie!!! he has come such a long way, it's only barely over 6 months, not 7 yet. You must be so pleased with him and yourself C.

One of these days just turn the light out and shut your eyes. PB prob wants a good look at you. Mr C used to examine me forensically while I pretended to/did sleep. He still does, as it happens, then lets out a satisfied snuff and does grunty purring when he dozes off.

cozietoesie · 13/02/2018 22:42

He's certainly very food/treat orientated. I'm not sure that I wouldn't prefer a cuddle, though.

LanaorAna2 · 13/02/2018 22:50

That'll be the next step - he's on the right path, isn't he. I would be desperate by now tho'. Did Seniorboy ever let you do his tummy?

Ollivander84 · 13/02/2018 22:54

O also does the forensic exam. But usually involves sniffing me and happy purring

LanaorAna2 · 13/02/2018 23:07

If I breathe on Mr C he sneezes pointedly. I asked the dentist to be 'honest about halitosis' but he said it was ok. Humiliated by the cat, again.
